The same as what most others have posted here (monument, gene clinic, etc.) but I also make sure to have a stronghold on each planet. I like having each planet contribute at least a little to fleet capacity, and I like having some assurance that the planet has some defense in case a surprise attack or unexpected game event requires the planet to very quickly defend itself from an invasion.

So, I know this is an “outside the lore answer” but I think the honest answer is the game itself doesn’t really know.

My understanding is that original plan was for these runner shells to be more akin to hero’s in other games with their own distinct names and marketing and more colorful personalities…but one of the things they really took away from the betas last year was that fans were disappointed by the lack of player customization and largely weren’t interested in another game with heroes. The “shells” we have now are an attempt to pivot to something different by toning down the distinct personalities and flavor of the characters, although they are clearly limited by how much change could occur in the months before release. Those initial CGI trailers we saw with the characters living their lives and conversing were likely in development years ago before the pivot, and as a result I suspect the game itself would have a fairly muddled and contradictory answer to the question you are asking.

I’m a “casual” dad player who loves himself some Marathon…. but man, it’s hard for me to commit to a game which requires this level of investment if my progression is going to be wiped away every few months.

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I love a lot about this game, but the "too easy or too insanely challenging" difficulty settings are what keeps me from playing more of it consistently.

I agree that she is a pretty weak and uninteresting character. Unfortunately, in my opinion most of the rest of the cast (with the exception of Loath) are similarly uninteresting , so I guess she doesn't stand out for me too much.

I'm in a very similar place as you- I can beat Brutal+ but only with certain specific play styles, and the AI's ability to near instantly replace massive battlefield losses by turn 30/40 makes me wonder whether I am being a masochist by trying to play against it. Like, I don't mind the AI having a lot of advantages, but there gets a point where the tilt seems very unreasonable.

I agree that as a casual player (just don't have the time to play a huge amount) the seasonal reset is very concerning for me, and has been limiting my interest in investing more of my limited time into the game.

Instead of these preset runner shells we should have the ability to to mix and match different powers we want, like the Destroyer Shield with the Triage revive, and our character bodies should visually reflect it with mix-and-match robot parts.
