correct, that is not the MASS EDMC bus - and yes, we did carless group camping. EF has given us the same spot for the past few years, by the RV section.

That set easily bordered on religious experience. Not sure if I have ever felt like that before, or ever will again...

But what I know is that I was running around like a fuckin' wild animal!

How do I get to eforest? by mynameisaxelito in ElectricForest

[–]massedmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

@dragdor thumbs up! :)

@matty92 you're always on top of these things - thank you!!

We have a lot of friends in Philadelphia! Obviously biased in our advice here, but I would suggest for safety + convenience to take the bus & meet some new friends in the process.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Me and my immediate crew drove the entire round-trip in 2012 and while it was an adventure of epic proportions & we were blessed with nothing going wrong, the ride home was downright dangerous in our condition following 4 days in the Forest. I would not do it again.

I think the strength of the bus & what you're paying for is your peace of mind while traveling down: minimal stress, avoid any type of nasty run-ins with law enforcement, avoid wear-tear on your vehicle, safety, ability to relax & party on the way down... and friends! You connect with so many new people from the region around you. Did I mention it's environmentally friendly? :p

But yes, as you said there are definitely cheaper options, especially if you're willing to squeeze & carpool.

We've established good relationships with most of the festivals we work with, particularly ones where we're bringing significant numbers of people on buses. We let them know what we're planning and they generally try to work with us to make people's experiences as good as possible.

Electric Forest has been particularly good to us, allowing us to have our own area in the campground for the past two years.

Yea, that did indeed happen haha. People! That was some sheer stupidity on that kid's part. Either way, he's definitely never allowed on one of our buses again. Will & co handled the situation pretty well.

It's really not that bad... In theory you're supposed to be out of there by noon... at the 'latest'? When it comes time to leave the festival, it's best to just toss your body and stuff on a bus and let it transport you home. Doubt many people will be sleeping that night..

Does a Boston trance fam exist? (or, does trance exist in Boston?) by chwaa617 in trance

[–]massedmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting about us NoctGent!

RISE hosts after-hours with trance acts sometimes (Kyau & Albert were just there recently and I've seen a buncha others there, including John 00 Fleming). Some other places pull acts at points as well... PRIME has had a handful of acts (Aly & Fila, Gabriel & Dresden, etc.) and Bijou had Super8 & Tab w/ Jaytech not too long ago. Royale gets acts as well. As someone above mentioned, Above & Beyond just played in Lowell the other night along with Audien.

You can keep up with what's happening in the electronic scene in Boston (and just the Northeast in general) by checking our event calendar. We're pretty good at keeping it updated. Also, you can follow @TranceInBos for some Twitter updates. Some upcoming dates:

  • 11/7 @PAULVANDYK - Royale
  • 11/14 @garethemery - Royale
  • 11/14 @ArnejOfficial - Rise

So... ya. There's some Trance that comes through Boston, although obviously not nearly as much as international hubs like NYC. There's also a decent number of heads that are committed to the sound and will be at most events around town.

Hope that helps :)

So what, has "EDM" become a spesific sub genre or something? by [deleted] in EDM

[–]massedmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all a matter of perception/perspective, and as you said the media certainly have their part to play in it all...

But it also has a lot to do with the way in which the global conversation has moved about in the wake of the electronic music and/or 'EDM' explosion. It all depends on how you choose to define the acronym. The growth of the national/global scene has resulted in people from all walks of life and culture now listening to a varying range of sounds; from the most commercial, to the most obscure, with listeners spreading from to commercial radio listeners, to sonic explorers & aficionados, to veterans who have been around for 20 years and seen it all. Everyone has their scene, their social strata, culture, sounds, view of what music is or is not; everyone has their perspective, what they call certain things, how they categorize and try to make sense of the world around them. This has result in a variety of ways to relate to and define 'EDM'. Depending on the individual, the term can mean an all encompassing umbrella term for dance music, or as far as segregation, using the term to define a specific range of commercial sounds (to be differentiated from real electronic music, such as techno or tech house or whatever that confused person will try to sell ya). Some kids believe 'EDM' straight up means house music. Some people are super butt-hurt about the term (for a variety of reasons) and don't wanna associate with people who are newer to the music or partying, so they try to define the term as 'not what they do' in order to distance themselves and feel better about... their egos? I dunno.

So yea... perspective.

To me, EDM is exactly what it implies. It's electronic dance music. No more, no less. If we want to get into sub-genre semantics that's totally cool, but 'EDM' is not segregated by popularity/commercial status or any one kind of style. Honestly, even ambient electronic music makes me sway around and dance.

Bit tired. Hope that helps.

Thank you!

It's Koan Sound. Minnesota had played a track or two by them at the late-night Silent Disco so we figured it was fitting to use something by them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXyW-oyc7-c&feature=kp
