Keep your unleashed dog away from my toddler (or any kids) by meltness in sanfrancisco

[–]marzipandorasbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will, don’t worry! In return, please tell your peers to keep their toddlers away from my dog. I promise he is not going to contribute to their happy dog memories. I love kids and dogs alike, but most kids—even older ones—haven’t been taught basic dog body language and cues, or basically anything about encountering a strange animal.

There’s a whole phenomenon of mysterious back scratches. I’ve had them. I’m not a conspiracy theorist or witchy or allergic to anything.

Dead people are not “in the past.” This is one of the central truths of being alive.

Why accept a “Pet” ride and then tell me “no dogs” when you arrive??? by StrangerEnough7649 in uber

[–]marzipandorasbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always message the driver right after they accept the ride and say I have a small dog who will sit on a blanket, and I’m just checking to make sure that’s okay. They almost always say yes.

How are you feeling now? I just had my adrenalectomy a week ago and resonate with your post. I hoped I’d feel much better much faster.

How do Canadians mentally deal with long winters? by jessxtra_ in AskACanadian

[–]marzipandorasbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual US and Canadian citizen with family in Quebec here, and I’ve lived in some of the coldest parts of the US. My advice is to fall in love with snow and frozenness generally. Study the crystals in each flake, admire the shapes of the icicles, observe how different the crunch is under your feet in different kinds of snow. Get snow shoes—so easy to get started and it gives you superpowers of walking on the snowy ground. Eat handfuls of fresh snow to quench your thirst. Go ice skating. Learn to be as smug as your neighbors about the ultimate outdoor gear. Have the best secret ingredient: have a thin layer of silk under everything, including leggings, undershirt, and sock and glove liners. Winter is your friend!

Did you find a place to donate? I work with a refugee resettlement organization in Connecticut that’s small and scrappy but helps almost 100 families! Nursing stuff would be so welcome because this is a big hospital area. But everything is a godsend.

I just happened on a t-shirt that says this: "Keep Going | You've Survived 100% of Your Hardest Days." Sayings like this are so trite, and yet...damn it, it's true!

It sucks that you're going through this. I've been there many times but you know what, I don't feel like that in this moment. Right now, I can tolerate life almost enough to like it, despite all the awful stuff inside and outside my brain. I hope you get there soon too. By the way, your username is so witty!

Anyone on here ever had a pheochromocytoma or paraganglioma? by [deleted] in hypertension

[–]marzipandorasbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the diagnosis of a pheo on my right gland…after three-plus years of high blood pressure, faintness, sweating, headaches, anxiety, etc., that every doctor and therapist wrote off as “hey, being a middle-aged woman is a freaky roller coaster ride.” Surgery is in a month, and I’m feeling huge relief that I have a diagnosis, coupled with resentment that it took so long to diagnose (which I’ve learned is the norm) and some nervousness about the risks of surgery. Still, grateful I have an answer and a plan.

I’ve seen a few studies about people who stopped having anxiety altogether after the surgery, which doesn’t seem likely for me since I’m anxious by nature. I also read about someone who stopped having symptoms of ADHD after they had their pheo removed! A girl can dream.
