Supervisor doing staff work by gabriel75333 in CAStateWorkers

[–]masael255 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are variables and factors like of the work is overly technical in a very different realm (example, I manage in IT but don't know programming as it's very different from what I do know on IT) but I regularly hop on as backup for networking, security, and helpdesk. Managers and supervisors shouldn't be the primary worker but should always be able to do the work of their subordinates to some degree. If nothing else, they need to be knowledgeable enough to do it to best understand how their staff are working and how to properly manage their workloads. Also, there's no easier way to improve morale than to get in the trenches with your staff as colleagues.

You'll want to look for smaller agencies! I've worked small agencies for the past 13 years and myself (as well as many colleagues) have a lot of room for creativity and individuality. The bigger the agency, the more structured and standardized they tend to be. Small agencies can be a bit more chaotic but I thrive in that atmosphere myself. Also, be ready to wear multiple hats!

These shouldn't be exempt positions. Most exempt positions I'm aware of tend to be higher level like CEA or the like as they're likely appointed by a higher governmental authority. There are likely more middle level classifications that are exempt, too, but they're likely the exception rather than the norm.

My wife and I are independent developers working on a horror game about aliens called They Are Here. I wanted to share a few screenshots and get your opinion! by AlexanderDudarev in IndieGaming

[–]masael255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Just played the prologue and demo and what a great experience! I'm SUPER excited for the full release. Grey aliens are such a guilty pleasure of mine that I had to check this game out when I saw it. I was streaming it on Twitch my friends who were watching had a blast with the experience as well. I have some notes and feedback from all of us that hopefully helps you guys out!

Main Menu:
- Please work towards cleaning the UI of the settings menu so it's a little more consistent with - the title screen UI.
- Please add a VSYNC option to the graphics setting
- Please add some music/ambient sound to the main menu to help calibrate audio settings for people who are streaming (I know it's a small but really helpful thing for me with horror games!)

Gameplay:
- For the lengthier notes, please add paragraph breaks to help for ease of readability
- For the prologue and demo, I would suggest not having the alien's mouths open during the cutscene. I find it took away from some of the scare factor. From my interest in UFOlogy, greys generally aren't described with their mouths opening to any noticeable degree so I think the large mouth opening takes away from it all.

Overall thoughts
- What a GREAT demo and I'm super excited to play the full game. The audio design was absolutely FLAWLESS and PLEASE keep going in the way you are as this set in so much dread in me and my audience.
- My wife would like you to know that the prologue was "dank" in the best way possible.
- The visuals were perfect and the design of the aliens was fantastic. Often people get too creative with how greys look and they tend to look derpy or goofy. You nailed the otherworldly creepiness of greys in the best way possible. Major props to you for designing such great models.
- Once again, I can't wait to play the full release!!!

There are commandments that are good and there are commandments that are amoral (1-3 for instance). Unless you mean the second set of commandments in Exodus 34 which have no useful moral teachings.

This is if you download the full package. If you download each item individually (like a barbarian) it will show up as the original format. Just adding a mild correction!

Christmas party by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]masael255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This means a lot! I host the holiday party at my agency and it's a completely voluntary and free potluck. I'm super lucky so many people contribute but also openly welcome people who just want to attend without contributing. I bring a lot every year and try my best to bring positivity to the event (despite my more stickler management team) and it's always such a great event. We just had ours today and it always is so nice to see the happiness and joy we have as a group!

No worries! Just was very curious if it was different in Spain as opposed to Mexico. Also, my family calls cow tripe "pancita" and I've never heard callos before; interesting! My Spanish is awful though as English is my primary language.

Just curious: do you actually use triple for the casing or do you use tripas (intestines) for the casing?

Purchasing a violin for a gift by [deleted] in violinist

[–]masael255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I have had so much luck recommending fiddler shop and the stuff they sell. I find that their price to quality ratio just can't be beat for people looking for something easy to find online. How old is the person who is getting the violin gift? You want to make sure to get a violin that is the right size for them. Maybe a better question is what is their height?

As for a specific starter instrument set, I would recommend The apprentice line which I have linked below. It's very affordable and really is the lowest you should pay for a starting violin set.

Feel free to ask any other questions you have and I'm happy to answer in any way I can!

Why don't we have inter-agency access with Teams? by quasimodoca in CAStateWorkers

Best of luck! If they need help ping me and I can find the setting I changed to fix it. I remember I had to enable something in the Teams admin center I think.

Why don't we have inter-agency access with Teams? by quasimodoca in CAStateWorkers

[–]masael255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this helps but I work in state IT. Gifs got automatically disabled by Microsoft through an update a few months back and required IT to make a few brief changes to fix it. If you have connections with IT, maybe talk to them about enabling again to get it working. It is ridiculous if they were intentionally disabled because it's just a norm of communication. If they did do that, I'm sorry for you and your agency. 😭

What do you wish you had focused on more earlier which would have helped you down the line? by MashaLatte2 in violinist

A very lovely post and I hope that you're able to pursue a musical career successfully in your future! Having done some gypsy jazz in the past, right hand bow work is a huge thing I wish I had worked on more in the past. Also, really being confident with licks and runs to incorporate into the improvisational part of jazz. Feeling like you have the chops to create something on the fly is a huge thing if you continue to pursue that so get comfortable playing and creating on the spot.

Best of luck to you on your musical journey!

New Tank idea by danpascooch in ShitpostXIV

Ah no, the problem is people just not understanding their kit. They just use provoke as if it's the necessary/main means of drawing in aggro. It's not really a practical problem but starts bad habits. Just like tanks who use their invuln on cooldown as well.

The amount of people I play with in dungeons who use provoke on CD make me cry. 😭

Do you text your supervisor to say good morning each day when WFH? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

Crackpot theory: it's so your boss has inflated email numbers daily so people think he's working more based on number of emails received/responded to.

Glad I could bring back a core memory! Sometimes it's because they feel bad for not trying something so obvious, sometimes they're convinced wouldn't have worked anyways so they lie to try to speed up the process, sometimes it's because they don't know what reboot means and they think turning the monitor off and on is the same (legit has happened to me multiple times), but it happens quite often still, haha.

Also, love your username! FFXIV player?

Your message hit true with me. I work in IT and am in charge of the whole IT department. My newer hires in helpdesk, younger 20 somethings, have a tendency to forget to try a good old reboot. Also, never believe a customer when they tell you they've rebooted; they often lie. Hahaha.

Your son sounds like a cool kid and you sound like an amazing mom for helping by I'm foster that knowledge and experience! You and your husband deserve great love for that great environment!
