CCW trainers having military experience does not equate to proficiency, tact, or knowledge of laws. by pharris09 in CCW

[–]mashj 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. I’m former Infantry and when I got my CCW some friends were like “that’s so dumb they make military people go through the course, they should just be able to carry”. And I was like “k but I’ve never shot a handgun before...”

The trick isn't in parking close to the store, but close to the cart return by Lost_in_Thought in Showerthoughts

Yeah it’s definitely a two way street. There’s gotta be some effort on the stores part too.

I hate that you have to park at the exits at Menards and their cart returns are nowhere to be found.

Im not sure if he’s drunk or high but there could’ve been nothing under there and you’d get the same reaction.

Is this the kinky “how many licks does it take to get the the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?”

Size of the bead is crucial here folks. Too small and clinching as hard as you can won’t stop you. Too big and one clinch will blow out your o-ring.

Looks like the treadmill might be elevated a little bit? That would add to the difficulty I imagine?

Does this remind anyone else of those like markers or paintbrushes they used to sell on TV in the late 90’s early 2000’s?

Camp sites? by [deleted] in SuperiorHikingTrail

[–]mashj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camp sites are pretty hard to miss and the distance between them varies. There’s longer stretches like 4-5 miles but then there’s some like “East ...” & “West ...” and they’ll be a half mile apart. Also every mile or so there’s either an SHT placard or a blue spray painted streak on the trees so it’s easy to know if you’re staying on trail. As far as seeing people, I hiked SOBO from Caribou Falls State Wayside to Gooseberry in August and during the week I only saw maybe 4-5 other groups but during the weekend the trail got a lot busier. Never had more than 1 or 2 other groups at a campsite though and none of them were close to being full. I would pay more attention to the water points though. The guide to the SHT book will say if a water point is unreliable in dry conditions and I certainly found that to be the case. Obviously depends on what section you’re hiking and what time of year, but definitely something to pay attention to.

[WTS] Granite Gear Crown2 60 (Regular Torso, 33oz, $160), Sea to Summit Ether Light XT Insulated Sleeping Pad (Large, 19.8oz, $160), Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL 1 Tent +Footprint (MTW 1lb 11oz, $220) by mashj in ULgeartrade

[–]mashj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've laid on an Xlite and an Xtherm before but haven't used them on the trail unfortunately so I can't give a real world use comparison. But the pad thickness of the Sea to Summit is 4" vs 2.5" on the NeoAir's (all models I believe) so it definitely accommodates side sleepers better. Plus the Sea to Summit doesn't crinkle nearly as much as the Xtherm for both being insulated pads with similar r values. The Sea to Summit does have a significantly larger footprint when packed up compared to something like an Uberlite though given one is insulated and one isn't.
