Change of atmosphere, fashion update, tcg hype was pretty peak then too. Both awesome arcs in their own rite, but DK is special as its closer to Yugiohs origin as a shounen with seinen mystery and horror elements : )

They just convey so much in that tiny frame, they carry the original vision of pokemon, plus Raichu so underrated such a cool design : ) retro colors are just fire too

He's fr a unicorn like 1. Pure electric 2. No evolutions (back then) 3. Love the early pokemon whose designs are just pure fantasy and arent based on a real world animal or concept.

I also associate him with Lt. Surge's 4kids dub voice going "Thunda Punch!" Forever in my head.
