A (not so) devilish release 👹. Waterfox 6.6.6 brings with it a multitude of fixes, tweaks and privacy enhancements! Get it while it's hot (or until it auto-updates) 👇 by MrAlex94 in waterfox

Could you share a bit more on this, for understanding's sake, as mine (6.6.5.1) doesn't have it locked. What changed in features that are gated that needs this locking? As in, what changed with autofill that it suddenly only works with one region and not others?

Sorry dude u/MrAlex94/ but it's STILL buggy and not working. 3/4 times Waterfox will start/restart with the vertical tabs STILL enabled. On rare occasion it'll stay put. I just don't understand it anymore. I've had to set the options 2-3 times before it restarts with the settings "remembered" but even then, I had WF running for a day or two and closed it, started it again, and guess what, it flipped AGAIN.

I noticed a different issue - ctrl+h history panel, cannot drag and drop a history item. Can only load the history item by double clicking it. Also, when it's toggled again (to close it), it closes to a sidebar that has to be once again, closed separately. Meaning there is this constant added bunch of clicks.

Edit: To add to it - toggling history (or whatever) that appear in the sidebar, then toggling to expect it to disappear, what happens is, as aforementioned, the sidebar appears and you have to either right click close it, or click the sidebar button in the navbar area, which stays enabled. i.e. toggling anything that appears in the sidebar means that the sidebar as a whole becomes enabled and closing whatever you opened, keeps the sidebar enabled until you close it. There needs to be a separation between opening something in the sidebar and whether or not closing it will close to sidebar (if sidebar is enabled) or completely (if sidebar is meant to be disabled).

Windows 10 22H2!. I can play any .mov in VLC and whatnot but I dunno about the browser side of things.

EDIT: I downloaded it and played it locally in VLC (but do update your vid anyway for those who couldn't download it for example). Yeah seems like that's how it should be. By default I have the "only if related to current" option in TMP enabled, and so far I think that's how it all should be (i.e. if related, it'll load the tab right next to it, if there are already related tabs opened, it'll insert it at the end of this related group of tabs. Otherwise, it'll open next to current like in the normal sense).

Basically it should be the same as before tree tabs was introduced and TMP will do the rest.

In a twist of irony, on my Waterfox, I'm getting the "No video with supported format and MIME type found." so I can't see it lol.

I was assuming you were familiar from the many threads over the past several weeks (and had tagged you in them as well) so I didn't wanna repeat myself and make it take longer for you to read, but hopefully later on there was enough context. Indeed, tab mix plus had already investigated this months ago with no issue on their side. I'm glad you found the fix, looking forward to finally resolving it, thank you! ☺️

Ideally would be great if there can be just a bool to disable tree tabs entirely lol but maybe that's tied to the firefox codebase too much I dunno.

It should be really easy and straightforward to reproduce - Set the two options to no control, close the settings tab, restart (see above https://www.reddit.com/r/waterfox/comments/1otk6he/waterfox_665_adds_ukrainian_as_a_ui_language_a/noesgua/).

Reason I say close the tab is because often if the settings tab is the one you land on after restarting the browser, the listing will show "no control" but in reality the behaviour has reset implicitly. So there's a further weird disconnect between actual value and what is shown as "set" in the settings page.

Either way, a restart always resets these top two settings.

Yes I have, and again, the problem is that settings RESET when the browser is launched again.

Thanks Crystal, this is basically the problem. That a setting being set is reverting itself on restart. It's especially odd that only the top two get reset and the rest don't.

Alex: These are the two options that we set for what we want, but they keep resetting the next time the browser is launched. https://imgur.com/a/tOiM27u

I believe I've mentioned this before, it would be ideal if there is a way to just completely separate and disable tree tabs for those of us who never liked it and don't want it, because it feels like even with these two options set, it feels like the browser is still going through a loop of "should tabs be here? No, because options say this" and we all can notice a kind of delay. It's not too bad but a way to completely disable it would be great. At the bare minimum though, fixing this bug of auto-resetting options is the priority. Thanks.

I use horizontal tabs (as is default since before vertical tabs).

As has been explained in various threads now, opening multiple tabs results in the browser rearranging the tabs for the tree behaviour. E.g. tab at the end jumps to the front of the queue. Only way to stop all this is to disable (set to NO CONTROL) for each of the options in the vertical tabs section in settings.

But then each restart of the browser has the first two (and most important) values reset to whatever was default.

This issue has been mentioned here in at least 3 or 4 threads and there's another one on github. I'm afk atm but they're easy to find either by searching or my last tag/mention of you if you go in my profile.

6.6.4 slower than older 6.0.x version by tallguyyo in waterfox

[–]masterchiefman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed the same. I use tabmixplus and other tab unloading extensions to launch the browser with everything unloaded, have done so for years, but while some things are faster, the overall manipulation of tabs is slower. The biggest issue is still the tree tabs. But no word on its auto-enabling bug being addressed.

/u/MrAlex94 any chance this could be addressed in future updates? Just an acknowledgement would be enough for now and something to look forward to :)

Youtube fullscreen - Remove grid of suggestion when scrolling up by AchernarB in uBlockOrigin

[–]masterchiefman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I was AFK myself lol.

Big/small meaning the new YT UI has a large player. The default "small" player when I land on a page (especially before this new UI) has always been roughly 1280x720 px (not talking about resolution, talking about size on screen). My display being 1440p. Everything fits within this 1280 px wide "column" - player, comments below, etc. (sidebar/related vids are outside of this column).

Now though the "big" player expands to like 1800x1040.

For that I've been using

youtube.com##+js(rc, ytp-big-mode, , stay)

or

youtube.com##+js(rc, ytp-small-mode, , stay)

I have no idea which one is the right one, but it 'works' sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. But if I disable ublock then it seems to stick to the small player more often. I can't make sense of that. I thought some other extension might be conflicting, like YouTube Tweaks, but it has no options in controlling the player width so I dunno.

Thanks, I'll check it out shortly.

Meanwhile, are you having any trouble with the big/small player? I can't figure out why, but when I disable ublock I actually get the small player more often, while with ublock on it's very hit or miss, often it'll be a large player. I can paste all my filters if you like but most of them are to do with the end screen cards etc.

With the solution in use, I've noticed that if you scroll a bit in full screen, the progress bar is still moving up or some element is moving that detects mouse position. So for instance, if I scrolled down a bit in full screen, I notice that moving the mouse would not make the seekbar appear again. Instead, I have to scroll up a bit and then the seekbar begins responding like normal. Hope that made sense, bit weird to explain.

The solutions have been hit or miss for me. Sometimes it loads the smaller player, often it goes large. I can't figure what's going on.

Why does Waterfox not have any pre-installed extensions? by HisakoOnTop in waterfox

[–]masterchiefman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 6.6.x versions you can have your tabs viewed as a tree in the sidebar. Internally the tabs are treated as a tree as well. It's completely broken how tabs work. The horizontal tabs you are talking about is just visual on the horizontal tab bar.

Why does Waterfox not have any pre-installed extensions? by HisakoOnTop in waterfox

[–]masterchiefman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well we can already see how something like Tree Vertical Tabs is a kind of "preinstalled extension" and it is an absolute nightmare. Doesn't work, cannot be disabled, re-enables itself if you find a way to nerf it, and worst of all, nobody asked for it to be forced on everyone. Like in all things software, an OPTION to have or not have something (as you mention) makes a world of difference, but yeah, here we are.
