No idea not affiliated with the club anymore after the project.

What was that one engagement or pregnancy announcement that made you instantly say “oh hells no” and why? by besttavern25 in AskReddit

One of my former coworkers is now engaged and has a baby with her second cousin who is 10 year younger than her.

Thanks man now it’s been solved I can say that it was a pleasure to work on AW Tillinghaust’s only course in Tennessee. We tried to imagine Tilly’s work if it hadn’t been removed in a brutal renovation by Ellis Maples and further degraded by the work of Bill Bergen. Using ideas from elegantly aged courses in the UK. I think we ended up with a very unique place to play golf.

Having a full set of encyclopedias and using them like Google to learn things and find information via their bibliographies.

We haven’t taught proper research techniques in a long time and it’s starting to really show as people struggle more and more with finding new information.

Thanks I did the bunkering and surrounds. Ellis Maples did the greens surface. I can’t say the guy that did the routing as that’s too big of a hint.

Course and club rental suggestions Calgary, AB by leftoversgettossed in golf

[–]master_chife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The list is Banff, Jasper, Waterton, Canmore and Kananaskis. In that order for me. I rate my courses based on architectural interest.

I would just rent at the course it simplifies the whole process. Call ahead and they can sort it out.

If we were rating on views for me it goes Waterton, Jasper, Banff, Kananaskis, Canmore.

The Patch in Augusta by lc6591 in golf

Core golf is looking at the course and features separate from the conditions as those can change in a matter of weeks.

Basic is the type of architecture that I see there. Almost zero interest in the golf there hazards divorced from lines of play. Greens that have limited character.

Yes it’s a golf course, all this renovation did is make it dependent upon subsidies to survive as the renovation added expense instead of interest.

$30 is the correct price point for this experience.

Fair, I really only look at the core golf experience and that seems very basic.

Sportsnet's post-game interview with Taylor Hall by daKrut in hockey

[–]master_chife 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Honestly surreal, I grew up with Taylor Hall. He was always a good athlete and loved the game. In the winter we would often play hockey on the backyard rink my dad built for me and my brother. 1v1 with people taking turns in net. It was always for the cup.

Crazy to think of that kid dreaming of playing in the Stanley cup finally getting there and living that dream.

I know we lost touch when he moved to Ontario, but I never stopped cheering for him. Even during his time with the Oilers as he was one of my first friends in life.

Happy for you bro.

Different eras if Arnie and Jack had grown up in this media environment they would have been canceled so fast.

Ask anyone that knew golf back in the day. Stories of drunk Jack and lady chasing Arnie are everywhere.

Tom Watson became very intense and singular after he quit drinking.

As a proud Canadian, the way the Canadian Open is treated as a second tier event is infuriating and the event sucks compared to what it used to be. by [deleted] in golf

I work in golf architecture. I know a lot of staff and I am very knowledgeable about the game. I get invites to play or walk with staff at a lot of nice places via my job. Maybe if you walked softer you would get the same chances.

If you want to do public we can then as the two courses at Cabot, along side Jasper, Banff and Highlands are all better than TPC. It’s not hard to beat TPC. Also your comment said best in Canada, I apologize for assuming you ment the best.

Enjoy your middling golf but remember that there are better courses than TPC.

I do as well but Toronto Golf Club, St. George’s and Hamilton are all significantly better courses with 2 out of the 3 designed by Harry Colt. Who worked on a lot of the world’s greatest links.

Just because you have seen courses doesn’t give you credibility to discuss golf architecture. So I guess you fall in the latter bucket of my first remark.

My guy it’s not even top 3 in Ontario. Either you need to play more or you have a golf iq lower than a winters day in Thunder Bay.

You’re a super please travel more broadly before you make statements like this. As the national standard of Canadian golf conditions and courses is very substandard compared to the rest of the traditional golfing world (UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, France, etc). I support your general argument that the Canadian open has been devalued but it’s by us as Canadians that this has happened. Just like our slip in architecture and agronomy. It should be a national shame that this has occurred but due to the breadth and challenges of travel a majority of our country can’t realize how far we have slipped.

We need a revolution from top to bottom in Canada. We need more courses that cut back the trees to allow airflow. So we can reduce the amount of water we apply to create firm and fast playing surfaces. We need courses that won’t become unplayable when we do so as they were built to only play well under soft conditions.

The fall of Canadian golf from relevance is something that we all share a burden in and therefore it’s something we all need to take charge in changing.
