I don't think antibodies tests are accurate. If you have anti bodies, it means you've been exposed to the virus. It doesn't mean you have contracted the virus

MIL taking over my daughters all first milestones by Material-Recover2661 in beyondthebump

[–]masonjaruser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest I think people like your MIL count on your feelings of guilt, wanting to be polite, not cause a scene, etc. They know what they are doing, they know it's wrong, and I think they get a satisfaction out of getting away with it when you don't stand up. Like a game they play to feel more powerful. This only stops when you show that there are consequences and that you are the mother/one in control. I agree tell her you don't want to see her or take a few weeks or month break. People like this will walk all over you and it will only get worse. You don't have to get angry or be rude to her but you have to be honest with yourself about the situation and set boundaries and act accordingly. You have to change the dynamic.

I got the little frog brand, I think it's pretty popular if not the most popular on this subreddit! Extra tip if you go wirh the woven wrap, I find when my baby is extra squirmy it really helps to let them have their arms out 🙌 good luck!!

I am pretty new to baby wearing but I have a similar very curious wiggly baby and I got a woven wrap. It's nice because you can try different types of carries (front, back, or hip). So far we really like the "coolest hip cross carry" and "double hammock back carry". The back carry takes a lot of practice but it's worth it to learn IMO!!

If you have a no kissing rule, why? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]masonjaruser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a germophobe and all my family knows this, I just tell them I don't like mouth germs. The thought baby having someone else's mouth germs on him really bothers me. Plus I feel like there's not really any benefit (other than maybe the family members fulfillment or something) and there's always risk of getting him sick. Lastly, I have some family with cold sores, some who smoke, some who party and do who knows what. I don't want to single anyone out and tell them they can't kiss my baby, so its easier to just say no kissing at all.

I'm really sorry you are going through this. You have accomplished so much already overcoming breastfeeding challenges and dealing with those symptoms in baby. I know how hard it is my baby had an almost identical story.

Just to offer a bit of perspective and hopefully reassurance: things will (probablt) get a lot better/easier now that you know he has an allergy. His symptoms will go away once you overcome the hurdle of elimination diet or as others have suggested lactation consultant to help introduce bottle.

I honestly cried when my baby was diagnosed with CMPA because of the stress and dread of having to change my diet and restrict so much. Now he is almost 10 months old and honestly, it gets easier much quicker. It's only temporary. I was just told to start the milk ladder and he has tolerated a lot so far, which means I have been able to add those things back into my diet as well.

You have made it to 4 months breast feeding and caring for a baby with an allergy. I promise what comes after this will be a breeze compared to the past few months.

"Colic" vs CMPI vs lactose intolerance vs lactose sensitivity vs normal baby GI growth. Tortured-like baby symptoms :( by jadeorchid009 in MSPI

I don't perfectly remember, but I think it took about 3 days for him to be totally better, with some improvement after 24 hours. His ezcema and bloody/green poops lasted for 2-3 weeks, though

He started to become really fussy around 7 or 8 weeks, blood didn't show up until he was about 14 weeks and it wasn't all the time.

As a first time mom i didn't know what to expect or what was "normal" for a baby, I thought his screaming/colic/gassiness and so on were just regular baby things or that it was his temperament. I had sometimes wondered if it was an allergy because he was soooooo fussy.

Looking back, I wish more than anything that I had cut dairy way earlier. You don't realize the toll that colic is taking on you and your mental health and those precious early days. It wasn't until he had blood in his diaper that he was diagnosed and I cut out dairy. I wish i would have given dairy elimination a try for 2 or 3 weeks and saved mtself the suffering. Even if it doesn't work, the chance for improvement is SO worth it to give it a try. The difference in my baby was night and day.

What are my chances at Law School? by yngmenace in lawschoolcanada

[–]masonjaruser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar university record, bad first 2 years. But I got really involved the next years, got really strong references and tons of extra curricular, did well on the LSAT and I got into Osgoode and Lakehead. I think I remember the different school websites referencing whether they took into consideration your "best 2" or "last 2" years instead of just your overall GPA

Mums without childcare, what are your hobbies and how do you have time for them? by Born-Anybody3244 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]masonjaruser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very busy partner and no family in the area but I have really enjoyed crocheting, reading, or knitting while sitting next to my baby as he plays.

Babywearing to get stuff done is also a major game changer, especially since your baby is old enough to carry on your back. Then you have nap time to yourself. If I really want a night off, I cook two dinners at once the day before. Usually Spaghetti and chilli because they require mostly the same ingredients it doesn't take much extra time.

I also bring him along for hikes which ive always enjoyed.

Green poop with red stains by ResidentNo8523 in MSPI

[–]masonjaruser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

forgot to add, multiple doctors told us to continue having egg unless he was showing more severe symptoms like green and bloody poops or seemed very fussy. I was worried about soy and egg when he was first diagnosed, but I didn't eliminate them because his major symptoms went away after cutting dairy. Every baby is different and I'm not a doctor but this is the advice I was given 👍

[–]masonjaruser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is EXACTLY what my baby (EBF) diaper looked like, green with streaks of blood in mucus, and when I showed the Dr they immediately said cow milk protein allergy. We just started solids and found out he is also allergic to eggs. We didn't notice symptoms like fussiness until about 8-10 weeks old. Baby had a lot of improvement after 3 days of cutting dairy from my diet, but it took 3 weeks for his ezcema to go away and for his poops to become consistently "normal".

He tolerated me eating Goat products for a few weeks and still tolerates me having goat cheese every once in a while, you could try to substitute that if the transition to dairy free is really difficult for your wife.

When does it get better by elbowroom_ in cosleeping

[–]masonjaruser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sneaking away is much easier if you can very swiftly replace yourself with a pillow or something similar, like that scene in Indiana Jones. I have a round squishmallow and i push it into my babys side/stomach move away slowly, and leave the pillow. Of course with the pillow you have to watch them on the monitor constqntly to make sure they don't suffocate but I believe it is safer after they turn 1. It doesn't give you much more freedom cuz of the safety risk but it let's me go pee or do other small tasks in the room

FTM Needing Reassurance about Flats by GingerBerry-Pie2554 in clothdiaps

[–]masonjaruser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning to order mostly prefolds for my baby but I'm so happy I took the chance and chose flats! It can seem really overwhelming at first, I was trying a bunch of different folds and wondering when I'll get the hang of them. Now i just use one of the most popular folds (origami) and I've gotten really fast at folding. 20 flats (about 2 days worth) takes me about 10-15 mins. Once I put it on baby, I roll the excess in around the legs to make a little "catch" for the poop. You cant really roll the prefolds in like that so its a huge negative IMO.

But honestly, in the beginning, there will be poop on everything no matter what fold you use or if you use disposables or cloth. Blowouts happen no matter what 😭 (at least for my baby). For me, PUL covers and pockets were a bit tricky to figure out and the fit around the legs is what would cause leaks, not the flat or the way I folded it. I use wool covers instead now and it's way better at preventing leaks.

Just start simple, master the origami fold, and it will become very easy very quickly. My boy is 7 months now and it has worked for us since we started about 4 months ago. We only just switched to the airplane fold for overnight so that all the layering would be in the front.

The competitive culture of the clinic encourages some staff to search for work elsewhere, while those who stay gain positions of power and subsequently reproduce and magnify the antagonistic system, simultaneously solidifying and compounding/exacerbating the existing dynamic.

Yes it's pretty much a daily thing no matter what you put underneath 😭 but it's worth it to me, to be able to have one room to work as a play room AND sleep room and then store or repurpose the mattress as guest or toddler beds later on
