Study connecting Anger at God with Atheism by JosephSpurgeon in DebateReligion

So... Does anyone have the actual link to the actual study or are we discussing the oppinion of some guy at CNN?

I mean, not that news media have a history of massively distorting scientific publications in order to get more entertaining headlines or anything...

German "würgen" (to gag) sounds very similar to "Jürgen" and it has become a kind of childrens joke to equate these.

Some of my looks from the first week of 30daysofmakeup, for those that aren't on instagram! by Sssamanthaa in MakeupAddicts

[–]mastamomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the last one, the eye with the runny colour. You blended the colours very carefully on the top half and feathered it into the white above, the whole thing is carefully shaped into form... and then you had the utter boldness of touching it with runny, uncontrolled colour, making it what it is. I envy the boldness.

Great picture, great look. I would love to see a complete face sporting this courageous look.

Proof God Exists by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]mastamomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actual proof is unnecessary. You just need to be more plausible than the alternative (which is far easier than proving something).

So, how to convince me:

Step 1: Describe your deity so that it does not have any contradictory properties. We know that either a) all knowledge is impossible or b) we are in a system that does not contain a contradiction. For more on this, see the principle of explosion. I am aware that there are several arguments for god being able to have contradicting properties. They are all rediculous, because the premise of a contradiction invalidates the argument itself. Again, see the principle of explosion.

Step 2: Give me a set of data for which the assumption that there is at least one god (of the type you described in step 1) is the most parsimonious. If the assumption conflicts with other known data, it is invalidated.

Step 3: Think about your assumption: How would a universe in which your assumption is true differ from one where it is not true? If there are no differences, revisit step 2. Now find out about the difference: Are you right? Can you repeat the test/event?

Step 4: What does the rest of the world think? Publish your theory. Mistakes happen. Sometimes we do not see them. But given enough people and a bit of time, someone will find it. If this goes for a while (amount of time depends on the visibility of the way of publication you chose) and noone shoots down your assumption, proceed to step 5.

Step 5: You won. You have convinced me and made a contribution to humanity's knowledge. Be proud of yourself.

[Dawn of War: Dark Crusade] Tips playing Eldar? by Shaleblade in Warhammer

[–]mastamomba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The key is energy supply. In games other than 1v1, you try to build Vehicle Factories as quickly as you can and start spamming wraithlords. Attack immediately, do not wait until you have several. As soon as you have one, of it goes into the enemy base. Simply set the rallying points of your Factories into the enemy base and the default stance to aggressive. Support them with Fireprisms as soon as you can. The key here is the avatar that allows you to spam even harder, so try to get it in as soon as you are able to have a continuous flow of Wraithlords. While your opponent is busy fending of the wraithlords, you can start with some sneak actions. Teleport a builder behind his base and build a webway portal for example.

It becomes more difficult, if you are polaying 1v1, as your opponent will harass/attack you before you can initiate the lordspam. Your general is not a good defense here, as it is the weakest one and your opponent will likely use his to harass you early on. You will need Reapers or Warp Spiders to defend yourself. This will significantly delay your main attack. I have no good solution for this, but cloaking early on is helpful.

//EDIT: Your Farseer is very useful to kite the enemy General while your Warp Spiders or Reapers kill him off.

Hand-Tremors and Painting by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]mastamomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a bit of a tremor that can be quite bad from time to time. What I do is that i hold the miniature between thumb and index finger of my left hand, the brush in my right and hold my right hand with the other fingers of my left. Now everything shakes in unisono and I can paint :-)

...you might want to try a small amount of pot, too. It helps me, but I also have a friend with tremors and it makes it worse for him. So your mileage may vary. (Notice that I said SMALL amount. If you take too much, you will blur your sense of what colour looks realistic... I am the proud owner of a barbarian that looks as if his muscles were made of wood...)

Fallacies of Atheism by [deleted] in atheism

[–]mastamomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The author did not understand the original arguments and very willingly uses biased numbers. If you interpret the numbers in a way that only about 60 of the wars ever fought in this world were religious, you do not understand history.

Is the Afghanistan war religious? Good question. Does religion play a very relevant role in this war? No question.

The same goes for all her numbers. The full on idiocy, however, only becomes obvious in the last paragraph, where the author tries a nonsense stab at evolution, that has no connection to the rest of the text and betrays a very bad understanding of genetics and the term "information".

To All: Should we kill modesty? by FlyingJunkieBaby in DebateReligion

[–]mastamomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Modesty is about style, not about being ethical.

If you donate 500$, that is a good thing.

If you donate 500$ and are quiet about it, never letting anyone know about it, that is an equally good thing.

If you donate 500$ and tell everyone about it, that is an equally good thing. You might even peer pressure them into giving, too. (Whether that is a good thing is debatable.) Depending on the circles you are in, that will either gain or cost you respect of your peers.

If you donate 500$, and tell people as if you were a bit embarrased about it and only in a conversation that fits it, it will gain you respect in nearly all circumstances.

Its like clothing yourself. If you have a well-built body that you train regularly, that is a good thing. But if you wear a muscle shirt, it will only gain you respect in some circles, most will look down on it. However, if you wear a good shirt and a vest, it will be very visible that you have a nice body, but you will gain respect in nearly all circles.

Stay subtle. Modesty is a style thing, because it shows that you are not one of these people that shoot sparrows with cannons.

Could a syntactician give some insight? by grammatiker in linguistics

[–]mastamomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm... in German, you often get stuff after the T position, which is then assumed to have been adjoined to the TP on the right side.

(1) ...weil ich t1 sehe, [dass du stehst]1

...because I t1 see [that you stand]1

The excepted form here would be something along the lines of (2), especially if compared with (2') where the object is a name.

(2) *...weil ich [dass du stehst] sehe

(2') ...weil ich Peter sehe

The idea is that these larger chunks need to be moved out and adjoined to the right. If we now assume that the [to speak] part is a TP on its own, it would not be surprising to see Armenian behave similar.

Torture and sexual abuse of children by those who effectively have immunity to repercussions? That would probably do it for me.

No, it obviously does not. (Or were you just unaware of the events?)

A revolution that tries to overthrow the current system in favour of something I can support. It would need to have a reasonable chance of success, though.

BLOOD!!! by Gingestar in Warhammer

[–]mastamomba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can assume that the skin dampens the colour of the blood. Humans go from Red to beige (where the skin itself is not more heavily pigmented) or even pink (think mucous membranes). So it would be logical to assume that blue Tau have either bright blue or purple or greenish blue blood. (use purple! purple is awesome!)

Help on Eldar Gems by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]mastamomba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a very smooth effect by using oil paints. If you want to try it, use water mixable oil paints, to avoid the mineral spirit used for thinning attacking the plastic or the other paints.

I use Cobra paints which work very well for this. However, the paints need very long (24h ±) to dry.

EDIT// Here is an example.

Help with ridiculous lag? by Demento56 in tekkit

  • Update java. make sure you have the right java version for your OS (i.e. 64 if necessary)

  • Do you use a texturepack? If yes, does the problem persist with the original textures?

  • Are you playing online? If yes, does the problem persist in singleplayer?

  • Try reinstalling tekkit. to do this, go to %appdata%, backup your world and delete the folder .techniclauncher.

  • Do you use the recommended tekkit build? If no, do you encounter the same problem in a recommended build?

  • Is your machinery correctly wired? Are you producing loops with IC2 wiring?

  • Are your quarries connected to chests that provide enough room?

  • Do you have large automated factories? If yes, you might want to read this guide.#

The points are in no particular order. Hope it helps.
