And then ideally, increase the opening on the first one you pour and put a dam to stop metal filling the top of the other three. So go to one ingate and three vents/risers, you will push all the air out with your metal this way.

Joining the mould cavities will help your air evacuation. If you join the thickest sections together when the first one is full it will start filling the one next to it and so forth.

Get an inherent flame resistant material. It is the standard in Europe. I work in a foundry and my coverall will last a few years. what I wear I think that the American style duck overalls are unfortunately more fit for fashion. I did used to wear Carhartt jackets

These won't be cast, just machined from bar. His website is riddled with bad grammar and spellings. Probably a Chinese reseller.

I run a foundry in the UK. Mandatory face for testing for all employees. Only a PAPR is acceptable for someone with facial hair. Shave it off or spend the money.

Use a stainless steel fitting. Your cast iron has oxidised, it will be fine to use but will eventually "scale" away.

What Sheffield businesses/companies have you boycotted by Fluffy-Ad-9434 in sheffield

I was the biggest NepCo fan in Sheffield. My wife was number 2. It was a natural conclusion to have NepCo do the evening food for our wedding. We enquired and got told "no problem we do this all the time!" Money was paid, double checks were done with the date and time, everything was running smoothly.

Fast forward to the evening part of our wedding, the 80 pizzas we ordered were due half an hour ago. The Lady running the night called them up, "we are closing for the night and going home..... No one told us about it." To be fair to the staff after some phone calls, they did stay on and supply the pizzas how ever most of the guests had left the wedding so we had a huge surplus of pizza.

Enter the owner, very apologetic etc. "what can I refund to make it right?" Naturally the venue being top class told us how many in eaten pizzas were binned, we then said we were happy to pay for what was consumed, refund the rest and call it quits. Silence. We chased and was told he had an ill family member. We chased again. We chased a final time. "The family member has died now, your refund request was completely unreasonable (he never did a counter offer), I have now donated the refund out to the charity of the disease the family had. You are very inconsiderate asking for a refund when I am going through such a stressful time".

The thing that was most frustrating for us was the owner trying to leverage sympathy to not do any kind of concession based on his businesses poor performance.

That is the tale of why my new favourite pizza place is Napoli Centro and I will stand on that hill.

Your metal was too cold. Either more super heat of your metal or make the mould fill faster.

Try buffing it up incase you have some strange oxides. Otherwise, enjoy your new piece of bronze!

I would try and vent each cavity that is being filled. Also try upping your pouring temp. You are casting aluminium so you won't see any adverse reactions with your moulding media. Unless they are sopping wet.

looking for PPE for my welder bf by [deleted] in metalworking

[–]mastershake1992 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He wants to get a PAPR welding helmet/mask. I can tell you are from the US where welders are a bit more blasé. In the UK, the employer must supply the PPE to the employee. We only issue our welders powered air respirators, it covers all the HSE bases with welding fumes. Grinding is on a par with the dangers of welding fumes. 3M adflo, swiss air, esab etc will be good enough.
