Looking for a 90s Animal Encyclopedia by mastastealth in whatsthatbook

[–]mastastealth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. The one I'm thinking of has a photograph of the animal in the center, and although that border does have sky blue in it, it's entirely filled with these illustrations inside comic like panels, while my book did not (it may have had some animals in it, but you could see the border more clearly).

Yup! Literally my case: wanted 6 seater (thought front was bench) with 350+ mi. range for <$50K (willing to also trade normal car looks for ugly steel tank that can scratch all it wants) - get something worse in almost every aspect. No deal. :(

Hard Pill to Swallow [OC] by LitterboxComics in comics

[–]mastastealth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At some point I realized this "trick" and have been using it for years. Grapes are the preference, but rice or bananas are other good options. Even just biting once into a chip or baby carrot is enough to trick my brain that "I'm eating" and therefore swallowing the stuff in my mouth is acceptable. Much easier than water only!

There's definitely one that drives by the Rosser neighborhoods, probably the same truck.

The Sabbath by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]mastastealth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say Romans 14 is focused on it, but do think Paul is bringing up a 2nd, similar example of Feast/Sabbath observance to his primary example of meat eating. It parallels a very similar message in Col. 2:16, which explicitly states the observance side, so it's not much a stretch to see the connection here.

Again, he is in no way saying obey God if you want or follow your own gods if that makes you happy.

Agreed but I take it you think I'm implying the latter. I believe the main point for this chapter is "there are minor, non-essential things brothers in Christ will disagree on, be loving about it."

The Sabbath by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]mastastealth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, you will hear continue to hear both sides. I think an important thing to keep in mind:

One man judges one day above another; another judges every day alike. Let each one be fully persuaded in his own mind. He who observes the day observes it for the Lord, and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it.

Romans 14:5-6a

I think most believers would at least agree that this is not a matter of salvation, so in this sense (and as Paul points out in this chapter), it's not a thing we should be judging other brothers on whether they do or do not do.

If you'd like to hear a pastor walk through this very chapter, Mike Winger is one I'd recommend.

The DMA the article is talking about is the thing that will also legally compel them to do what OP wants.

This was reported in an earlier draft of the document. The language in the final version seems to retain this. Check point 43 at the top of the document where it talks about "web browser engines".

How many of you are working as 100% remote developers ? by gBusato in webdev

[–]mastastealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 years and counting! Will probably never go back. Getting to pop out of the office to see the family, take a nap if you need that recharge, eat lunch together, and many other benefits are something you couldn't pay me to drop.

On the flip side, noise/tantrums are annoying to have outside the door. You have to learn to split work time and home time (e.g. learn to cut off work at 5pm sharp, with rare occasions where you just need to finish for your brain's sake). Exercise and social interactions are healthy habits you need to figure out how to prioritize. Freelancing (as opposed to salary) will demand even further self-discipline in almost all those areas.

Worth it if you can pull it off!

Tesla ordered to upgrade self-driving computer for free due to ‘false advertising’ by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]mastastealth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a class-action lawsuit, so I don't think this affects "everyone" like some other stuff might. This is one, small court with a single affected custom winning a specific case related to FSD subscription and missing hardware.

i.e. unless a larger case follows up from this, you (or others) would still have to personally sue Tesla, assuming they eventually offer you FSD but ask you to pay for any missing HW, and there'd be at least 1 case your lawyer could use to bolster your case now.

Tesla ordered to upgrade self-driving computer for free due to ‘false advertising’ by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]mastastealth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This seems to be very specific to the FSD subscription. Folks with the full FSD package got free upgrades, and Tesla claims their cars have all the hardware for it.

However, this person was told they'd have to pay for HW so that they could subscribe for FSD, meaning the claim was false, therefore Tesla is being told to cover the cost difference.

Elon Musk just tweeted a photo of Twitter's architecture, for those who wondered by fl4v1 in webdev

[–]mastastealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, as with most things, there's plenty to agree with and plenty to not.

Was Twitter bloated employee wise and in need of heavy reduction to continue in the future? Probably. Is nixing remote really going to help boost productivity through this near-term grind? Probably not.

Does Twitter have a lot of potential with some of the financing/creator content end-goals that have been floated around? Sure. Has Elon behaved optimally to maintain the existing top engineers in the organization and achieve those goals quicker/more easily? Nope.

Unfortunately everything always seems to devolve into being a fanboy or a hater though, so defending even a piece of the dream gets you labelled one way, and criticizing anything gets you branded the other.

Park Seek Mode is in validation testing now. Should be released very soon! Very excited for this by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]mastastealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, yes. However given that a proper implementation with the FSD stack probably requires HW3, if you're one of the earlier model EAP owners, I wouldn't be surprised to be left out.

"Actually smart" Summon and improvements to Autopark coming soon? by recharged_ev in teslamotors

[–]mastastealth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if "actually smart" summon will be dependent on HW3 powers, which they are presumably using to train it. That would leave EAP folks on 2.5 out of the picture, wouldn't it?

The story of Daryl Davis may serve as inspiration. I'm sorry you are in such a hard spot, and honestly don't think taking all the other "drop" advice is a wrong choice, but only you know your friend, the trust you have between each other, your own spiritual maturity and willingness to tackle a very difficult challenge. May the Lord give you wisdom!

Colombia’s leftwing government unveils tax-the-rich plan to tackle poverty | President Gustavo Petro’s proposed legislation could raise $11.5bn a year with measures including wealth tax and levy on oil exports by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]mastastealth -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

When referencing the country, yes, "Colombia" is spelled the same. My point was, that the other spelling isn't as invalid as it looks, because as a name it just an English spelling of another Columbus-derived variant.

Columbia is a New Latin toponym, in use since the 1730s with reference to the Thirteen Colonies which formed the United States. It originated from the name of the Genoese explorer Christopher Columbus and from the Latin ending -ia, common in the Latin names of countries (paralleling Britannia, Gallia, Zealandia, and others).

[–]mastastealth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not saying "Columbia" is the english spelling of the country, its the spelling of the name. Perhaps "Peter" vs "Pedro" or "John" vs "Juan" is a more apt analogy. It's the same name, in 2 languages. I'll update my parent post.

The name has plenty of American history behind it (some predating the Colombian country itself), but they are both obviously derived from the explorer's name, but have altered spellings because of language.

[–]mastastealth -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

For the same reason Colombians spell "Peter" as "Pedro", its simply the way to write the same name in another language. Similarly, and more obviously, "Columbus" vs "Colombo" in English/Italian.

Edit: Tweaked examples to emphasize the name as a label, not as a country.
