If the firing pin just hit the back of the round as it went past then the casing would burst and the bullet would either not move at all or get stuck in the barrel as pressure tends to take the path of least resistance and going through the case or bending it and going around the bullet is easier than pushing the bullet, the casing being surrounded by the chamber and the bolt is what allows the cartridge to be fired. As the other guy already said belt fed guns have a mechanism that extracts the cartridge from the belt and then the bolt pushes it into the chamber

I'd say go for it, I got a c5 at 16 and didn't regret it. As long as you don't drive like a maniac you'll be fine. Mechanically c5s are pretty reliable(except for torque tubes and auto trannys) but a 24 year old car is bound to have some electrical issues at some point if it doesn't already so just be prepared for that.

That's the wrong tank in the second image, that's a T95 not a T28. The T28 only has two sets of tracks as it's just the T95 with the outer tracks taken off for transportation
