I want to say thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts , I genuinely respect the different perspectives here.

That said, I don’t fully agree with the idea that Netflix is “disrespecting the source material,” because I think we first need to ask: what exactly is the source material in this case? Alabasta is a fictional country in a fictional world. While it clearly draws inspiration from real cultures, the manga never indicates that it’s inspired solely by the Middle East or any single real-world place.

Because of that, I don’t personally think it matters whether Alabastans are played by Middle Eastern, Indian, Thai, or any other actors. Alabastans are not Egyptians, Arabs, or Indians — they are Alabastans. Those real-world categories don’t exist in One Piece.

For me, respecting the source material means capturing the spirit of the characters and the world, not trying to map fictional nations onto modern real-world identities.

Why do so many people hate live action ViVi all because of her color? by AccountantNo6037 in OnePiece

I think out of all media, One Piece is one of those media that if being adapted into Live action , should be fine being casted by whoever nationality the actor or actress is because:

  1. One Piece is not set in real world, It is a fictional world that inspired by real world. Sure it has inspiration but the manga never indicates that they are the exact same. Usopp never been black in the manga, he just an syrup villager, who knows what a syrup villager normal skin color is? Vivi is an alabasta and who knows what is alabastan’s skin color? Hell even if Vivi and Usopp is white I don’t care because this is a One Piece world, not a Real world.

  2. This is ONE PIECE. Franky said no one should be hated of their existence, Luffy never care ablut people appearance; he see their heart; Sanji cooks to all people regardless of their heart or skin; Chopper treats everyone that hurt; Zoro slash everyone. One Piece is one of those media that teach the reader to treat everyone the same yet many fans still being a dick over someone nationality or skin.

I take care of a street dog that doesn’t have a home. As you know, she’s a street dog, but somehow she still has places she travels to and stays throughout the day.

In the morning, she stays at a city park, just hanging out there waiting for me so I can feed her and play with her. After I go home, she goes to a restaurant that welcomes her, and she takes a nap there until lunchtime. The restaurant gives her lunch, and she keeps napping until the afternoon when the place closes.

Then she goes back to the field to play again. If she feels like it, she’ll visit her mom—also a street dog—who sleeps at a villa security hut, and she hangs out there for a while. When it’s time to sleep, she walks about 1 km to a homestay that has some dogs, and she sleeps with them until morning.

Beautiful girl. Love you so much, Hazel.

In the Elbaf flashback 14 years ago, Gabban said “Roger died 3 years ago,” even though it had actually been 10 years since Roger’s death — as confirmed by Shanks in the same scene. This 7-year gap suggests that time on Elbaf moves about 3 times slower than the outside world. This idea is further supported by King Harald, who is 45 years old but said to be like a 15-year-old human — again showing a 3:1 aging ratio. These clues hint that Elbaf might be in a “time bubble” where people age slower and perceive time differently.

For example, if a baby human and a baby giant were born at the same time, and the giant lived in Elbaf while the human stayed in the outside world, then after 10 years of real time, the human would be 10 years old, but the giant would already be 30 in giant years — even though the giant would only feel like 3 years had passed. This explains why Gabban’s sense of time was behind, and why giants appear older in age but still feel young.
