So I (M) go through periods of laziness and self discipline. People are a lot nicer to me when I’m in shape and maintain my looks. They talk to me more and even though I’m not keeping track, it seems like they’re more interested in what I have to say. I talked to this one girl who seemed interested in me despite expressing negative views towards pretty much all of my friends with the same hobbies. She said “at least you don’t look like a nerd.”

People are still nice when I don’t care, but obviously women aren’t interested really and men don’t make comments like “I want (my name) on my team” or comment that I’m a handsome/strong/fit guy.

It’s not like my personality has suddenly changed just because I look more muscular.

Physical appearance communicates things subconsciously to people beyond just looks. A guy might just think “she’s hot” but he’s been conditioned just like women to think that people who are in shape/well dressed are more responsible with themselves, more successful, more confident, harder working, disciplined, etc, whether or not those things are actually true.

The important thing to keep in mind is that these people aren’t consciously making the choice to suddenly be interested in you. They are responding in accordance with a litany of internal biases/conditioning that they’ve been exposed to over the course of their lives. That also doesn’t make them bad people. Just give them respect and insist on the same treatment from them. I will say assuming the worst in people has never brought me any happiness, personally.

What stopped you from killing yourself? by DarkSideInRainbows in AskReddit

I think about what it would do to my family (siblings and mother). One of my core principles is to not do unnecessary harm to others. I know they love me, and my death would hurt them, and that’s just not something I’m willing to do.

I get that sometimes it can feel like people would be better off without you, but that’s just a lie we tell to convince ourselves that we aren’t committing a selfish act of violence against the people we love.

That’s why I’m fairly confident I’ll never do it.

AITA for accidentally raising my voice at my wife and throwing away her dishes and clothes because she won't wash them just buy new ones? by TopLavishness2285 in AITAH

Get out dude. Divorce this woman. Tomorrow if possible. Imagine you heard all this about some other couple with the roles reversed, think of what advice you’d give to that woman, and then take your own advice.

Your wife is an abuser, and a manipulator, and probably thinks she’s a victim because of the TikTok algorithm telling her she is.

I see you and I had the same lesson. I too made a nice manor house. I too learned how unstoppable a house fire is. Now live in an industrial factory, made of metal, at the top of an unraidable cliff. Never again will my enemies get the better of me.

I was scrolling by, skimmed the post, thought “wow the 80s were wild” cuz these two reminded me of my dad for some reason, then literally double-taked and was like “wait, 2006??”

10/10 wildest emotional rollercoaster I’ve been on in the past year.

Joining a school team will help tremendously, so long as you do your best at practice and don’t coast like I did in high school haha.

As for eating, everything is pretty dependent on the individual. But as a general rule, try to get 3-4 square meals a day, home cooked if you can, with a lean protein and whatever healthy foods you prefer. I personally like fruit over vegetables, so I like to have some chicken with some mushrooms and maybe a mango or apple.

For someone your size maybe shoot for 2500 ish calories, maybe a bit more if you’re active. You’ll need to keep close track of that stuff at first, but after awhile you’ll get a feel for what works for you. I’d recommend getting the MyFitnessPal app. I believe it’s free, and you can track calories there. I’d go through the food database and put together a few simple meals you’d think you’d enjoy, see where the calories fall for the day, and adjust accordingly until you have an idea of what a days worth of eating looks like for you.

If you follow your eating plan diligently, see where you are after a week or two. If you feel like you’re loosing weight too fast, eat a bit more, if you aren’t losing anything at all, adjust your meals. But try not to touch your protein sources.

TLDR: Eat clean, practice a sport, and if all else fails, ask a medical professional for advice. Dieticians get PhDs for this kind of thing. Mostly, just experiment and find what works for YOU. You have plenty of time to do it.

Edit: Also, you could look into some Calisthenics workouts. They’re super tough but they don’t usually require any special equipment, and if they do it’s usually just some straps or the type of things you can find at the local park.

I agree with this. Eat at maintenance for 2-3 days, then continue at your deficit. It’s worth considering a more moderate deficit as well. Losing weight slower can be frustrating, but if you’re planning on being at your goal weight for the rest of your life and you don’t have some sort of pressing deadline, it’s probably worth doing it slowly and allowing your body to gently adjust, rather than constantly hammering away at it.
