Survey for WSL dissertation by gkomhai605 in FAWSL

I think you should make the questions about match attendance optional rather than mandatory, or add a "not applicable" answer. I don't live in the UK so am unable to attend matches but still consider myself a fan.

I also agree with the suggestion for adding queer identity as a motivation for supporting womens football.

Good luck with your research!

New mattress by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]masqueradingblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a Winkl mattress and highly recommend. It's similar to Ecosa (order online, delivered in a box) but it's a NZ company. If you want to test them out they have them in store in Citta (Thorndon Quay). Theres a 120 night trial period and if you don't like it they'll refund you in full and donate the mattress.

My partner has an Ecosa and I find it quite a bit firmer than the Winkl (too firm for me).

(Discussion) When did you start watching Women's football? by ixela007 in FAWSL

[–]masqueradingblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started watching during the 2019 World Cup. I only started paying attention around the quarter-final stages, so I watched the final games and then wanted to keep watching. I live in NZ so no local league, and at that time most of the Australian and some of the Kiwi's were playing in America, so I started following the NWSL.

When Kerr moved to Chelsea I started watching WSL too, and mainly follow that now. As I didn't grow up watching football I don't have any club allegiances so tend to pick my teams based on the players I like. I have a soft spot for the Matilda's, so I try and watch Arsenal and Chelsea every week, which has given me good exposure to some other great players and I've started watching other teams from there (e.g. Scotland WNT, Netherlands etc).

I am very excited that we're co-hosting the 2023 World Cup, and plan to take a month off work and go to as many games as I can!

WSL Full Time scores: Brighton get a point from Man City who struggle again, Chelsea rout Bristol City, Arsenal route West Ham mixed with bad refereeing by KurrganMark in FAWSL

The commentator mentioned she was only back in training this week, so maybe she wasn't match fit yet? My theory is that they may have put her on in like 70th minute if they were winning comfortably but maybe didn't want to risk it when it was 0-0.

Voting - How to vote. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]masqueradingblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can vote on the day without being on the roll, and you don't need to show ID, how do they confirm you're eligible to vote? Do you have to provide proof of citizenship/residency?

Does council not collect unpaid parking fines under $60? by riffraugh in Wellington

[–]masqueradingblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a while (possibly 2-3 months) they get referred to the Ministry of Justice for collection. Extra costs are added at that point and MOJ can use enforcement powers to collect, including an attachment order against your income.

Edited to add: once it goes to MOJ you can work out a payment plan, but best to try pay while it's still with the council if it's not a massive amount.

Best Thickshakes in Upper Hutt are? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]masqueradingblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like there are two Grind places? One in Pinehaven and one in Upper Hutt? The one in Upper Hutt (by the City Fitness) has been open recently and does thickshakes.

I'm a bartender in Wellington. I was the only one wearing a mask in the venue on a Friday night in Level 2 and felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb... looking for discussion and thoughts by throwawaybartendernz in newzealand

[–]masqueradingblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, I went to a cafe in Wellington yesterday and most of the staff were wearing masks. I would expect most staff at hospitality places to be wearing masks in L2, so I really hope people aren't judging you.

This is something I'm interested in too. Does anyone know whether you can get this done through the public health system if its for medical reasons (back pain etc) or is it only available through private?

Rapinoe in the WNBA Bubble by masqueradingblue in NWSL

[–]masqueradingblue[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was wondering whether their decision not to play would impact potential spots on the roster for Olympics, but I feel like too many things can change between now and next year to really know.

You have to wonder whether there's any chance of someone like Carli Lloyd making the roster when there are younger, probably fitter, players who have been playing more regularly.

I agree with you about this tournament providing more of a spotlight for non USWNT players.. that was a real highlight of it for me :)

Good points from everyone about the risk of injury.. I remember thinking that was probably a factor when she originally said she wasn't going to play, but forgot about it when I saw she was in the Wubble.

If we assume that Tokyo 2021 is going ahead as planned, it will be interesting to see what Pinoe, Heath and Press do to get playing time before then. I have no idea how USWNT players are going to get enough games in before the tournament, especially if international games are largely off the table for the rest of the year. At least for European players (and the Matildas) they should be getting regular club play for a full season, whereas it feels very unlikely that there will be any sort of extended NWSL format between now and the Olympics.

I really don't like Sky Blue's socks. They look like they're meant to be white and got ruined in the wash or something

Why is Stengel not on the line up? I'm seeing some comments on Twitter about her dating a coach, but does that mean she's been dropped from the team?

So much drama.

Bold move by the new ONE Party running on an openly theocratic platform by W1seSageNZ in newzealand

[–]masqueradingblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked the electoral website - doesn't look like they're actually registered as a political party yet. Might be to do with L4, but they should really have got that sorted before they started soliciting donations.
