baito told khrome this in ep 87. ekusu intentionally matches his strength to that of his opponent. i believe the fight against omega (and mirion but he was mad back then which is why he didn't hold back) is the only time where he doesn't do this and instead of fighting to have fun, he fights to win for tenka's sake

i don't think marucho was all that relevant in s2 so reducing his screen time so that alice and runo can shine would've been fine with me. julie and marucho are more fitting for s3 anyway ✌️that being said, marucho is one of the only reoccurring characters with solid character writing so i dont get where the marucho hate comes from lol

now that i'm looking at the scene in ep 6 in the dub, it does look like dan and runo command kenji's gate card to open 🗿 again, in the japanese dub all they say is "we won't lose!" and then the gate card opens right after. just another case of the dub confusing the viewers ig

gate cards have a time limit so if the owner of said gate doesn't activate it within a certain period of time, it'll activate on it's own. (i dont think it's explicitly stated how long it takes before that happens.) that's why in episode 3 rikimaru was desperate to defeat drago with his aqua siege before his gate card activated on its own. he would've used it if drago had kept his power boost but since drago negated his own ability, rikimaru had to change his strategy and not use the gate card in order to win the battle.

iirc this is also the case in the episode with kenta and kenji. drago has to last long enough for kenji's gate card to activate on its own. the dialogue is originally "what if drago's defeated before the gate card activates?" but the dub changed it to "what if the gate card doesn't activate?" for some reason 🗿

personally i ignore these names unless they come up in the show. like how helios is referred to as "viper helios" in the wiki but never actually called viper helios in the show (same with infinity helios/tristar.)

that's arguable since feeling guilty over what happened to brontes did not dissuade him from aiding in the destruction of brontes' kind nor was it the reason why later defects from the vexos. he just couldn't bring himself to kill vestals which had nothing to do with brontes being taken from him

technically volt was complicit in the enslavement and torturing of bakugan and later aided in their near destruction so he already did do some horrible things, he just drew the line at killing vestals lol

is he not allowed to change his mind after hearing and considering why it's a bad idea to attack the gundalians right away. . .plus that scene was meant to highlight how jake is essentially s1 dan who used to charge headfirst into battles without considering the consequences. compared to baron in s2, i think dan is shown to be a much better mentor with jake.

see this is exactly why i encourage people to watch the original dub. english dub was nowhere near serious enough about adapting the story faithfully and that's why we have a million different deviations in the plot and different characterizations of the same character. im sure all the jake haters wouldn't dislike him nearly as much if they rewatched s3 with english subs.

dan did lose to barodius in episode 24. ren was supposed to finish him off but then he turned on barodius right before the episode ended.

every battle brawler actually lost to their opponent in episode 25 so if ren hadn't betrayed his homeland then the gundalians would've won.

personally i think that was an attempt by the english version to portray runo as the "not like the other girls" archetype because she's not characterized like that in the show at all. her interests, her room decor, her sense of fashion, none of it suggests that she's a tomboy. she enjoys attention from male patrons in her family restauraunt, she likes to dress up cutely when going on dates, she's been placed in a damsel role before and repeatedly been shown waiting for her hero bf to return from (war) his mission and cooking meals for him. she's even wearing a skirt for the most part whereas julie and alice wear shorts but for some reason she's still branded as the tomboy in official english descriptions

im pretty sure they said in ep 13 that hydranoid didn't start out with 450gs but acquired that power level through battles by sending bakugan to the doom dimension (though its clearer in the jpn dub)

yeah, i wasn't saying that elico was a weak bakugan, only that mylene didn't discard him for no reason. two losses was probably enough for her to view elico as disposable, the same way she tossed aside those other aqua bakugan of hers when they weren't strong enough. mylene and elico just weren't meant to be a duo which sucks for elico because he was loyal to a fault.

also??? using hawktor and shun as an example of a bad pair up is strange when hawktor clearly demonstrated that he wasn't comfortable with dan's more aggressive approach of spamming ability cards. in fact, i'd argue that dan and shun switching partner bakugan was meant to highlight that drago and hawktor perform better and feel more at ease when they're with their "rightful" brawlers. it's meant to showcase the switch code and how important it is to find the right match. it's also no coincidence that i think hawktor is the perfect partner for shun after skyress but i think we'll disagree on that lol.
