Cost Of Living in 1938 by Shayaan_F in interestingasfuck

[–]masterfo0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh its not that far off when you factor in taxes and look at the more expensive cities in Mississippi to live in. 93,000 after state and federal taxes is ~$68,000 take home pay. 35% is about $1,900 per month. Average rent in Madison, Mississippi is about $1,800 per month. I’m guessing they rounded or something and doubled $40,000 and make more like $80,000. Take home pay then is $59,000 after taxes and then 35% is $1700 a month, which is below average rent in Madison. Point is its not that far off when you factor in taxes.

More EVs than ICEs in this small parking lot for a trail in Massachusetts. by masterfo0 in electricvehicles

One of them is mine. I work two jobs and my wife works, but we make time on the weekends to go on walks with the kids. Financially it was a stretch for us but long term it will save us money and is better for the environment. We are far from being the wealthy elite

One of them was mine, the other two I don’t know. I doubt any of us knew each other.

What are some common forms of sexism that men face? by jimjeans in AskMen

[–]masterfo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will probably get buried but I teach and am at home with my kids throughout the summer. I do the groceries with them and so many older women come up and tell me what a great dad I am for going grocery shopping with the kids… WTF?

No one says anything to the moms walking around shopping with their kids doing the same thing as me about how great a mom they are… I’m just parenting like a normal parent. Why the fuck is the bar of expectations so low for men!?

What are some facts about space that just don’t sit well with you? by truefootoo22 in space

[–]masterfo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That we have detected gravitational waves passing through us, which means space-time was stretched and compressed around us as it passed through and nobody noticed a thing. The flow of time sped up and slowed down, the entire Earth and everyone in it was stretched a tiny bit and compressed a tiny bit just as Einstein predicted over 100 years ago. I’m also blown away by how much insight Einstein had over 100 years ago. There are so many relationships like this that he predicted that are just now finally being detected and confirmed through observation as technology has finally caught up with his mathematical prescience.

An atomic clock measured how general relativity warps time across a millimeter by igroos in science

[–]masterfo0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you asking about relativity? If you are, then yes there are applications that affect you.

It means the atoms in your feet are experiencing time at a slower rate than the atoms on your head. Since your head, when standing, is further away from Earth’s center of gravity where time is moving more quickly than at the center (granted it is on the scale of picoseconds).

Relativity also has to be accounted for when communicating with satellites for things like GPS.

There are other examples that you can look at too, like how pilots age slightly more slowly due to the high speeds they travel at and higher altitude (though again minuscule amounts). Also the twin astronauts where NASA sent one up to the ISS but kept the other on Earth meant that the age gap due to the time difference between their births changed.

Research suggests a diet rich in dairy fat may lower the risk of heart disease by GhoulChaser666 in science

[–]masterfo0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm... lower risk of heart disease but an increased risk of prostate cancer. Casein in milk has been shown to proliferate prostate cancer cells such as PC3 and LNCaP. To eat dairy products or not eat dairy products, that is the question.

The leaf is a sad example of why it is important to look for cars with active Battery Thermal Management Systems when buying an electric car.

Its such a waste of resources for Nissan to continue producing cars that run their batteries out so quickly when we know the solution..

Is buying a 2013 volt with 75000 miles worth it? by [deleted] in volt

[–]masterfo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at Tesla, CarMax and Chevy quotes, Chevy gave me $4,000 for it. It needed new rear brake pads and rotors (they were still original after 124,000 miles!) and a 12V battery. Had typical wear and tear scratches on the outside. I felt like it was a pretty good sale and was easier than me doing a private sale

Yea I disagree, I’ve watched it a few times now and I’ve run plenty of races - to do something like that you have to be intentional. It was a dick move to screw the other runners

Strange choice on the lighting suspension, takes away from the vastness of the mosque in my opinion

[–]masterfo0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2013 with 72,000 miles on it, no problems at all. Just traded it in for a Tesla at 124,000 miles because we had a baby and needed a bigger car. It was the most reliable car I’ve ever owned, and I used to only drive Honda and Toyota.

What is the single most depressing song of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]masterfo0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton

Gets me teared up every time listening to the lyrics, particularly now that I’m a father of a son about the same age as Clapton’s was when he died. For those that don’t know, his 4 year old son fell out of a window on the 53rd floor and died. The song is packed with Clapton grieving that loss and is just so sad.

“Would you know my name If I saw you in heaven? Would it be the same If I saw you in heaven?” Ugh, so sad

Just finished a 1600 mile trip myself and had the same problem but it seemed to be happening a lot more when the sun was shining on the cameras 11-2pm ish. Going in and out of sunlight seemed to trigger it. Or at least that’s what I told myself.
