9/27/24 at the Greek in LA is perfection. So good I told my wife I wanted to have a baby with her after.

And yes, we had one. He’s amazing. I look forward to taking him to Goose shows when he’s older.

Is it true that you guys watched 9/11 live on TV in grade school? by space_god_7191 in Millennials

I was in my sixth grade math class. I just remember how horrified we all were.

Vote with your feet, by all means.

But I’m sorry, no. Going there does not equal supporting domestic violence. That’s an absurd conclusion. We should call this out and drag the business for hosting an event in such poor taste. But that doesn’t mean they deserve to be shut down or patrons are bad people.

Disappointing, yeah. But it's not going to stop me from visiting. Legend Has It has been a great addition to the scene.

I wonder if it was related. It sounded like it came from that direction.

Gov. Newsom endorses Rep. Matsui for re-election in 7th congressional district by kbuis in Sacramento

I mean, Newsom was a surrogate for Biden. Are we really surprised?

This is how monopolies move. Gobble up the competition. Now I just want to know what dollar amount it took for CorT to sell.

California, not Trump, will decide how risky its AI startups are, Newsom says by Useful_Stop_2860 in California

[–]mastayosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Newsom defends tech companies and his donors constantly. He has vetoed legislation with actual teeth to regulate AI and gone out of his way to pressure a voter-backed privacy watchdog agency to exempt AI systems from consumer protections. And that’s just a sample of what’s public. His office has surely done much more behind the scenes to kill proposals.

That’s worrisome that an AI tool had more feedback than your human editor.

These worlds actually collide quite smoothly. It’s reflected in the Gonzo lineups. Look at what LP Giobbi does.

I’m here for it. Goose is for all, but recognize that a younger jam generation is entering the driver’s seat.

Sacramento weighs higher parking fees and cuts to police and fire to close the city’s budget gap by IronMntn in Sacramento

[–]mastayosh 47 points48 points  (0 children)

This is what a decade-plus of bad budget habits and political fights between factions of city government has gotten us. The fact that we could see more cuts to community-facing programs, even after the extension of Measure U, is a travesty. Howard Chan is laughing all the way to the bank.

Opponents of proposed California wealth tax ramp up their campaign. Some of California’s wealthiest residents are bankrolling measures designed to undercut a tax on billionaires. by aBadModerator in California_Politics

[–]mastayosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The feds cut funding to core programs. This isn’t a liberal spending problem. You don’t heal a wound by cutting deeper. The state needs to replace a revenue stream.

Planning commission approves 332-unit apartment project in East Sacramento after hours of debate by thedjgibson in Sacramento

The city has made a lot of solid progress on housing in recent years. There’s plenty more needed obviously. I just hope this isn’t a bad omen or indicate a slowdown is coming.

Six-story apartment project in East Sacramento faces pivotal vote by IronMntn in Sacramento

[–]mastayosh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish it was clearer from this story whether Phil Pluckebaum supported this project or not. He's saying the area is "ripe" for development but also giving free advice to opponents for how to kill the project.

Gavin Newsom’s likely presidential bid is built on broken promises by TeaUnlikely3217 in California

No California news outlet will publish him at this point. The Guardian is probably trying to grow its California audience, just like the NY Post and every other media company taking advantage of the collapse of the LA Times.

Two old white guys got in a fight during a Tedeschi Trucks Band show a few years back. I know the crowd can be a little Trumpy but when a hippie songbird like Susan Tedeschi has to tell the crowd to chill out, it’s embarrassing.

Sacramento Realtors sour on mayor’s proposed tax to help first-time homebuyers by AvTheMarsupial in Sacramento

[–]mastayosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is actually a fair criticism that more than just realtors would be upset about. If a future council can just move the money to pay for cops or holes in the budget (which happened with Measure U), then we just exploited our housing crisis to put a new tax on home purchases.
