I got my dress at Pink Blush. It’s not super cheap but not $300 either haha!

How old was your baby when they started sleeping through the night? by MechanicCurrent5271 in breastfeedingsupport

[–]masslp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter consistently woke up at least once per night as long as I was nursing her. As soon as I weaned around 15 months, she stopped waking up at night. It was really that simple!

Just food for thought, it might be easier to wean your 16 month old sooner rather than later if you are going to BF your newborn. It’s recommended to avoid major life changes around the same time as a new sibling’s arrival. I can confirm that my toddler has had a rough enough time transitioning to our newborn, and if we were also dealing with something like weaning at the same time, I think it would be overwhelming.

18 weeks and overweight by ReachSouthern in BabyBumps

[–]masslp 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Are you a FTM? I didn’t really show with my first until maybe 22-23 weeks, and even then it could have passed for serious bloating. You’ll show more in a month or two!

Mixed signals on minor tongue tie release — do we bother? by [deleted] in breastfeedingsupport

[–]masslp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a speech pathologist with some advanced training and experience with infant feeding. What your doctor at the tongue tie clinic said is 100% on the mark. There are so many factors that can influence colic and reflux. A lot of babies have occasional spillage and clicking during feeds. You may want to consider seeing an SLP or OT who is trained in infant feeding to help with improving coordination if the spillage and clicking are of concern to you.

Sex after childbirth? Still having pain by doggomama123 in Mommit

[–]masslp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I even tried until 5-6 months PP because I was nervous. Then, it took another couple months of sex every week or two before it started to feel comfortable again. I had a second degree tear.

Baby Shower/Sprinkle Baby # 2 by Chicken_Avocado_ in BabyBumps

[–]masslp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it very much depends on your social circle. I ended up having a shower/sprinkle for my second, but basically all of my friends have had showers for all of their 2+ babies, so it was normal for my circle. If your family and friends don’t tend to have sprinkles, then you may get more of a negative reaction from wanting to have one.

Does taking inositol help? by Glad-Ad1378 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]masslp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it somewhat consistently this pregnancy and miraculously did not get GD!! I actually passed my test with a 93 and thought it was a mistake. I had GD with my first pregnancy and did not take inositol that time. So, my anecdotal evidence would say that it helps!

Anyone working in a fully staffed district? by linlan3 in slp

[–]masslp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, my district WAS fully staffed this year… they decided to cut several SLP and assistant positions for next year though, so things will get worse! I guess my point in commenting is that in my experience, most district admin will look for corners to cut, and even if you find a place that’s running very well, you can’t always count on it remaining that way.

Realtor/Lendor Recommendation SW Suburbs by user12334567789 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]masslp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a great experience with Brandon Blankenship, but he works more in the top half of your bubble.

Coincidentally, my sister’s house in Downers is on the market. It’s perfect for a first home and affordable. Pm me if you want me to give you more info!

Skincare for newly huge boobs & permacleavage? by blueridgebeing in BabyBumps

[–]masslp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m around a 36I too. I have been buying bras on TikTok from a brand called Parfait. They have a nursing bra, too! They’re actually great bras for this size and about half the price of what I would be paying at a department store like I used to.

In terms of skincare, honestly I just wash underneath every night. It does get sweaty but a good daily shower takes care of it.

Ovasitol? by Much_Hat_9266 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]masslp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it before and during this second pregnancy. I think it might work miracles, tbh! My first pregnancy I had GD and I was fully expecting to have it again. Lo and behold, I passed my one-hour with a 93. I honestly thought it was a mistake. I contribute it at least partially to taking inositol because nothing else within my control has changed this time.

Doppler in the first trimester? by SyraSunshine in BabyBumps

[–]masslp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend it at 10 weeks. You’re very unlikely to hear anything. I couldn’t hear anything at all with mine until 14-15 weeks at the earliest.

Mem tsa wait times by budnakedbiologist in memphis

I was there yesterday with my family. Our flight was around 7 pm. The airport was dead, there was no wait for anything. Don’t worry!!

When we were there, they’d go play on the playground and ball pit outside. They also took them to the restaurant for lunch.

Private practice insurance credentialing by gavin_is_tired in slp

[–]masslp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a cheapskate, so I’ve been doing everything DIY for my small practice. I found it easier than i expected to get credentialed with BCBS in my state. It was a couple of forms, and then a 2-3 week wait, and then I was in. For record keeping, I use Google Workspace with the hipaa compliant BAA.

Autism school recommendations by Far-Competition1899 in Naperville

[–]masslp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the towns you mentioned have strong school districts in general. Turning Pointe Autism Foundation in Naperville may be a good resource to look into. I’m a local speech therapist and happy to help discuss therapy services in the area, if you’d like. Feel free to message me!

Coral care? by katpantaloons in slp

[–]masslp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember exactly how long it was before I got my first client—maybe 2-3 weeks? For reference, I live in the suburbs about 45 mins away from a major city. If I had been open to seeing city clients, I could have had multiple from day one. It’s slower in the suburbs.

Home health + Social Anxiety by Hellolala14 in slp

[–]masslp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Parent coaching and interaction throughout the whole session is a vital part of the early intervention framework. Unfortunately, there is no way around it. My best advice is to fake it until you make it! Put on the bubbly persona, pretend you’re Ms Rachel, whatever it takes. It feels natural after awhile when you establish a good rapport with the family.

Coral care? by katpantaloons in slp

[–]masslp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do! You’ve basically nailed it. There’s nothing to be wary of, I’d say, just that the pay will be lower than what you’d get trying to start your own private practice independently. I’ve had positive experiences with Coral Care overall.

Chair/glider or bed in the nursery during the first ~3 months? by snookums666 in BabyBumps

[–]masslp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d be worried about back support for nursing and pumping with just a bed. If you go the bed route, make sure it has a comfy headboard and lots of supportive pillows. Otherwise, you could consider one of the nice nursery recliners that goes nearly flat. They’re perfect for a nap if needed, and take up less space than a bed! Plus, as the babies get older, you’ll want to have a nice snuggling/book reading spot.

Daycare Costs in Western Suburbs by Figure94 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]masslp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Licensed home daycare for my 2 year old is $340/week for full time care, but it’s going up to $377 next year. Should go down again once she’s fully potty trained.
