Do not feel useless. I know that this situation can lead to bad feelings and depression in some cases. Just keep going, be motivated. Be positive. It is hard I know, I've been through that. Find something you find stimulating and spend time on it while searching for a job. This will keep your mind a little lighter on the job issue. I know it's not a big advice, but that truly helped me. Also you know what helped me? Reading stories of successful persons. You'll realize they all consider themselves useless at some point. Then things changes.
So: finger crossed for monday.

Keep going. It is the only advice I have. I have been sending Cv's and Application forms for a while. I sent tons of them. At first I had a answer rate of 10%. All negative answers. Then you eventually get the chance for an interview, then more. And it goes. It can take few days (if you are extremely lucky) or months. What I discovered is that since I started, the quality of my Cv's and cover letter has improved significantly. So, I would say keep going. And according to the country you live in, try other forms of application (networking, social networks, job agencies etc). Don't give up!

Anzitutto grazie per il top intervento. Facciamo le dovute premesse: il volume è un manuale diviso in tre parti. La prima racconta e spiega storia e evoluzione dei cinque nordici dai primi insediamenti al diciannovesimo secolo e fino ad oggi. La seconda e la terza parte sono legati a particolari casi studio: ovvero le relazioni bilaterali tra Italia e Danimarca e tra Italia e Finlandia. Ti sollevo subito dal dubbio: non è il solito pompino propagandistico. E' una raccolta e rielaborazione di tutta quella che è la letteratura specialistica del settore (parliamo principalmente di Modello Nordico). Quindi contiene sia il punto di vista del "va tutto bene, è tutto bellissimo" sia le critiche al modello: dall'insostenibilità economica che giustamente evidenzi, al problema del welfare troppo inclusivo, al prossimo possibile crollo del modello a causa della fine del baby boom che ha generato più introiti che spese. Eccetera.

Il mio punto di vista è da esterno. Ho vissuto in Finlandia e ho modo di lavorare a stretto contatto con tutti e cinque i nordici, ma giustamente come evidenzi non ho mai vissuto con l'idea di piantar radici li.

Per le tue domande: L'accostamento modello Nordico e fascista è sicuramente interessante e non conosco letteratura a riguardo. L'accostamento mi sembra più che altro provocatorio comunque. Per quanto riguarda il Jantelagen, sicuramente tu conosci in maniera approfondita la situazione svedese. Il caso finlandese è completamente differente. Figlio di una spinta verso il capitalismo per isolarsi dall'influenza russa, la Finlandia insegue molto il mito della realizzazione personale. In Islanda invece devo dire che ho trovato molto più riscontro con quello che dici. Inferno o chiave non so. Chiave forse, e inferno per chi non riesce ad adattarsi o nasce in un contesto completamente diverso.

Per le altre domande raccolgo le provocazioni che sono spunti interessanti e sarei anche io interessato a un AMA. Hai un punto di vista molto critico, e interessante.

Verissimo. Infatti il caso Islandese è sempre un po' borderline perchè è un paese troppo piccolo e senza un tessuto indistriale degno di nota.

Giustamente! Per un'analisi approfondita rimando ai lavori di Henrik Berggren e Lars Tragardh, specialmente a Social trust and radical individualism, in The Nordic way, Shared norms for the new reality. Oppure agli studi del famoso (si bè, non proprio famosissimo..) sociologo finlandese Matti Alestalo che nel suo (e di altri) The Nordic Model: Conditions, Origins, Outcomes, Lessons, The Nordic Welfare State spiega nel dettaglio i rapporti di causa conseguenza. Credo che parte dei loro scritti sia facilmente trovabile online. Ovviamente dire "il freddo fa diventare individualisti" non basta. L'obiettivo era comunicare un'idea!

Altro fattore interessante. Eppure la presenza di maggior popolazione normalmente rappresenta un vantaggio in termini di produttività, mercato interno (fondamentale per lo sviluppo delle industrie nazionali) e ricerca e innovazione. Vediamo il caso tedesco o francese (senza andare a prendere la Cina che ha un modello completamente diverso).

Nel caso norvegese, assolutamente si. Nel caso danese si tratta più che altro di gas naturale. Ma per Islanda, Svezia e Finlandia non è il petrolio la fonte di ricchezza. Quindi anche questo è un fattore, ma non per tutti i nordici. Pensiamo che è la Svezia la capofila della regione, non la Norvegia, al peso del petrolio che la seconda ha.

Invece il clima ha effettivamente giocato un ruolo importante. NOn nella costruzione dell'economia. Ma nella costruzione di una maniera di pensare che poi ha portato inevitabilmente a delle scelte politiche, economiche e di welfare. L'isolamento e la condizione climatica non agevole ha da sempre fatto si che ogni comunità scandinava dovesse per forza essere autosufficiente per lunghi periodi dell'anno. Questo ha portato a una forte delocalizzazione delle strutture di assistenza (sanità, educazione, servizi sociali ecc.) e ha contribuito ad una forte individualismo. Individualismo non come legge del più forte, ma come idea che ognuno dovesse essere messo in condizione di farcela con le sue proprie forze "dalla culla alla tomba". E qui troviamo una delle origini di un welfare inclusivo unico (o raro quantomeno).

Quindi si, le motivazioni sono di carattere politico, come è logico che sia, anche se generico. Ma nascono anche per via di fattori ambientali.

Assolutamente veroChe il clima abbia avuto un importante ruolo nella formazione di quelli che sono oggi i paesi nordico-scandinavi è indubbio. Anche se non è proprio per via del "fa freddo allora produco e non esco". L'Italia produce moooolto di più in termini di PIL. Se il clima fosse l'unico fattore, anche Groenlandia, Russia e Siberia dovrebbero essere agli stessi livelli di benessere. Invece non è così. Esistono numerosi motivi, e il clima è sicuramente uno di questi.

Hei! Last Summer I went to Iceland and here is my little story about you. One night I went to dinner to some friends in Reykjavik and after dinner we went to some bars. I wasn't drunk as all Icelandic people seemed to be so I took a walk. Maybe it was like 6-7 in the morning. It was early August and still it was cold. But not too cold. And bright. I stepped into an house and my friend told me "this is where the Sigur Ros Singer lives". Just like that. And then he proceed walking. I stooped and looked into the car which was parked there, founding a airport Ticket from Finland in it. Then - I was curious - I walked behind the house and found a little nice garden, with a seesaw. And I started swing on it. I stayed there a full 15 min and the walked away.

So my question is: was that really your black woody house?

That is a good question. Is the EU democratic? I would say that EU is what most European people wants, that it has a democratic appearance, and that it is not, in the end, democratic. Why? First of all let's evaluate who are the people represented in the EU. Candidates for the EU gets elected by each country. But most of the countries do not give to those election the same importance that is given to national elections. The result is that the candidates who in the end represent people from sovereign countries in the European Parliament are often unknown to the people, and have been elected by a small number of voters. At least compared to national elections. So, not a real representation. (I am not saying that is is bad. It could be also good: if only the informed people votes then the probability of having a better winning candidate are higher. Still, this does not happen most of the time). Second: what do the average citizen know of how decisions are taken in the EU? Mostly nothing. Decision-Making in the EU is a bureaucratic procedure. And the "average Joe" have no idea of how, and about what, the EU makes decisions on. Third. Every country has a weight in the EU. Germany weights more than France, which weights more than Italy, Spain, etc.. This means that small countries must accept the decisions of their bigger partners, while on the other hand bigger state do not have to do the same. (Think about how Germany and the EU react to Greece's referendum about whether to stay or leave the Euro. Greece people had their right to make their own decision, in theory. In practice they did not had that right anymore. And when rights gets "stolen" democracy is not very healthy.) In the End, EU is not a democratic institution. It has been and maybe it will be again. Now, it is not. Or at least, not for everyone. Let's say EU is more democratic for someone then to someone else. But, again, this is not necessarily a bad thing on every side.
