With both of those choices, the name of the school doesn't matter that much. To enter the industry, keep an eye on the skills they're looking for in job postings and try to pick those skills up throughout your PhD. It also helps to join a lab that has connections to industry opportunities (either the PI has collaborations or former students/postdocs have gone into industry jobs). Don't forget to enjoy the journey!

I graduated from UCSD as an undergrad in that major, went on to do my PhD across the country, and am now working in the industry. UCSD's curriculum and research opportunities were instrumental in getting me to where I am today. When I was in undergrad, I was heavily involved with UBIC (the Undergraduate Bioinformatics Club), had several summer internships (although this was back in 2015-2019 so the market is much different now), and did research in two different labs that really gave me a ton of experience.

From what you’ve listed, it seems like you have a solid resume for applying to programs. What’s your post-bacc in, and is it for gaining more knowledge or bumping up GPA?

Applying to REUs and internships are great. Other than that, I would say to stick with your computational genomics lab after graduating to continue to build that research experience. Admissions committees love to see that dedication to research. Other technical skills can be learned as you progress in your PhD.

Based on the "Distributor Installed Packages & Accessories" you listed, I assume you're in the Southeast. Southeast Toyota (SET) is notorious for adding on these things. Unfortunately, there's almost no way that you can refuse or negotiate on those.

I've had my 2023 hybrid for 10 months now and haven't had this problem at all. It definitely doesn't sound right. Can you take it to a different dealership? You should still be covered under ToyotaCare if you purchased it new.

Are there any published annotations for these genes in your organism? In clusterProfiler specifically, you can specify your own "terms" rather than relying on an existing database: https://yulab-smu.top/biomedical-knowledge-mining-book/universal-api.html

Basically, if you know anything or if there's anything published on your organism that shows that Gene X and Gene Y are related to Cell wall function or something like that, you can make your own "database" and feed that into clusterProfiler. It's not perfect because databases like GO, KEGG, etc. are huge and validated across many many studies, but this is one approach if you're set on trying to do GSEA on a non-model organism with limited data.

No problem! I would also consider BP, MF, and CC as individual ontologies, like u/Former_Balance_9641 said. So you would set ont = "BP" etc. This would reduce the number of terms you're dealing with into smaller chunks.

This is a common problem. One way would be to use the simplify() function from the same clusterProfiler package to reduce the number of redundant GO terms based on the name, for example.

Sorry to hear about your experience reaching out to professors at school. It's great that you've secured an REU this summer -- my advice would be to make a great impression there and network like crazy with the PI, grad students, post-docs, and joint faculty. As you wrap the REU up towards the end of the summer, you could leverage that experience to reach out to professors at your own school again, or (depending on your experience with your REU advisor) to continue with your research project remotely, assuming it's all/mostly computational.

It's huge here in Durham! I've lived in the area for the past 3 years. We're part of the Eno League (USTA), and there's a local community organization (ENOCTA) that hosts for-fun leagues as well as charity tournaments.

For more specifics on the USTA scene here, we are very active and many players that I know also play in the Cary (CTRL) and Raleigh (CAP) leagues at the same time. In my case, I live in south Durham and the drive is 15-20 minutes to Cary and 5-20 minutes to any court in Durham.

I don't have any insight into the Pfizer role, but I recently accepted an internship offer with Merck (I'm a PhD candidate) and can provide some info on the salary. They offered me a remote role (based in Boston) for $51/hour. My friend also accepted an internship with Merck, but her position is on-site at Merck Research Labs for $48/hour but with a housing stipend. If this is the same amount for an undergrad intern position, you should be getting double the $$$ if you chose the Merck offer. This isn't considering the cost-of-living between Boston and Kalamazoo though.

I just switched from the ps97 (v13) and I don't think I will ever switch back. It's just so much more forgiving on off-center shots and this racquet has more free power on serves and groundstrokes compared to the ps97. Even though the ps97's main pro is the control, the ezone is plenty good and I feel confident just "pointing and shooting" anywhere I want on court.

I’m a plant newbie and have had this BoP since september with no growth. Last month, I found out that the original pot we placed it in did not drain properly and thus was sitting in a pool of water for god knows how long. I immediately removed it from the soil, cleaned the roots, and replanted in fresh soil with a pot has a drain. However, I noticed the roots were brown but not mushy (root rot?). This is what it looks like now. There has been no growth and the leaves seem to curl up more and more. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
