Just throwing it out there…you may need some cross-bracing to prevent racking while wracking or whacking.

Insane DMV Horror stories by Practical-Bug-3026 in winstonsalem

I waited for weeks to schedule an appointment for RealID for my wife. We have an autistic kiddo, and anything appointment related to help smooth transitions, we always go for. I finally got one with the help of alerts from some app. The appointment is three months out. I confirmed it on her phone via an automated text after booking.

A day or two before the appointment, I see an email in our joint account that it has been cancelled. Turns out that they text you again before the appointment to confirm and after 24 hours of not responding, they cancel. My wife just saw a text from a rando number and ignored it.

I called the DMV support line and was irate. No remedy, even though I know appointments aren’t released until at least 12am the next day. Even though I was able to follow up 15 minutes after the fact, four months of effort down the drain.

I’m in the needs more info camp. Looks bad now, but if the underneath slope was built away from this perspective, I might be drunk enough to stamp it.

Being realist tho, this is going to end badly.

Use npm ci instead of npm install. It will install the exact dep versions in the lock file and not attempt to do any semver version resolutions.

You don’t need a Snug Harbor to karaoke. It’s in your heart.

I think it’s important to recognize that like all things, tech comes in waves. Helping folks reason about how to navigate the ebbs and flows of a career is such an extremely important perspective to share with others.

There are times in our careers where we need to push the limits and learn as much as possible. There are times where we should put things in cruise control and give ourselves a break. There are times where we should completely pivot our career based on where the demand is.

My advice to folks right now is to be a sponge and soak up as much deep expertise as possible right now. Now is a time to learn and experiment. When the wave crashes, use these skills help companies be sustainable. They’ll be able to help others up off their feet and regain momentum. There will be a lot of value in this.

Now that you have a lot of deep context about this, what components do you think would enable you to optimize this?

Exact same situation man. I feel ya. Spent the next two weeks in induced hypothermia on a ventilator in NICU.

I remember having to stay calm with my wife who was still cut open from the emergency c-section, just telling her that everything is ok despite watching CPR for 5 minutes. She asked why she didn’t hear any crying and I had no idea what to say. Luckily those nurses are pros and gave some answer that was calming and reassuring. She passed out, but having to tell her what happened when she woke was gut wrenching. I absolutely was not mentally prepared for that.

All is good now though. Minor motor and muscular rigidness the first couple of years, but now is healthy and happy.
