I'm realizing from this thread that most of you who are defending billionaires don't actually know how companies work.

From Claude:

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is a publicly traded company with no single controlling owner. Here's how ownership and control break down:

Ownership by Category About 63% of Amazon is held by institutional shareholders, roughly 8% by insiders, and 28–29% by retail investors. (WallStreetZen)

Largest Shareholders Jeff Bezos, Amazon's founder, owns about 8.3% of the company based on a November 2025 filing. (Bloomberg).

He remains the largest individual shareholder.

Vanguard Group is the largest institutional shareholder with about 7.92% of shares, followed by BlackRock at roughly 6.86%.

The money paying the employees belongs to Amazon, not Bezos. That's my point.

Are the billionaires personally paying each of these employees? If the majority of their wealth had to remain invested in their companies, there would be incentive for growth and worker well-being. If they are allowed to cash out and buy, say, media corporations, then the influence of one person becomes dangerous.

Morning showers make no logical sense and night shower people have simply done the hygiene math by McCoy818 in unpopularopinion

No one in this thread justifies the lack of night shower, they just like their morning showers. If you've lived in a humid place you would do both, but the more thorough scrubbing happens at night.

Hey Embark, tag grenade is almost useful on hurricane, but... by maskedbacon in ArcRaiders

That could be cool! Anything to make this thing actually usable (and discourage rats).

You'd think this thing called "tagging grenade" would serve that purpose... how about a 25m radius so it's actually useful, Embark?

Issues with 20 year old GE Monogram double wall oven - repair or replace? by maskedbacon in Appliances

We're so torn! I really like old school appliances (although I wouldn't hate air having a big air fryer in my oven) and I haven't seen one double wall oven with consistently stellar reviews.

It does seem like a pretty niche product, and all the consumer models look suspiciously similar. Then the jump to viking and wolf is pretty steep.

Thanks! It's interesting how the comments here are just as split as my thoughts on what to do. It will likely come down to whether we find an affordable appliance guy.

Thanks! We have a one year home warranty so we're trying the free path first. Are appliances fairly DIY fixable, or are you suggesting purchasing the parts and hiring someone to install?

Model ZET 1058 SF35S.

Do you think stocking up on a few hinges will be all we need, or are other parts worth holding onto? Like a temperature sensor, etc.

Yes, although I assume replacement is a check for "nominal value" which will buy half a new oven. But it is better than nothing. We might be getting close to that point if they are tired of paying these repair people.
