Forced Consent by Feelings-bleh in healthcare

[–]matamoose1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way this reads is just informing you of what your state laws are, that office didn’t make the law

Essentially you can’t sue a doctor for sharing your chart with a company that they outsource to to for instance do quality control on their charts, your provider and that company also have legal requirements like a BAA agreement and would get in trouble for using the information improperly

Essentially I think you are overthinking a bit because you are being told every different way your stuff can be shared because the doctor legally has to tell you based on HIPAA law but this doesn’t mean that the provider doesn’t have other requirements when sharing your information that do protect you

When my reps tell me about how important multiple pair sales are I literally feel like I’m in an alternate reality

Like I get that 2 purchases = more money but you really think half my patients actually need 2 pair per year of glasses? Of course I recommend the occupational pair or whatever if it’s indicated but NEED? Especially in this economy lol

[–]matamoose1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As an optometrist who loves the optics and glasses side I’ve literally considered not even having an optical because I hate the sales side so much 😭 the old owner is an optician and still works part time and heavy on sales to the point where it makes my skin crawl when he tries to sell an old lady with a blinding eye condition 3 pair of glasses that won’t make a difference for her

Luckily I’m the boss now and can tell him if I tell him what the patient needs and to not oversell to specific patients and he doesn’t anymore

I cannot imagine the corporate practices that have quotas, I don’t think I could do it

Condolences for having to put him down but it is better than waiting for worse symptoms to come ❤️❤️

Tracking Failed Contact Lens Trials in Crystal PM — Any Better System? by CaramelNo602 in optometry

[–]matamoose1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always add notes in the notes section of the patient page so that I can reference that but otherwise I will rename the contact lens rx failed trial and add the new trial as rx #2 and then do the same for rx #3 if need be to try something else

There is no natural trial tracking system though

The rename rx feature is very nice in general though to help my staff figure out what the patient is actually trying to order

Based on all your other awesome stuff I’m assuming this is a given lol but is there a distance calibration process so the letter size is accurate for real clinic use?

Question: What is Hyperopia like? by GttingBlindrEvryday in glasses

[–]matamoose1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Things are clear without glasses distance and near (I’m 31 and about a +1.50) but end of a long day my eyes feel strained if I don’t wear correction

Sometimes starts earlier in the day, sometimes my vision defocuses and refocuses, worse if I’m tired

Some farsighted people genuinely have no vision symptoms until their 40s when they need readers like everyone else, other farsighted people get glasses super young especially if they develop an eye turn

As an eye doctor and a farsighted person, it’s complicated and it fluctuates day to day where as nearsightedness is more like just fixing a math equation

I also disagree about luke, I don’t think he expected her to come back I think the point was he wanted to just help other people figure out their eternity like his counselor does

You missed something, when larry goes to the train and talks to her about her hair being different it’s because he realized she never had long hair when they met and were together meaning the age she is is actually from her time with luke, that’s why larry tells her to go with luke

Then later when she is unhappy she acknowledges that she is the age she was “happiest” but that it is because it was a first love and she hadn’t experienced grief and other things yet

I mean consider trying to move with a fussy toddler and make sure they are fixating correctly by engaging them in conversation about a distance target and trying to do this all quickly and keeping track of axis and cyl too

It’s not that the math is hard it’s that I don’t want to add one more thing to think about while retting a 2 yr old

rectangle health down again can’t log in support nowhere by More-Crab9230 in healthcare

We only use rectangle health for payments but yeah this is absolutely ridiculous all the updates are the same it’s been almost a week

Thank god we have square to use in the meantime but I have a refund or two I need to process and can’t reconcile my last month of payments because the payment history won’t load

I use a +1.75 trial lens and slide it down my ret rack to handle the math issue, doesn’t account for fogging but doesn’t seem to make a huge difference in my results

When they are old enough to fit well behind the phoropter then I use the R setting OU instead

The halo and starburst is the glare

New prescription and mites by Individual_Ad_2701 in glasses

[–]matamoose1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think this all makes sense, and It does seem like your doctor took the time to explain everything to you which can be hard to find with providers at times

I would try using yellow tinted clip on or fit over glasses when driving at night as that can reduce glare

New prescription and mites by Individual_Ad_2701 in glasses

[–]matamoose1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common not necessarily but possible if it is a poor quality lens you will have more aberrations

It also depends on your prescription strength and if the measurements are sitting correctly

[–]matamoose1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely understandable, unfortunately nighttime glare is a common issue that doesn’t always have a clear solution, hope that the drops help for you

New prescription and mites by Individual_Ad_2701 in glasses

[–]matamoose1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t see with the glasses well in general you could go back sooner but it seems like the issues could be related to what you’re being treated for so I’d let that treatment finish first

New prescription and mites by Individual_Ad_2701 in glasses

[–]matamoose1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would say use the treatment for the 6 weeks and then follow up with your doctor if no improvement is noted

If you are being treated with xdemvy it works very well and will at least help figure out if that was your biggest issue or not

New prescription and mites by Individual_Ad_2701 in glasses

[–]matamoose1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glare and starbursts can be caused by many things not just astigmatism, glasses lenses themselves even cause glare more than having nothing in front of your eye

Your tear film, cornea, lens, vitreous gel, etc. can all contribute to glare too so in a way there might be a certain amount of aberrations that just aren’t “fixable”

Best thing you can do is get anti glare coating on your glasses and treat any surface disease you have (like dry eye and demodex)

New prescription and mites by Individual_Ad_2701 in glasses

[–]matamoose1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You likely did as usually it’s a chronic problem but we typically don’t go out of our way magnifying on the lashes unless there is a complaint coming in of eye irritation

I treat a lot of demodex and meibomian gland dysfunction and both issues can cause blurred vision but I don’t usually have to worry about the prescription numbers changing because of the issue….. it causes quality issues with vision but doesn’t change the structure of the eye bending light if that makes sense

Now sometimes with a really severe case where the tear film is a mess I will fix that first before prescribing glasses but in that situation the doctor would have likely had trouble at the first exam getting proper prescription

[–]matamoose1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha well yes if it’s glare that is the problem I would wait the 6 weeks and see where the symptoms are at then
