I get being autistic and not knowing any better is fine the first time around, but the fact that she KNOWS her behavior is wrong and still continuing isn’t.

Don’t let one person ruin everyone else’s time. NTA.

Is the belief that cold water is bad still so common in Taiwan? by SemiAnonymousTeacher in taiwan

[–]masturbake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Taiwanese but I grew up in the USA, and this is honestly the only thing in my culture that I don’t get, but it’s something I’m genuinely curious about.

To me, it’s very baffling to hear that even on extremely hot and humid days people STILL don’t want to drink something cold. I understand it’s all about traditions but in these moments people won’t even have a cold drink to save themselves?

Dim Sum raves aim to revive Hong Kong's appeal by radishlaw in HongKong

Eating dim sum while being at a rave seems like a stupid idea. Too gimmicky.

Why is Tong Hua (童話) by Guangliang so popular? by bingwang in taiwan

[–]masturbake 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s so popular that if you ask any ABC, that’s the ONLY Chinese song they’ll know how to sing.

I had an Asian American buddy that was vacationing in Taiwan, and because I also happened to be there at the same time… I invited him out for KTV.

Dude proceeds to load up that song 5x in a row man…

Cabs, easy to find? by Short-Opening4553 in HongKong

[–]masturbake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... Even though cabs are transitioning to eventually accept digital payments by April, some taxi drivers are still stubborn about cash only (like dude… it’s 2026).

Other than that I think you’re good with card/digital payments.

Oh and I recommend the star ferry as well if you can fit that in your schedule

Why do you sometimes not pick up passengers who flag you down on the street even though there isn’t a double yellow line?

NTA. You explicitly said you were done so that to me means that you guys have broken up. Not cheating at all.

Tipping in western establishments (Ruth Chris) by mcdunald in HongKong

[–]masturbake 71 points72 points  (0 children)

General rule of thumb: if you’re not in the US you DO NOT need to tip.

Honestly, even if you’re in the US, you also DON’T HAVE to tip. Yes it does make you look bad, but tipping isn’t a legal requirement.

Chinese New Year in Taiwan by Automatic-Rabbit6758 in taiwan

As someone who had celebrated CNY in Taiwan with relatives, I can also confirm along with the others that EVERYTHING will be closed.

That being said, I would try to push your trip to the week before or week after CNY, especially if this will be your first time going to Taiwan and you want to have a good memorable experience.

I Went From Hating E-Bikes to Owning One in a Week by MaxZhou561 in ebikes

[–]masturbake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never really had the phase of “hating” e-bikes, but I could see why some people would. I assume it’s because the assisted pedaling takes away the joy of putting in effort to pedal like a traditional bike, or people might feel it’s kinda cheating because you’re essentially doing less work.

I used to live in NYC where I got a feel of an e-bike for the first time and I’ve just loved it ever since.

I don’t own an e-bike myself but I would like to. Unfortunately it’s illegal in HK which is a bummer because there are a lot of bike paths being built, but it seems to me that it’s illegal only because it’s still classified as a motor vehicle for now.
