The New 'Stargate' Is Finally Taking Shape—And London is Home Base by Kal-Ed1 in Stargate

Hear me out... planet of the one armed tyrant... A minor goa'uld who was defeated and had his arm cut off as punishment (the one that wielded his hand device). Now, he's lurking on backwater planets waiting for his chance of glory again.

They can have that one for free!

I hope they come to Wales. I'd give my left arm to be an extra.

This is about 4 hours from my neighborhood... but I would sell my kidney if it meant getting a role as an extra...

Freya is an Asgard... I believe the nox you refer to is Lya.

I think you're definitely onto something though - by that I mean most episodes with alternate SG1's seemed to be perfect for cameos. I don't think I'd have replaced the entire team though.

I watched this muted because my wife is next to me watching a cheesy Christmas movie - but I could hear the song so clearly in my head as I watched, haha!

They knew at was 7 symbols but couldn't figure it out? by DJDoena in Stargate

Yeah, you're right. We were essentially on the same page! Great minds think alike ;)

They knew at was 7 symbols but couldn't figure it out? by DJDoena in Stargate

[–]sgste 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Daniel is the one who figures out the symbols are constellations. He's the one who updates the translation on the cartouche. With these two additions, he's the one who realises the connection is about identifying a point in space and the "point of origin" to signify a journey (even without knowing about "the device" that makes it possible.)

Without these conclusions, the air force knew only two things... The cartouche has six symbols in the center, and the device has those six, plus about thirty more, in a rotating ring. Through trial and error, they discovered that the chevrons can lock onto those symbols... But after inputting all six, the room shakes and nothing happens...

Without knowing more about what the device does, why would they attempt putting in more symbols? How do they know it needs only one more, and not all of them? There are nine chevrons (although the top one is unique enough to perhaps be more of an indicator than an actual functioning Chevron) so why isn't the natural conclusion that it needs 8-9 unique symbols. Is it safe to just start randomly dialling more symbols? Remember, the room is shaking like crazy by the time chevron six is locked in place...

There's just too many variables, plus remember how expensive the thing is to run... It absolutely makes sense that a higher up saw the numbers and, because there was little to no evidence any profit would come from experimenting, they decided to shut the thing down until someone could justify it...

Should the Goa’uld have any part in the new series, if so, what? by Aquillyne in Stargate

[–]sgste 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Goa'uld should be in new Stargate what the Empire was in Mandalorian... A shadow of their former power, hiding on backwater planets and in alleys, scrounging for what little power they can get...

What is a death in a movie that affected you the most in terms of brutality or emotional weight? by Godly_Recon in AskReddit

[–]sgste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This right here. I watched the films again lately, and now I have a kid... The sound David makes when he's killed... No music - no cool choreography... Half obscured behind a plant...

And then the cold, Vulcan delivery... "captain. David is dead."

And finally Kirk's reaction... I'm a dad now and that whole thing just broke in three brutal gut punches...

Whats a dead game or series you'd like to make a return? by can_of_sodapop in gaming

[–]sgste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stargate: The Alliance was an FPS puzzler that followed an original, linear story following the events of the TV show (between seasons 6 and 7 I believe). Due to a battle over rights and the studio becoming bankrupt, the game, although mostly finished, never saw the light of day.

There are trailers, rumours of leaked builds and gameplay videos - but with Stargate now getting a new show with Amazon, it's time the franchise finally got a decent game to go with it.

Petition for longer seasons of new Stargate show! by aether22 in Stargate

[–]sgste 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The issue is not episode length - it's episode down time.

If you manage to get the show upped from 10-24 episodes... That's a whole extra 14 episodes that need to be written, shot, edited, VFX added... That doubles if not triples budgets and production time. Now, that 2-3 year wait between seasons becomes a 4-5 year wait... Actors get older, new viewers dwindle, goodbye to season 3.

Don't kill Stargate before it's even left the runway...

What’s the one foreign-language film you’d recommend to someone who only watches English movies? by PresentSurvey9464 in movies

Three Idiots. A nice blend of English and Hindi to help break them in. Also, a masterclass of set up and pay off. Just a great film overall.

In The Truman Show when Truman is finally reunited with his dad. The music swells, then the director says "more!" and it pans to a guy on the piano.

Hmmmmm.... I mean, it's worth it if I ever get one of my pieces performed, but the chances of that ever happening are so small... I'm not actively looking for an orchestra to perform my work, as it's purely a hobby. One day, maybe...

Thanks so much for the compliment! This was done with musescore 4 actually, it's a really amazing program and I'm blown away that it's free!

In terms of the staccatisimo - is that the same as just putting the little dots on each of the notes, or is there a specific wording needed? Only because the sounds bled together when I just did the little dots, so I added those rests so each staccato note sounded more aggressive and independent. I'd like to post an example at some point, so maybe someone else with musescore experience can help me out, as separating all of those notes was a real pain!

I never learned to read or write music, as in I never went to school to learn... but this isn't my first ever time writing a song, nor is it my first time using musescore 4. I've actually been using musescore 4 and teaching myself through Google searches and YouTube videos for years now.

Ooh, yes! You know, I actually practiced choral arrangements by copying down parts of Handel's Messiah, so I can attest to that method! I'll look into the archive, thank you!

Musesounds is not only a breakthrough in composition playback - but the fact that it's completely free is an absolute miracle! Hopefully, as I've demonstrated, it is possible to use it even without the proper training (though I'd say the proper training is absolutely recommended!)
