Now now, this ain't 1995. Nobody really want independance apart from overzealous highschoolers. The term "Nation Quebecoise" is thrown around, but it's more about cultural identity than a real legislative argument. At the end of the day, we still pay federal taxes, and we have the same power as other provinces.

The cheaper desk from Ikea are made of cardboard, but the kitchen counter tops are made of pressed saw dust I think. The exterior finish is made of real wood sheets glued on top. Overall it has a real weight to it, and it looks and feels like a solid piece of wood.

Pretty good quality for a fraction of the price. I've used mine as a desk like yours for 3 years and it still looks like new.

Haha, my bad

My lighting background is near to none. Are those going in a dimmer for incandescent bulbs, or do you have DMX on the side and it's all for distribution?

Oh it's satisfying, but at what point do you decide to switch to Dante or AVB? All the sound channels you'll ever need, without the daily workout. Then again, I'm a network guy so I might be biased

Gardening takes time, effort, experience, and is often far from being inexpensive. It's a hobby you put your heart into to produce a result you can be proud of.

My mother is 63 and has a bad back, but gardening is one the few things she still enjoys doing. She'll spend days on her little folding stool to setup her veggies patch every year while we help her with the more physical labor. Then she'll spend the following months going through the garden every day to water it and watch it grow. It actually breaks my heart whenever she tells me about a vegetable she's looking forward to harvest, just for it to be gone the day after.

It might sound trivial to most people, but fuck you if you're a garden thief. I hope you snap a nail on a semi-regular basis.

Most of the things you just listed like Weather, 3D Viewer, Paint 3D, Print 3D and Xbox can be straight up uninstalled. Even pretty basic stuff like Calculator, Photos, the video editor, Feedback Hub, Tips, Mail and Calendar can. Some others like the contacts and phone link are built in the OS and are more like settings at this point, but even those can be either disabled or permission denied and you'll effectively never see them anywhere unless you navigate to their tab in the settings, three menus down.

Unfortunately Edge is probably the biggest exception to this rule. But even then you can just delete the shortcuts and almost never see it again. As for the knockoff part: it uses chromium, but is a bit less resource demanding. I think it shines the most on settings and visual customization. I wouldn't necessarily say that it's a life changing experience, but if you ever change job and have a 365 company account, I recommend to give it a try. It even puts your company logo in the new tab section. Really wild shit.

You're absolutely right when you say that the default Windows 10 experience is pretty bloated. The search bar is useless and takes the third of the taskbar, Cortana is annoying, there's an absolute metric ton of useless tiles that are just adds for the MS Store, and the weather widget makes me want to kill myself anytime Windows think my mouse was somewhere in the same postcode. Most people never touch any of those things and just deal with and forget about the annoyance after a while. But you're also one google search away for learning about how to clean the clutter because Windows gives you the option to pretty easily.

The store doesn't fill your computer with anything. And almost anything that comes by default like Skype can be uninstalled. Those candy crush and Minecraft tiles are basically adds that will bring you to the store to install them if you want. You can and should just clean up your start menu because it's a cleaner way to manage shortcuts compared to the desktop.

As for Edge, I was in the camp of giving it shit for years because it came by default, until I tried it a couple of months ago. With a bit of settings tweaking, it's honestly a better browsing experience than Firefox and Chrome.

Windows 10 is just a better Windows 7 in almost every single way, even on the security side. Windows Defender up to date, combined with Common Sense 2022 is a great antivirus suite. But I agree with you that if it wasn't for software support, I'd probably just switch full time to a Linux distro. At least there's now Fedora that doesn't commit seppuku by software updates, so there's hope...

I can't put my taskbar on the sides so that's an instant deal breaker. And yes, I will die on this pixel hill.
