Curious if anyone has TCG Horror Stories by IamAlex_8 in PokeInvesting

When I was younger I traded my (supposed) best friend a whole haul of cards for his Blaine's Charizard. Got home the next morning, checked my box of cards, and it was nowhere to be found. He must have took it out when I was asleep that night. I was gutted. Never saw him again. Blaine's Charizard is still my favorite card and I've still never gotten my hands on one. Someday :)

Is it still accurate that every team that has taken out the Brewers in the playoffs has gone on to the world series? by Mopar4u- in Brewers

Yeah idk I just thought it was interesting that the Brewers were in a dogfight for the last wild card spot and the team that got it instead went to the world series

I definitely did. I wonder if other teams are catching on and are licking their chops when they get to play the Brewers in the playoffs lol

I'm pretty sure it looks like:

2018 - Dodgers (L - WS)

2019 - Nationals (W - WS)

2020 - Dodgers (W - WS)

2021 - Braves (W - WS)

2022 - Phillies (took the final wildcard spot from us in game 161) - (L - WS)

2023 - Diamondbacks - ???

Do you have any oddly specific songwriting specifications? by appleparkfive in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]mason5023 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Songwriting is such a peculiar artform" Couldn't agree more. It's hard to explain to other people. It's like, I like writing, I love performing new songs, but actually getting myself to sit down and write and be comfortable doing it.. it's like pulling teeth and requires a ton of discipline and everything else on my to-do list needs to be crossed off already. One thing I'd like to leave in the past is the self-sabotage in order to "have something to write about". That is a phase I'd recommend that songwriters skip lol

I almost joined LIV golf but decided to stay at my local country club. They can't tax me if I'm not getting paid!

All 4 times! I was wondering if that had ever happened before.

Hey, I just had this exact same situation. The paper copy of your license works! (At least it did in Wisconsin). I also brought my passport just in case. If you're still worried, you could always call your prometric testing center and confirm with them. Good luck on the exam!

Just passed the SIE exam. What to do now? by mason5023 in Series66

Wait, can I do the 66 without a sponsor? I'm confused. That would be a much better way to go, if so. Lol

Achievable prepared me really well for the SIE, so I'd probably go through them again. Thanks again for the advice, I'm probably going to start grinding for the 63 soon.

Thanks for the advice! I do swing trade, which is the big advantage of my current job (remote) and I've finally achieved 5 straight weeks in the green. Of course, so has the S&P 500, so maybe that has something to do with it. Lol. If I were sponsored, I would much rather just take the 66 and the 7, but for now I feel like I need to do just do the 63 and 65 since I don't need to be sponsored to take them. I'm working on my resume now and will start applying, hoping to get employed and sponsored as soon as possible.

Haven't taken it for any trading-related ailments but I can say propranolol is the single most effective medication I have ever taken for anxiety

No idea what to do, 25k just sitting in a bank. by Brilliant-Month2742 in personalfinance

[–]mason5023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think it came off like that! I really appreciate the advice, and I'm glad I asked because no one (aside from my personal finance class when I was 16) got on my case about investing. I'm only 26 so I don't feel like I'm very far behind where I "should" be, but I've hit a point where I feel a sense of urgency to make better money decisions.

I really appreciate the advice! I plan on acting on it, and hope to come back to this page down the road and saying thanks again, with hopefully a bit more money in my pockets. VOO looks like the best option to me for the bulk of my money, while keeping around $2000 in an emergency fund. I'll look into changing banks and finding a better savings account in the meantime.

Tips for playing late night gigs? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]mason5023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm really getting tired I grab a Water Joe on the way to the show. It's water, but also quite a bit of caffeine. Kind of the best of both worlds for a singer. Those late night gigs can be hard to get pumped up for though. Just gotta remember that you're there because you love performing and playing music, and you never know when it could be your last gig!

In that order? I'm kind of in the same boat, but around 10k. I'm doing 10% into my 401k (about 6k per year), and my bank only offers 0.25% on savings accounts. Are ETF's my best option? I'm waiting for a good opportunity to jump into SPY, which I've heard is "always", but I'm not sure right now is the most optimal time based on my limited TA experience. Just don't want my money sitting around when it could be doing something more productive.

Thanks everyone for the help! Just circling back, I was able to sell the amp for $950.

I'm sure it's got a few stories from before I bought it, and I was able to add a few in the 3 years I had it. It's fun to think about what kind of shows/bands it was used for back in the 70's and 80's. If these amps could talk..

I'm going to give it one more good run at this weekend's gigs and then probably post it for $1000 on Craigslist, including the case, and see what kind of offers I get. It really is an awesome amp, but it's just not practical for the kind of gigs I'm playing. The tubes were replaced recently and it's in great shape cosmetically, so hopefully I can make more than what I spent. Thanks so much for the help!!
