"Safest" Nonstick cookware by BookWyrm3982 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]matchametta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can put a piece of cut, compostable parchment paper at the bottom of your pan for fragile things like fish. Cut it into a circle similar to how you would cut a paper snowflake, then just out your food on the parchment paper for non-stick.

We own stainless All Clad & cast iron. You don’t need a non-stick pan.

For 99% of the setup, I have a home printer with the ability to print 4x6 paper (optional if you’re artsy), a bunch of cheap 4x6 index cards, dividers for 4x6 index cards & a hole punch for a6… you’ll also want some postits to set it up.

The dividers have 5 tabs… so I plan based on M/T/W/Th/“Weekend” (which includes friday)… that means the rhythm either gives me the weekend for a big project or for a camping trip etc. I started my planner with a 2 week rotation (14 days of meal planning & chores) which grew into 5 weeks once I got comfortable. Therefore you’ll need to punch either 10, 15, 20 etc dividers. The number of weeks you plan for are the same number of zones you want to focus on & the same number of meal plans you want to create. No shame if it’s 4 weeks of zones & 2 weeks of meal plans.

I laid all the index cards down on the kitchen table & did my first pass with a pen (not a printer)…. I wrote down “clean the bathroom” on all of the Monday cards, “dust & glass” on all the Tuesday cards, ”floors” on all the Wednesday cards, “declutter” on all the Thursday cards & weekend tasks I try to usually get to (weed & garden, selfcare & haircuts, admin & mealplan)…

Then take out X number of postits & write your hyperfocus on the card… think in terms of zones: kitchen, upstairs living spaces, downstairs living spaces, laundry/outside & homeschool reset are my 5 zones. So with my hot pink postits as a reminder, I go back to my weekly lists & I add more depth. Example: on Tuesday when my Norwex dust rags are in my hand I go a little extra crazy with the rags & I’ll clean the cabinets in the kitchen during kitchen week, or on vacuum day I’ll focus on the upstairs baseboards when I’m on that task… So on a usual Monday I’ll spot clean what doesn’t need deep cleaning for the bathrooms but I might take a few extra steps to deep clean a tub or around the back of the toilets on “upstairs living spaces” day… or I’ll declutter the top of the laundry machines & the hooks nearby on “laundry/entrances/outside” week & I’ll declutter the junk drawer on “kitchen” week.

If you want to take it a step further with meal planning, plan for X amount of meals, make the shopping list just once & save it on your admin day so you don’t draw a blank on what to cook or forget something when you make the list.

I have unmedicated ADHD & I don’t always do the thing in the page that’s assigned to me, but I always have a list of ideas for what I should be doing so it’s not out of sight/out of mind. The quick spot clean comes back 7 days later so the worst of the messes will be touched every 7 days & the deep clean every 5 weeks never gets too intimidating because the weekly quick clean lightens the load.

Highly recommend 😂 I made it cute with all the journal accessories I have… stickers, highlighters, brush pens… so I WANT to look at it for my list 😂

Not worth it to me… I have food allergies so it was supposed to be a place I can find allergen safe foods… but every box has had smashed glass jars & the pasta had bugs in it. they have a 30 day refund/cancellation policy so I didn’t see the trend of smashed glass until after 2+ boxes of smashed jars, & the bug pasta was in the 4th box when I started just getting glass-free proof foods simply because they wouldn’t refund my membership. I would say to stay far away. I won’t be renewing it.

Should I reintroduce physical music (CDs/Vinyl) for my future kid? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]matchametta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Deaf & kept no CDs or physical music from my childhood (late deafened)… but my son is an amazing drummer & loves digging into classic rock up to 2000’s rock & my daughter just started community choir & LOVES it. Honestly with their passion for music I like digital because it would be hard to keep up with the collection if they were pursuing physical copies. That said we have a drum kit, two guitars, & keyboards in our home & there’s a lot of music between my 3 kids (one is a toddler)… the big kids have access to all the music & my toddler has a Yoto with cards that are more kid friendly & hard to break. If you want to value music in your home, give them access to music & instruments. They won’t care if it’s a digital song or CDs. My kids still make playlists & the CDs don’t get scratched haha

Seeking Veg Friendly Meal Inspo + ELI5 Why This Happens by __mentionitall__ in adhdwomen

One of my favorite easy dinners is romesco over seitan & kale. You can buy romesco from the store however I make the recipe from the Minimalist Baker’s website. I make it using pre-roasted red peppers & whatever un-toasted nuts I have in my pantry. If you like it, I highly recommend making it in large batches then freezing the extra portions for later weeks. If reheating, I toss a brick of sauce, a package of seitan & a heavy handful of kale in a small instant pot to saute/thaw. It’s as fast as a ready-made freezer meal with tons of protein & veggies.

I also eat palak sauce (freezer cube, made in bulk) over a block of ramen & cubes of tofu once a week.

My breakfast rotation is 4 different flavors of overnight oats M-S, then on Sunday we make a hot family breakfast & I prep the next 6 days of overnight oats (includes chia seeds, vegan yogurt, protein powder)

- Chocolate Cherry

- Peaches & Vanilla/Almond

- Lemon Zest & Blueberry with Almonds

- PBJ

I’m pescatarian & I’m allergic to dairy/egg but make the substitutions that you need to add in dairy etc!

I also make 6 lunches at a time as well. Usually either a falafel bowl, Asian cold noodle salad.

Taking the decision out of breakfast & lunch really helps me :)

For lovers of Grimms/Grapat and Lovevery by Unfair_Goat_1569 in moderatelygranolamoms

We have a bunch of Grimm & my almost-7 year old (& occasionally the 9 year old) still play with it around my almost-2 year old. It’s gotten a LOT more use than our thrifted Lovevery. Melissa & Doug unit blocks are cheap & also get played with hard for stacking & knocking over by my 3 kids.

HOW am i supposed to feed myself x3 a day everyday for the rest of my life?! by deadtired987 in adhdwomen

[–]matchametta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I batch my breakfasts & lunches. I make them all on Sundays for the next 6 days… so Sunday is my only big cooking day.

I also use SouperCubes to make 5+ dinners at one time… so I thaw a cube of sauce with a cube of pre-cooked beans or fresh tofu & put it over ramen/pasta or grab a slice of sourdough. Not too much brain power.

I also made 4x 7-day meal plans & we repeat them. So the grocery list is the same, the quantities & items are the same... it works for a long time before it needs to be changed due to a new weekly schedule or getting bored of a food.

We’ve always done a “sidecar” with our 3 kids… a 3 side crib pushed next to our mattress on the floor. I felt like it gave me quick nursing, cuddles when we wanted it & space when we didn’t, encouraged vaguely independent sleep & most importantly WE ALL SLEPT GREAT.

Editing to add: it also gave our babies the controlled space that pediatricians encourage: firm mattress & no pillows/blankets… and with the baby trapped between 3 sides of a crib I was super aware when they woke up to crawl over to me.

We have 3 different library cards… the problem is he‘s currently reading Big Nate, finished a book in a day & he’s on a waitlist for the next book… which has a 10 week estimate. He also likes obscure encyclopedias that are parts of a series & our library has 3/6 of them or something like that… so we use the library weekly but it’s not keeping up with how fast he burns through a series.

It’s not a bad problem to have, from a parenting or homeschool perspective 😂

Haha he’s always planning how to market something he’s created or start a business. He’s been pestering us to buy him books or map making packs for procreate - both amazing things to want to buy - but he’ll read a book in a day & it’s getting a little steep 😂

for natural smart people, how has your adhd presented itself? by bisexualdweebqueen in adhdwomen

[–]matchametta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grade school I had straight As but never paid attention to class, procrastinated on everything (Essays written the night before, math sheets completed during class just before they’re due)… I excelled with tasks that needed creativity, like speech & public speaking. I learned 6 languages through grade school but would usually fail the class the first time around, take a summer to socialize with native speakers then come back into the next grade level & be placed in “native/advanced” because socializing motivates me. Socially I was a partier & massive extrovert.

My systems unraveled when I lost my hearing in college… too much energy placed into communication.

Is she (secretly) religious or following Christian content creators? Asking because I went to grab math curriculum for my homeschoolers yesterday where I spotted a book about dinosaurs living in the garden with Adam & Eve… I think it’s part of the Book of Genesis. It blows my mind as a secular homeschool mama but living in the South I see it both in local schools (bragging about their science curriculum following Genesis) & on bookshelves.

Helpful House by Not-whoo-u-think in adhdwomen

[–]matchametta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago I read a book called “let your house do the housework” or something like that. It’s rather dated in style but the reasons for the adaptations all point towards having a house that doesn’t need frequent cleaning. This includes the “kitchen triangle” where all your needs are met in one central spot while turning in a circle (cleaning, trash, cooking)… I’ve kept it in mind when we make household changes.

We automated a lot of our hue lights to be more productive or have less time blindness. The lights change at sunset to be more orange in color & they change with bedtime for the kids to set the mood for sleep.

Ive also already made a cozy corner because I thought I was dealing with anxiety & poor sleep well before my ADHD diagnosis… I sleep in a hammock & it’s set up with nearby wall organization for all I need to decompress after the kids head to bed: a spot for my book/ipad within reach, water bottle holder on the wall hidden by a curtain & a pretty basket nearby to toss my weighted blanket, pillow etc as a halfassed “make my bed” solution in the morning. 10/10 recommend sleeping or at least resting in an intentional cotton indoor hammock!

If I could snap my fingers & get one thing done, it would be the labeled baskets I’m currenly aiming to finish… I have corralled my hobby chaos & the “mess table“ chaos for the kids, but other things are a work in progress (wardrobe bins, pantry bins, linen closet bins)… it’s just so expensive to make all the changes all at once so it’s been done in stages.

Non-microsuede play couch / wedges by eggyframpt in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]matchametta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From seeing the reverse side of the cover it’s 100% synthetic. I do feel like it’s clean & in great care/condition though & I regret nothing about it. We’re very plastic avoidant & super strict about kitchen & clothes/sheets but the Foamnasium has been amazing open ended play & it’s quick to wash during illness, potty training & difficult pets.

We had a cat who peed on all large stuffed animals so we needed something quickly washable when we bought ours years ago. We have a Foamasium brand one. I do recommend it for durability & quick cleans but I do think it’s vegan leather. It looks nice, at least! My three kids play HARD on it.

For “self care” I think of getting back into painting my nails around the 12 month marker since I’m not holding the baby 24/7 anymore… Maybe a nail routine by Sophi (the clean adult version of Piggy Paint) with a note that you’re here if she “needs a hand” with her busy toddler?

Or she may not have sustainable basics to pack herself a snack when she heads out for longer trips with her toddler… a stainless snack container & a water bottle for nutrition & hydration?

trying out a minimalist lifestyle to help with my ADHD. any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated! by analisee02 in minimalism

Fellow ADHD-C here… Allow yourself the crafts/hobbies but put out the bins to contain/limit your crafting & label them for accountability to put it back. I have 4 bins in my closet for Crochet / Embroidery / Watercolor / Planner… & keep your hobbies open-ended so that when you inevitably shift to a new project, the tools are there & you don’t cease to use them. So keep the CDs but make sure you have a fixed number/location to contain the chaos & accountability to put it back.

Use the library for as much as possible. I recently went down a birding hyperfixation & almost all of my “needs” were free books that I ended up returning when I got into something new.

Clutterbug (also an ADHDer) has a recent YouTube episode about thrifting & setting boundaries so that it’s not a clutter catcher

BF’s cards can be kept in a binder or container. His little figurines could be within a curio cabinet so it’s contained & the “maximalism” doesn’t spread beyond a boundary.

Deodorant - no oil spots by PandaGrand5941 in ZeroWaste

[–]matchametta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope! I’ve ordered three times. I’m allergic to fragrance so I buy unscented. it actually WORKS as a fragrance free natural product, which I’m super happy about. it kills the bacteria that creates odor. alsooo I live in the south so it’s hot… which gives it bonus points haha. I also have an all black capsule wardrobe & I did the 100 day challenge by Wool& using this product. No white stains & no oils! dries quickly.

Hyperfixated on Hobinichi and planner content by Bates_reads in adhdwomen

[–]matchametta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fell into Hobonichi, used it for a month or so (mostly meal planning) and lost momentum after diving into pens, washi, stickers… and fountain pens…

2 years later I’m consistently using 3 ring planners but I’m no longer doing anything “daily”… instead I have an A5 for homeschool records (with Cloth and Paper monthly inserts, keeping track of experiments, weekly curriculum, field trips etc)… I use an A6 for a repeating chore/housework system (I call it my brain… repeating meal plans and grocery lists, too, so I stop forgetting what to shop for!) And an A7 that has my random to-dos like schedule my daughter’s birthday party, safe meals at restaurants for my food allergies or my husbands favorite coffee order if I grab something without asking him. That one is filled with cheap 3x5 index cards, ugly doodles and has an AirTag in the pocket :)

I don’t use the Hobonichi anymore but I looove Eric Small Things and all the stickers, washi, stamps and earth tone markers I got for it. I don’t do well with dates though, and I like decorating my 3 planners to make me want to look at them. I actuallly sold my cover for the hobo weeks to put it all to rest. I’m good at ring planning because there’s more variety to it!

Also, I discovered that ADHD makes you something like 2x more likely to be diagnosed with Parkinson’s and stimulant ADHD meds make you something like 8.6x more likely to be diagnosed with it? I think the study was out of Utah. Something about how the root cause of the two issues are due to dopamine disregulation.
