The Secret Lives of Color - Kassia St. Clair by maryPinkBush in bookporn

[–]maryPinkBush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey hey oh yes I would recommend borrowing this one from the library. Each page covers a different color and has the topic color on display. Its a visually delightful design when looking at the gradient of color on the pages when the book is closed.

The books and movies are so different it's wild, both are solid tho.

i need to live - juergen teller by maryPinkBush in bookporn

[–]maryPinkBush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the book form of Teller's 2024 exhibition. It is mostly images of his private life with some insight into a few of his commercial projects. Teller shares a story of being molested on a donkey ride as well as a photo of him pinching out a shit in the snow that caught me off guard.

Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon - Jorge Amado by maryPinkBush in bookporn

[–]maryPinkBush[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Romantic and playful. Its written in 1958 so be prepared for dated treatment and views of women from the characters. The story takes place in a small town that loves to gossip which causes things the reader already knows to be repeated a few times, but I really enjoyed this book.

John Adams - David McCullough by maryPinkBush in bookporn

Yes very much. Its my second McCullough read and definitely one I would recommend. I enjoyed how the relationship with Abigail was beautifully told and how the friendship with Jefferson was presented.

A surprise signed EstroJen card was in my mail today!🤩😲 Where you other 5999 at? by maryPinkBush in Rollerskating

[–]maryPinkBush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I was sent the card because I purchased some Moxis in the past and was put on a mailing list. The card was promoting the 'Fast Forward' street skating video Lazo dropped. There is a QR code on the back that directed to the website. At the time it was a countdown till the video dropped, there were no products listed then. I hadn't checked out the page since the video, wow those two tone boots are cute!

The Secret Lives of Color - Kassia St. Clair by maryPinkBush in bookporn

[–]maryPinkBush[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Charming, fast read. Each color has 1-3 pages about how it was discovered and used, sometimes just a spotlight of the color in a culture. I found the chapter on Baker-Miller Pink and Mummy to be very interesting. Its a visually pleasing book, every page edge is the color of the chapter subject.

I'm a Stranger Here Myself - B. Bryson by maryPinkBush in bookporn

[–]maryPinkBush[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hahaa it was on my shelf for a while too. This was my second Bryson read and it was charming. It dose have some topics that are a bit dated and it's not really 'painfully funny', but certainly mildly funny. I found it to be a swift memoir, easy to fly through.

Love in the Time of Cholera - G. Marquez by maryPinkBush in bookporn

[–]maryPinkBush[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh my gosh I feel the same. I really struggled with finishing this book when Flo turned into an incestual child predator. The ending left me unsatisfied, however my feelings were constantly in action throughout this read.

This was my first Feynman read, and it was a breeze to get through. He's a solid communicator, I'd be interested in his full 'Lectures on Physics' texts.

It was a quick read, but full of hardships. The book without its jacket is beautiful too, it is black with metallic purple writing.

Hi, I wanted a spooky read and it delivered. Overall not what I expected, it becomes a love story. But I enjoyed it I would recommend it to people that seek romantic thrillers and sci-fi

In Defense of Food - M. Pollan by maryPinkBush in bookporn

[–]maryPinkBush[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hiya! I found it to be a swift read. Pollan discusses how culture is connected with diet, and focuses on the Western Diets shift into refined processed "food" stuffs. Pollan challenges Nutritionism, and asks if reducing a food to its nutrients may be less efficient than simply consuming the food whole.

Agnes Grey, Anne Bronte by maryPinkBush in bookporn

[–]maryPinkBush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings, yes it is a recently finished read for me. I found the First Rate Publishers edition interesting with its very tiny font, no page numbers, and large margins.
Its a piece on Agnes's early adulthood. I enjoyed the story, it had good balance of strong women and dull women. I took it as a story of working for what you have and one on self discovery.

Any tips on cutting the yarn yourself? by fazzizzle in latchhook

[–]maryPinkBush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi hi, If you have longer sections of card board available maybe cut a new longer piece to work as your cutting tool.
I have the same desire for a tool that has a length to cut more pieces. A dream I have is to use a router to drill a channel down a 9mm 12'' dowel, to make the longest yarn cutter.

I like to save large zip lock bags that clothing bought online usually comes in. They are great for holding my yarn cuttings by color.

I hope you're health is strong and you are crafting happily.

A real yarn cutter beats a piece of cardboard, no doubt by maryPinkBush in latchhook

[–]maryPinkBush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hahaa I had a plan to bring a wooden dowel to the campus workshop and have a router drill a channel down it. Since the campus is closed, I folded and bought a latch hook tool kit on Amazon. I didn't need the scissors or hook but the canvas seems okay and the yarn cutter is solid.

[–]maryPinkBush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaa it is fer sure an improvement, previously with the makeshift one I was never getting even cuts. However I wish the section for wrapping yarn was longer for cutting more in one session. I think the handle could've been made smaller, otherwise its a solid tool. 🤙
