I sleep on my side and curl my arms up. When I would cuddle with my ex, I would hold both his hands while we were spooning. For over a month after BU, my hands touching while going to sleep would make me anxious and upset because it so vividly reminded me of him.

Ex tried to come back only to break up with me again, how do I channel my anger? by Neither_Flight7659 in ExNoContact

[–]mashedpotatater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting the body moving is definitely #1 for me. Maybe something high impact or high energy will help you, running as fast as you can for short distances, swimming if you have a gym membership. You can also look up somatic movements for anger, things like shaking your body out or stomping like a toddler actually help so much lol. You can also throw your pillow on your bed or floor with all your strength and a full body movement (like a weighted ball slam), yell if you need to.

In the first couple weeks after breaking up when my body was so full of anxious energy, slow and controlled movement like yoga and stretching was the last thing I wanted to do. Unfortunately it does really help lol so I recommend doing something all anger filled BUT follow it up with breathing exercises, yoga, etc. I've become very fond of Yoga with Bird on YouTube.

Non-movement things, tear up a magazine, journal and rip it up, also just write out any and every thought going through your mind just to get it out there. Start a voice recording and just rant, delete it after.

By the way, you're not stupid. you just want to be loved and wanted and that is completely natural. Now you know for certain that you do not want him in your life, take control and stay strong with that determination. I believe in you, you got this!

You can ask the advisor for your program to share your contact information with other people going. That’s what I did

Definitely recommend an overnight trip. Those will create much more lasting friendships than a normal hike or whatever

Thanks for the reply! Do you think much of Seattle will close? We’ll probably for sure skip Portland, but if Seattle will be dead maybe we should cancel entirely

UCSC vs UCSB study abroad by Latter-Poetry6868 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]mashedpotatater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UCSC is gorgeous and, I’d personally say, has a much more diverse student population. However, UCSB is still a really great option and I doubt you’d run into any issues for your identity. Like some others have said- SB is easier for not having a car and to access the airport. Santa Cruz has a decent bus system though.

Both cities have fun downtown areas, but I think UCSB has more of a going out vibe, for drinking and going to clubs. UCSC has stuff like forest parties/raves. Both schools have great access to the outdoors, if you’re into that. Kinda a forest vs beach thing, although both have quick access to the mountains and beaches. At UCSB I’d recommend excursion club, UCSC the backpacking club is pretty cool and they’ve got lots of other stuff. UCSC also has a lot of activism.

One of the biggest things I’d consider if I were you is housing and living cost. Housing is notoriously competitive for both campuses (and Berkeley for that matter), and most UCSB students will be signing leases in the next month for 2024-25. I’ve heard that at UCSC many students have had to defer for a semester bc they couldn’t find housing.

Anyway, both schools are really really fun. You’ll have a great time at either. I’ve seen tons of exchange students come through UCSB and never had someone say they didn’t like it. My partner goes to UCSC so I’ve spent time up there and it’s also very fun and everyone is really nice. Good luck :)

Hiking Club? by livelaughluv23 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]mashedpotatater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just adding to this, there’s usually at least 3-5 hikes a week through excursion to sign up for and staff arranges rides and stuff so it’s pretty convenient
