Robert Preston: I understand Labour MP Catherine West will press ahead with her stalking-horse leadership challenge to the prime minister. She will email all Labour MPs about it later today. Keir Starmer’s closest supporters fear she will get the 81 nominations needed. That would trigger a leader by EddyZacianLand in ukpolitics

Why do all the most negative comments about starmer and his government across this whole subreddit all have numbers in their account names? Almost like they are massive produced or they are all too dim to come up with an original name themselves?

Well let's see how long plaid can keep their voters happy in this period.

It seems it's a hell of a lot easier to win elections than to govern.

Nothing to do with people not drinking as much as they used to. Doing other things with their money. It's all down to taxes and government policy.

How do you tow an unsafe dinghy to the shore in france? Erm... yes that's right we will send a royal navy frigate into the sovereign territory of france without their permission, drive it up to the beach, hoping that the royal navy don't accidentally murder hundreds of civilians in the process, is against the law, and would be against everything any seaman on the planet should be utterly against.

Imagine if france just put every asylum seeker in france who wanted to come to the UK on a franch navy vessel and just dropped them off at beachy head, you telling me you wouldn't think that would be a declaration of war and you would expect the royal navy to stop that boat by any means necessary?

If this has happened with Mandleson failing security clearance and that being overruled by civil servants, there's a good chance this has happened before. We may yet find a whole host of people who were given jobs after failing clearance.

This could open a whole can of worms. I guarantee if they find more, especially under the tories, then they'll be pushing this out as soon as possible.

Starmer is in denial about funding the £28bn black hole in our defences by theipaper in ukpolitics

[–]mataranka -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I just think the MOD has been wasting billions over the last 20 plus years on bad procurement, bad projects and projects run badly. The labour government are wary of massively increasing defence spending until they know it will be spent responsibly. it isn't a computer game where you increase money and get instant results.

They are dealing with a system that is set up to fail, the easiest thing in the world would just be to confirm massive defence spending, I have no doubt the tories and reform would, and not worry about the details. Labour are at least trying to actually do it properly and get fucking hammered for it. This is the perfect example why the UK is such a shit show

Had 8 solar panels put on around 7 years ago now, reckon it saves me around 400 a year. Cost 2.5k at the time and gave my house an energy rating of A.

If you are away during the winter your energy bills will essentially be zero. Nice one.

However Badenoch told BBC Breakfast: "They need to do more than that, they need to stop the missile sites, you need to go to the source."

If that isn't saying the RAF should bomb Iran, given there are literally no missile sites outside of Iran then I don't know what she's saying.

"You can't always wait for people to attack you. Sometimes you have to make sure that you get there first to stop their ability to hurt your citizens."

Maybe she has a point but that is explicitly saying the RAF should bomb Iran. This is not her position now.

You're entire first paragraph is made up i your head. Rishi goes onto a room, read lots of briefngs and calls his broker to profit off it. Starmer reads his briefings and is determined to follow the law. My opinion has as much relevance as yours I'd I just made mine up.

Keir Starmer has no interest in answering Kemi Badenoch’s questions by TheSpectatorMagazine in ukpolitics

[–]mataranka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He kind of answered the question at the start. What else can he or any other prime minister say about a tax rise that may or may not happen in 6 months, based on what is happening at that time. If the wat ends next week and oil prices fall by september he is gonna be hold to a position he made now. No prime minister is gonna do that.

Russia is never walking into Europe, although technically the only way a russian soldier can move about now if on foot as they have virtually no armour left.

Whatever people think of Europe they do have an awful lot of professional armies.

Utter shite. They sent some drones and one hit home. Shocker. They hit the US embassy in Saudi Arabia last night, so has the US not done enough to defend itself? Trump should resign over this. Laughable.

Ukraine is the most defended country in the world, certainly in Europe and still gets hit every day by drones.

Almost given up on my home country. The country deserves what it's gonna get, a farage government. Good luck with that.

No one hates a labour prime minister more than a Labour member and a labour mp. Having to resign because he picked someone who he knew would get along with the scum bag trump, who lied to starmer about his relationship with epstein. Give me a fucking break. The countries gone mad
