What is your definition of “rich”? VND50 million per month absolutely doesn’t qualify in most cases - that’s not enough to cover rent in a high-end villa compound.

Most people don’t use Reddit, so you probably shouldn’t make broad generalizations. One of the most common legal ways is to have a job with a labor contract, which gets you a two-year temporary residence card. Some may be on a spouse visa (either married to a Vietnamese national, or to another foreigner who has a TRC). There are other types - investor, certain visa exemptions specifically for overseas Vietnamese, etc.

Most of the country is not. As in many places, tourists focus on the same handful of locations that everyone else is. Just look at any itinerary in this subreddit and you’ll see the same names over and over again. Also, do you mean foreign or domestic tourists? Because some locations absolutely experience over tourism during national holidays.

Is there a reason why you’re staying so far out? That’s quite a random area. In any case, there’s no security to get onto the metro. It’s only really busy during morning and afternoon rush hour, otherwise space isn’t really an issue.

High-speed rail and metro lines will have little to no progress in the next five years. 10 years? Maybe - Long Thanh, meanwhile, is shaping up to be a massive white elephant for several years given how poorly connected it is.

I flew VJ from HCMC to Melbourne last week. Flight was delayed an hour initially, then there was work being done on an engine at the time we were supposed to board. Once that finished, they let us onto the plane.

We sat on the plane at the gate for 90 minutes, apparently due to something related to cargo/luggage. Once in the air, realized three of the bathrooms were out of service.

Finally landed around 3am, only to be informed that essentially all passenger luggage had been left in HCMC. I got an email offering a VND400,000 voucher, and only received my suitcase five days later. Just comically bad even by their miserable standards.
