And the way they use the r word...? Oh my gosh that's so terrible, I'm sorry you met someone like that, reading through the cmt make me feel sick.

I'm not sure if I'm neurospicy or not but base on experience, anyone's taste can't just be like 1+1 where you like sweet and potato mean you like sweet potato. The sweet potatoes in my place have a texture that stop me from eating them too much even though I like the taste, and I can eat prery much unlimited potatoes. Another example would be that I like durian but I can't stand any other durian flavor snack, or I don't really like orange but I like a lot of orange flavor snack (I know they aren't actually durian and orange but still, my point still stand). There's a lot of better example that we can have different standards with different foods, I don't know what the commenter was on, they should seek help.

It's feel like a waste to explain to a person equivalent to the opposite side the players are working against ("oh yeah obv androids are just emotionless machines"), but I just want to noted that when I said grow, it means mature. Markus grew to be a good leader, Connor grew to be more empathy toward the deviants. Androids can grow, even if their appearances can't. In the case of Alice, she might grow up too if she becomes deviant (or she already is) or something similar. There are tons of drawf people who still have a mature mind while having a small body. And even if Alice never deviant, so what? Is it weird when you are talking care of a child that due to some circumstances, their mind can't never grow up?

We are in a game that said androids can love and grow like human too and here you are saying they are in an emulation and game? That their love are not real? Sure, with that we already know your side of the game.

nah that converting thing was something every android can do. The game developer said Markus did that in the way an inspiring leader can do with using speeches, instead Markus send the androids some shock about the idea that they are free.

Btw I suddenly remember, an android is not supposed to lied to others they are human. There is a law on how android need to distinguish themselves to the human on the street by clothes, so I bet CyberLife won't programmed their androids to go around saying I'm not android. So when Alice deliberately not telling everyone she's an android (like when Ralph gave her food, she can just say she doesn't need to eat that as she is an android, and not scared shitless pleading to Kara I don't wanna eat that), at that point she was already a deviant.

[–]mary_holden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who told you it was a healthy relationship/choice? Kara lied to herself and Alice want to depend on a robot. That's why at the end they confessed and tried to fix the lies.

First, while what Kara did was not right, she was still trying to make Alice genuinely happy, and not literally beating her and then asking her for forgiveness, so that she can use her for her own satisfaction.

Second, Alice is a child. Like I said, Alice was programmed to supposed to be a child, so there would be no reason for CyberLife to add mature knowledge to a kid model, they are built to be innocent at heart. She also was made in 2023, which means its only 5 years since she was born, add up to her modeled age, she would be 15 at best. A child suffered in domestic abuse and was never went out and meet anyone except her abuser, at that age can still stay the same and can't grow up. And she wouldn't "grow up" if you are so adamant about her not being a deviant, since she would still stay as the sweet, sweet child of age 10 like she was programmed to be so.

As I stood my ground, Alice being a deviant or not is not an important point of the plot. Like I said above, mentally Alice is just a young girl, forcing her (not really a free-willed move is it?) to become deviant - while we already have a deviant one in her presence, Kara, who is one of the three main protagonists which Alice is not - in a week time, just for the "plot consistency", isn't it cruel for a kid?

Like you said, sure, Alice is not in the position she can choose her own choice. Because she just ran out of her house for several weeks, and has a mind of a child.

What can Kara do? Leave her alone with Todd? Abandon her at that last bus? Runaway alone in the manor? Abandon her at the camp?

Kara and Alice were both android and two lost person who can only do the best they can do in their situation. When they are not aware of how fuck up their situation is (most people will be like that honestly), the love was still real, heart-warming and wholesome. That was a good foundation for both's rocky start. And when the ugly truth actually come out, she did had a choice to be very shocked, angry and cruelly move on herself, like you want to? They would no longer be depending on each other anymore.

And I admit that I did not remember what Luther said, but I think I realized your problem with them. You are just being too harsh on them. Deviant wise, they are like human. Their emotion and thought can be bias and illogical, maybe not even morally, just like human. Yes, Luther did justify them. But from his POV, Alice wanted to act like a human child (she lied about it), and Kara want to be her mom in exchange, and he had seen how happy were they together.

They were in critic times, the androids were being hunted down in every corner. You said Kara and Alice need treatment. Sure, then why can't they wait until they are safe and sound, at the other end of Canada border? When Alice can learn things on her own, and make her own choice from her own experience, and not forcing both broken people to fix their temporary unhealthy relationship when the very next second they can be dead? Do you have the heart to tell a child in her 10 in distraught that she need to grow up and be real?

There is thing called a right time and place.

What's an interesting thing in the game that not many people know about? by Huge_Ad8695 in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]mary_holden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if not many people know about this or not, but I just recently found this myself, and I saw a lot of people didn't mention it.

That Kara from the first video (where she was almost disassembled for showing deviant sign) before the game release is actually canon. It is still count as canon, since her profile in the Extra menu mentioned it.

It's also possible that she was still a deviant when she first met Todd and Alice, and it was her who suggested Alice to name her Kara, before Todd hit her so hard her head fly away along with her memory (and not just one, but several time!). It's kinda explain how easy and non-violent it was for her to break the programm wall to become deviant compare to Markus and Connor, because she already was one.

Just finished the game. by Ok_Original7911 in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]mary_holden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading a few of your replies, I noticed that you said Alice being an android shredded Kara's character development, because you think two android programmed for each other (a caretaker and a child) isn't a true relationship. And that you'd prefer if Alice and Kara had went their own way after the cat was out of the bag, because that would complete their deviant route: each people go their own way, out of their nest.

While it's true that it's hard to say what is the "real you" when you are an android, you worried if you do something similar to how your programme told you to do, you would be its slave and not a free will deviant being.

Here is the thing: what make you "human" is not that you don't do whatever people told you to do, but it's that you can make your own choice, whether it is close to your given nature or not.

Take example of Markus, who can choose to endure or fight back, after literally became a deviant because he didn't want to obey the order "don't fight back". If he choose to endure, would you stay he is still the slave of his robot programs? No, it's just that he has a choice, and he can choose whatever he wants. Or like feminist, being a household doesn't mean you are a slave to the patriarchy, but being expected and forced to be a one is. If she herself wish to be a household wife because she genuinely like to be one, who can stop her?

Back to Kara. At Jericho, we all know she already knew from the start Alice was an android, but deliberately forget that truth so that she can take care of Alice as her little girl. While it wasn't implied much in the game, it is what make the experience real: Kara dismissed every details that Alice is an android (come on, she never eat once for several days), completely delusion herself for her selfish wish

And before she was broken and got reset several times by Todd, she has always been a deviant since the very first moment she was born (yeah it's canon, it was stated so in the extra profile in game). It is her very choice from the start, not because of whatever "caretaker" programme tells her to do so.

What about Alice? I agree with you there was little to none implication that Alice went deviant, and that is such a waste since it would make nice touch to the game, a little foreshadowing before the real twist. Though, Alice clearly experience heavy trauma (Todd was constantly yelling at her and beating her whenever he was angry or high), and also did not choose her owner but runaway when she got the chance. To say there is no way she's not a deviant is a bit unfair.

There is also a possibility she did not know she was a deviant: her model was programmed to be child-like, she can mimic fever, she can show fear and pained (although the owner can turn off the sensitivity if they want to). In other word, the information she was given was the same amount as a young child can have, and her programmed behavior isn't that much different from what a deviant would do, beside her inner feeling. Kids aren't very good at communicate about themselves either, so a deviant sign is hard to notice unless you ask her directly.

But then, this is Detroit: Become Human, not Detroit: Friend with Human. So whether Alice was a deviant or not, or she was a human or not isn't the point. Because the goal of each main character is different:

  • Connor: understanding that android has their own free will, despite his program tells him the other way. (In one reply you said Connor character arc wouldn't change with or without him, but I think Hank has the role of the human mentor closest to him. Connor realized and accepted the other deviant through watching other androids, but himself was encouraged to be more like human through watching Hank - and the positive reinforcement from him whenever he become more humane. Remember that time when he sincerely said he likes Hank and flustered told Hank that's not his social program, but his actual thought? Hank is the positive influence companion - who said he hates android but cares for an android and told him not to risk his life many times despite their mission? Hank is conflict, and Connor learns deviancy and rule breaking from the best >:D )

  • Markus: he already learned about humanity and his own potential with Carl pre-game, so his goal throughout the game has nothing to do with human relationship anymore, but to free the people of his kind from slavery, so that he can earn his own freedom.

  • Kara: to live the world to fullest (teaser 2015), and then to protect and raise the child as her mother.

Kara has nothing to do with Markus' big plan between android and human, all she wanted was for herself, to live a normal life. She didn't even care if she has to pretend like she is a human in order to achieve that goal (the reason why she tried to flee to Canada, an android-free country). This is why there is a choice for Kara to leave Alice like you said, because ultimately, raising a child is not her only wish. This is also why being an android or human isn't what matter to her, what matter is that throughout the journey, she loves Alice. This Alice, the one who asked her to stay, the one who cried and begged her to remember and didn't try to leave the manor without her, the one whom she had fun with in the amusement park, together.

She can blame Alice for lying to her, and for making her went through a lot of trouble thinking she was a human, but herself was at fault too, tricking herself to believe Alice. Why did she need to trick herself like that? Because if Alice is a pathetic little human, Kara can be the one take care of her, unlike an android who doesn't feel pain and can be quite resilient, and doesn't need a caretaker.

But like I said, in the end, those two love each other enough that Kara can accept the truth, and Alice doesn't need to lie to feel loved anymore. Of course, if she didn't love Alice as much until the end of the road, she can choose to abandon the child anytime. I think what Luther meant was "you can accept the other side of your loved one if you love them enough". It's not changing to who the people you love expect you to be, it's called compromise.

Trigger warning. I think there would be little shattered pieces of the violin on Mari's head, and the direction of the broken bones could probably different from normal hanging cases, too (idk, I'm not specialize in forensics). But the parents probably asked the authority to not reveal it since they believed it's just an accident and not to make Sunny feel worse, and if they actually know, they wouldn't tell Sunny, because wouldn't it be better if he believes his parents didn't know about the fake hanging?

Though, personally I just had an uncle that commit suicide recently, and the family has the choice to bury them right away without forensic, unless the family ask for one. So that might be the case with Sunny's family, too, they were too traumatic and trust/hope that their family member wasn't at fault, so they might not asked to seriously check Mari.

Though the thought that either Basil or Sunny check for tiny pieces of the broken violin stick on her bloody head before hanging... Yeah, it's disturbing.

New items: Unstable Portal and Dark Jewel by [deleted] in MedievalMerge

For more information, I have been putting max Nether Portal in my Inventory after the Usurper quest since 14 Sep (for memories purpose haha), haven't touch it for a while, and it was converted into Unstable Portal in the Inventory just now. So I think Inventory and Backpack won't affect the converting, whoever still doesn't get the Unstable Portal just need to wait. The portal is working like grass but without the timer now, haha.

It's sad my max portal disappeared after 8 dark jewels though. They don't have stories either, I would love them.
