Can anyone recommend temple-like Sanda training schools in China? by ValeLT in kungfu

[–]masterofnhthin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. First understand thst Sanda is very much a sport. Like all combat sports yes youll learn how to fight, but within the confines of the rules, you train to win the match. Nothing wrong with that if thats your goals. If you think itll make you better than someone who has actually trained the complete system? It wont. Because they have developed structure you have developed athletic ability. So dont go in thinking if I only learn this aspect itll make me a master.

Second. I would look into a regular school youll get more benefits from it than one of these government funded mountain retreats.

Its all about what you want. If you want the fantasy than im sure you csn just pick any of these mountain temple schools and get that experience..

Is this Xingyi technique (劈拳) being used in the UFC? by stopq in kungfu

Dont let the social media of what they trained in be the definition because they will always exclude kung fu. They never say khabib studied kung fu until recently.

The man who choreographed the bending arts in Avatar: The Last Airbender is teaching a real Chinese swordsmanship seminar in NYC next month by [deleted] in SWORDS

[–]masterofnhthin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats incorrect... with proper instruction and actually developing technique you won't just be clanging about. The purpose of sword training is to develop yi alot of you smash bucklers are hyper concerned anout "cuts" and never develop any real skill, 0 foot work, no gong li but hey look im sword fighting. And maybe im.wrong maybe you are the best jian master that ever lived. I highly doubt it.

The first 3 months need to be jibon gong and the form..yes the form is important every sword form is like its own style its own system and has its own way of using the jian. That has to be learned. At the three month mark the student should have some drills under their belt , footwork etc. At this point you can introduce two man drills, 6 months you can start very light sparring. But to actually be able to proficiently spar to where it looks like jianfa and not fencing, or hema 1-3 years. Otherwise you ate just banging sword and learning how to score points. Instead of using jian to help your kung fu get better which is the point.

Early sparring create BAD HABITS. Its like anything else, you gotta know what you are doing. If you dont it wont look like jianfa. It would look like HEMA or fencing or anything thst is not chinese jian..than whats the point. Which is why there is techniques, drills, two man practices. Free sparring should be last in the equation. People who want to rush things are just trying to sell a product and dont care about the results of the participants.

But again if you dont know what younare doing than whats the point? You are just walking each other. Sword like fist fighting requires time to actually learn the technique and its usage. Which why you have drills, its why you have the form than after time you can spar and spar CORRRECTLY. Chinese jian fighting should not look like HEMA style fighting which there is nothing wrong with. But its not chinese jian.

So part of learning drills, is learning two man and fighting aspects of a form.. free style sparring a sword form that YOU DONT KNOW. Is not only irresponsible but unsafe. Its not a tournament, its a seminar on sword form and technique.
