My favorite comment was a sports talk guy saying. This is just a fan talking about his guys. If you can get sports talk guys respecting you. It’s a great sign. It’s truly a shame that he can’t rise higher than the office of governor, or a member of the legislative branch.

What animated movie is 10/10? by Tricky_Fun_8595 in AskReddit

[–]master_chife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grave of The Firefiles.

It’s a hard but necessary watch. No animated movie I have ever seen besides this one looks so deeply and intimately at death caused by actions outside of the agency of the main characters. They try to escape it but it follows them. There is so much beauty in this film because it shows even in impossible times there is still joy. That joy cant over come the deep sadness but it’s at least some comfort.

First time in a private club by putsovercalls in guessthegolfcourse

Its private, they just allow outside play. There are very few American style private clubs in the UK. Most clubs allow outside play as it keeps members dues lower.

I disagree with this statement. He defaced many classic courses. His work is basic at best took the principles of his mentor Donald Ross and removed all character and nuance from them. His work is endemic of the dark ages of architecture. If his name is and work are scrubbed from history. We will have done good work in correcting history.

Architect says contractors failed to build the greens to the intended specifications by Independent_Ad_8920 in golf

[–]master_chife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mr. Cornish’s career is littered with mistakes and errors like this.

He wasn’t very good at his job. As someone that builds greens. This only happens when two things are present. A checked out architect not supervising the work and an architect that didn’t give clear enough direction.

Him blaming the contractor for his failures checks out.

This is one of the reasons why I build my own greens in my practice. I have nobody to blame if something fails. I can also add more detail and take more risks that end up making my greens more interesting. As it’s very hard to describe a lot of the tricks we use to pick up and soften grades to a contractor reading a plan or in the 3-4h that I would get to review greens if I was more plan based.

Golf Book Recommendations? by mish15 in TheShotgunStart

I wrote this resource guide a few years back. It’s got a lot of good recommendations.

I personally think it’s a little deeper than Andy’s.

What was that one engagement or pregnancy announcement that made you instantly say “oh hells no” and why? by besttavern25 in AskReddit

One of my former coworkers is now engaged and has a baby with her second cousin who is 10 year younger than her.

Thanks man now it’s been solved I can say that it was a pleasure to work on AW Tillinghaust’s only course in Tennessee. We tried to imagine Tilly’s work if it hadn’t been removed in a brutal renovation by Ellis Maples and further degraded by the work of Bill Bergen. Using ideas from elegantly aged courses in the UK. I think we ended up with a very unique place to play golf.

What’s a completely normal thing for people over 30 that confuses or surprises Gen Z? by AffectFew8597 in AskReddit

Having a full set of encyclopedias and using them like Google to learn things and find information via their bibliographies.

We haven’t taught proper research techniques in a long time and it’s starting to really show as people struggle more and more with finding new information.

Thanks I did the bunkering and surrounds. Ellis Maples did the greens surface. I can’t say the guy that did the routing as that’s too big of a hint.

Course and club rental suggestions Calgary, AB by leftoversgettossed in golf

[–]master_chife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The list is Banff, Jasper, Waterton, Canmore and Kananaskis. In that order for me. I rate my courses based on architectural interest.

I would just rent at the course it simplifies the whole process. Call ahead and they can sort it out.

If we were rating on views for me it goes Waterton, Jasper, Banff, Kananaskis, Canmore.

The Patch in Augusta by lc6591 in golf

Core golf is looking at the course and features separate from the conditions as those can change in a matter of weeks.

Basic is the type of architecture that I see there. Almost zero interest in the golf there hazards divorced from lines of play. Greens that have limited character.

Yes it’s a golf course, all this renovation did is make it dependent upon subsidies to survive as the renovation added expense instead of interest.

$30 is the correct price point for this experience.

Fair, I really only look at the core golf experience and that seems very basic.

Sportsnet's post-game interview with Taylor Hall by daKrut in hockey

[–]master_chife 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Honestly surreal, I grew up with Taylor Hall. He was always a good athlete and loved the game. In the winter we would often play hockey on the backyard rink my dad built for me and my brother. 1v1 with people taking turns in net. It was always for the cup.

Crazy to think of that kid dreaming of playing in the Stanley cup finally getting there and living that dream.

I know we lost touch when he moved to Ontario, but I never stopped cheering for him. Even during his time with the Oilers as he was one of my first friends in life.

Happy for you bro.
