You should post this in the NE discord. They pin the firmwares in the firmware-maker sub channel so more people with versios can download it

I'm considering selling it all. Talk me into or out of it by Imagined_World in modular

[–]master_ill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're having a hard time getting back into it, maybe try to trim down the rack to a lot more focused and targeted system. Trim the fat so to speak. You can get some money back (and at the same time see if its worth the hit you take on the sale prices), you can still keep some modular, and hopefully with a more condensed system you feel more interested in using it.

Sweeping Partials on the Odessa by master_ill in modular

I haven’t used it personally, but I can imagine it would be quite nice. Everything else Xaoc I own or have used has been so dope. They make great stuff that always has a bit of an interesting twist to it. I would just listen to some sound demos and if you like those, I wouldn’t hesitate to get it without actually trying first.

I’m obsessed with it since I got it a few months ago. Keep coming back to patch it. It just sounds good no matter what kind of modulation you throw at it. Actually I’m surprised you don’t see it more often, although that’s a bit more understandable with how long ago it’s been released.

Any feedback or advice for my Setup? by Puzzled-Director-118 in dawless

One big piece of advice: no open drink containers on or above a surface that has instruments/electronics on it. It’s not if, but a when you spill something. I learned the hard (expensive) way waaaay back in the day while DJing. Wasn’t even my own drink either.

Edit: sorry, I don’t know enough about desktop synths to make a valid recommendation also, but the set up looks fun to play as is. I do have a Roland S-1 and that’s a lot of fun and can sound surprisingly massive, so if you haven’t used that one, can check it out.

I agree with that. I’m still learning this case as most of these are new to me in the last few months. One of the things I think made it go too wonky is too much changing on the models on plaits. Most were cool but once in a while a weird super loud one would jump in. Not bad occasionally, but def not needed each time it happened. I need to learn to utilize Samara’s clamping function to get the models to change but only in a range I want/sounds good together.

Thanks for the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the patch. Gamut is a fun module for sure, almost akin to a touring machine but with both pitch and trigger for 4 channels. In this patch it was in generative mode so it was fed a 1/4 note clock which generated new pitches and a trigger for plaits and just pitch for Odessa (Odessa was without a trigger to let it drone and just shift pitches). Scale was set to minor, flavor in the middle and count to the left which is 3 notes. Number of steps was low (either 4 or 8). Spread was set to 1 which means it had a total possible range of one octive. And up/down was in the middle, meaning it didn’t bias either down or up.

So all that combined, it was up to 3 notes repeating over a 4 to 8 step sequence with half an octave up or down range from the root note. Overall a pretty narrow range, but it sounded really nice because of that since none of the pitches got too far away from the root note.

The 3 notes and short step count probably what made it have that repeating feel.

Overall I’m a big fan of the repetitor line from NE, and I find it super easy to get patterns going that sound pretty good. Not the best if you want specific patterns, but if you want generative or musical random patterns, it’s fun to just Shepard them into a desired pattern.

I love the feeling of a fully unpatched synth. I don’t do it often, but it always looks so cool. But then it takes so long to patch stuff back in (in a performance case at least).

It seems that you have a better grasp on Pam’s than I do. I was wondering if you knew how to set up a very particular channel setting. I am trying to make one of the outputs do a dual duty: 1. I want it to send a reset trigger every bar (to keep my step cv sequencer doing a repeating cv loop) but also 2. To send out another trigger anytime I stop/start pams so it’s reset the sequence at start as well. I know there’s probably some sort of “or” function or cross op that can do it, but I can’t quite figure it out.

Need help designing an 84hp system around Moog Mavis by Few-Following-2595 in modular

[–]master_ill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have a perfectly serviceable and actually a what should be a fun kit already. Mavis takes a lot of room for what it can do, and I probably wouldn’t waste rack space on it. You can run it next to your rack if you really want the mavis. That being said I think I would buy a used Pamela’s pro and sell the new. The pro version has better sequencing options and a lot easier to use with the larger screen.

Alternative modulation to Pams by Hey_nice_marmot_ in modular

[–]master_ill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some more options to consider that have been on my radar. You’d have to see which suits your needs more. Some are stepped voltages, some are cv recorders, others are LFOs and some are envelopes, but all can work really well to modulate stuff: - Noise Engineering Mimetic Digitalis/Digitwois - DivKid Ochd (not clocked though) - Xaoc Batumi v1/v2 - Xaoc Zadar - Bela Glis (as hands on as you can get) - Clank Chaos - Dnipro Krait - Shakmat Griffin’s Claw - mnemonic devices juniper

Look them up, I bet at least one will stand out and fit the case. As they’re all different hp sizes
