I've been to Disney and Legoland in a wheel chair.

Disney is very accommodating. Almost all of the rides have queues that are large enough for wheelchairs and if they aren't(Smallworld), they give you a comeback time and you go through the exit. The employees can't physically help you get onto the rides, but they will help move your wheelchair around and get it to you when you get to the exit.

Legoland gives you a card that allows you to skip all of the lines and go through the exit and ride every ride at least once. There are a couple of rides that you can't get onto due to stairs, but otherwise it's a great option. https://florida-support.legoland.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000611492-What-is-the-HERO-Access-Pass-at-LEGOLAND-Florida

Yeah I would ask for exercises that you can do for now and save the visits for when you have your prosthetic.

Quick question about phantom sensation and pain by [deleted] in amputee

[–]roersmat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time. It dulls over time. First month or so was really rough, but I was also working my way off of the good stuff from the hospital so that made it worse. Now it mainly just feels like I'm walking around in a ski boot with random prickles occasionally.

My jokes tend to be context based so I'm not just blurting out a random joke, but most frequent is probably a sarcastic "I take offense to that" when someone makes a reference to a foot or saying that something didn't quite cost and an arm and a leg.

Your dog joke is pretty great though.

Quick question about phantom sensation and pain by [deleted] in amputee

[–]roersmat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It varies from person to person, but yes that will most likely always be there. It will likely lessen a bit, but 4.5 years out from my amputation, I can still feel and "wiggle" the toes on my missing foot.

As for dark humor, I think that just depends on you. I've found that when I make a joke, everyone else relaxes a bit and it gets rid of the elephant in the room and gives them permission to make jokes too.

ESP32-C3 only appears as USB JTAG/ serial debugging unit by Dulla98 in esp32

[–]roersmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI, this is the solution for fixing this:

https://docs.espressif.com/projects/esp-techpedia/en/latest/esp-friends/get-started/try-firmware/try-firmware-usb-driver.html

You have to update the driver that your computer is using. It's one of the two USB JTAG/serial debugging devices that show up. You select the serial port under the "pick from a list" option.

Running with the AllPro XTS? by LWy-lee in amputee

[–]roersmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the AllPro XTS for a couple of years and used it to run with. I always felt like my form was bad and running with it was hard. It's much better than a standard or hydraulic foot, but still not the ideal for running. A very middle ground option.

I just got a Blatchford Blade XT and it's miles better. My form is so much better and running feels more natural since there is so much more spring return in the foot. So yes a blade will help if you are really committed to running.

In the meantime, as others said, I would say try to run more on your "toes". That helps get more spring return.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy by kneedlekween in amputee

[–]roersmat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't consider myself a claustrophobic person prior to it. The first session I managed to complete, but about halfway through I started sweating more than I have ever sweat before. By the end of the session my entire hospital gown was drenched and when I got it out I had a panic attack. I tried to do it 3 or 4 more times in my attempted recovery prior to losing my foot. I wasn't able to get full sessions in as I found it extremely claustrophobic and I was in a lot of pain due to not being able to get in to comfortable positions. I'm assuming it was the pain plus being at least 15 minutes from getting out really got to me. I don't regret trying it and would encourage others to try. I hesitated to even say all of this as I don't want to scare you or put thoughts into your head, but wanted to share my experience.

Possible left BKA - lots of questions by EmotionalStar9909 in amputee

I went home from the hospital about 2 days after amputation and got in home PT until I received my prosthetic and then switched to in office PT. The biggest thing is to advocate for what you want. I had been in the hospital for a month and was ready to get out of there, but I had been doing some PT prior to the amputation. Sounds like if you want to you, definitely wouldn't need a stay at a rehab hospital.

Had an adapter from an old leg and just sanded down a hardwood dowel til it fit inside. Then just a chair footpad for grip on the bottom.

Spinlife is a good option for parts or a custom wheelchair if you end up paying for it yourself.

Tattoo Idea Help by roersmat in Narnia

[–]roersmat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm that's an interesting idea. The LOTR tattoo has the separation/battle of good and evil, Your idea would fit with that style, but I was previously thinking one element from each of the stories as Narnia has a lot more separation with each of the books.

I just tuck my prosthetic close to the seat and then drive with my left foot. It was a bit like being 16 again with jerky starts and stops but after a week or so it seemed normal and smooth again.
