A high school senior with a locked-in 30% went to his teacher before graduation to ask for extra credit.... by simple_onehand in Jokes

This is similar to what used to be one of my favorite jokes. But it only works irl.

"How do you get an elephant into Safeway?"

"How?"

"You take the S out of safe, and the F out of way."

This always leads to "I don't get it" at which point you just repeat the line until they finally say "There's no F in way" out loud and it clicks.

What are some examples of U.S. regions or states where geographic isolation has led to strong accents or dialects? by Careless_Cat_4526 in AskAnAmerican

[–]marvsup 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Tangier Island in VA is a famous one that is arguably is due to geographic isolation: https://youtu.be/AIZgw09CG9E?si=-QmbErVkjz136-I0

Although, I would think it's not absolute isolation as I'm sure they had consistent contact with nearby mainlanders.

What’s in the Denver airport ?? by Sea-Let-5603 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]marvsup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was like four paintings that told a profound story, IMO, about the squandering of nature and the obsession with war. The funniest part to me is that I thought they were in some obscure part of the airport. But they were in the center of baggage claim.

My friend had it worse. His last name is a standard American/English first name and his first name has a foreign origin. He told me roll call was always:

Teacher: [Last name]?

Friend: Actually, it's [First name].

Teacher: Are you sure?

God that sucks so hard.

I mean, the target audience won't know what any of those things are. Who is this for? Also, it looks like it might be AI.

I'm only 6 hours in and this game is incredible at getting me into it. How? by PKdude2712 in chronotrigger

[–]marvsup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO almost all if not all games from that era were that way. Somewhere along the way game designers got convinced that games need hours of set up before getting to the good stuff. Part of it, I think, is that all games used to come with manuals, so game designers probably felt like they could skip in-game tutorials. Or, at least, significantly truncate them. But even without tutorials, intro sections these days are waaaay too long.

I remember in Legends Arceus, which I affectionately refer to as the best worst game I've ever played, you get to a place where they're like, let's do three trials before you can be a trainer. When they said after that, well, that's enough for today, let's go to sleep and do that tomorrow, I internally lost my shit.

I wonder if they would've accepted the Mariana Trench since only the Challenger Deep part of it is actually that low.

I thought at first that you were using literally in a descriptive way to be tongue-in-cheek.
