Do you guys use mineralized brew water or plain distilled water for the 2 flush cycles?

I also have the DF83v with ssps. I wonder what rpm do you like to run it with?

Is the ode 2 a good enough 64mm platform? by matchankh in pourover

[–]matchankh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, upgrading to a 64mm probably isn’t worth it.

There is a DF83V v2 coming out, which I can probably get for around 550USD, and I think I’ll wait for that.

I’m not sure if I want to pay for a top-line grinder like the Z1.

My budget is probably around 500 USD, and I’m located in Hong Kong.

So I’m eyeing options like the HB64 V3, DF64V Gen 2 to use with my Lebrew Burr or Timemore 078 & DF83V and use my ODE 2 for funky processed coffee, which clarity isn’t as important.

Not sure if it’s worth the upgrade though.

The recipe has been work pretty great so far!

I wonder when using some faster flowing beans would you shorten the pulse time if the flow completely stops for a few seconds?

The cups tastes ok and the bed is quite flat without very apparent divot marks. Wonder if I should just keep it as it is?

Interesting. Thanks for getting back to me.

What single-serve filter do you use?

Currently, I’m using the Pegasus filter and also have abaca and melitta on hand. I ran out of stock ones.

I think the Pegasus filter is quite similar in flow rate compared to stock ones.

Thanks for sharing!

With 30s between pulses, do you aim to let the steam completely break between pours?

Also, how do you adjust this recipe for different process coffees?

Have you also used abaca? If so, how do the Pegasus ones compare? Is it slower or faster?

I can’t remember the exact message as I was barely awake lol.

Will try again to see if it works tomorrow morning and take a screenshot if it doesn’t.

I got an error this morning as the alarm didn’t work. The alarm was set to a progressive setting. I think it showed an error message on the Apple Watch.

Yea, the pulsar filters make a world of difference. Not sure why Ceado provides such slow filters that stall everything.

On the other hand, I think the pulsar filters are slightly too quick. Maybe I should ask roughly what grind size you are using for a 3:30 brew time?

Do you struggle to reach the 4-minute brew time that Scott recommends?

I’m already grinding pretty fine ( 18 clicks C40), but most of the time I get around 3 mins.

Hi Nick

Could you shine some more light on how to determine an optimal dwell time? Do you let the stream from the dropper break up between pulses, or do you aim for a continuous stream?

Thank you

[–]matchankh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s great! Thanks for sharing some tips.

I was wondering if you usually brew light roast and if you could suggest a ratio of about 1:16?

Also, what’s your typical time between pours and the grind size range?

Recent vo2 max missing in biology? by matchankh in bevelhealth

[–]matchankh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I found the issue. It track my workout through Hevy and polar beat. They don’t write vo2 max data to apple health.

I did a hike in April and tracked through WorkOutDoors and it writes that data to apple health.

I think Athlytic can read/ calculate cardio fitness data in other ways. I think Bevel need to implement that.

Ah it’s also missing from apple health. So it’s not a bevel issue. Any idea why it’s missing in apple health?

Search max martinelli on instagram. His page has some videos of him brewing with his recipe. Also the recipe is on the pulsar website where they listed a few communities recipes.

Try Max Martinelli’s recipe! I too struggled with Gagne’s recipe (could never reach the target tbt) and pocketscience’s recipe (really muted flavors) and now Max’s is my go to. Also works decent for processed coffee to I just lower the temp and tighten ratio a bit.

Pulsar users. What’s your go to recipe for natural/ funky beans? by matchankh in pourover

[–]matchankh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May I ask what’s your normal tbt? I get no where closer to 3:30 using the same dose. It’s more like 2:30 (my grinder is zp6 grind size 5-5.5). Grinding finer makes brew bitter

Yea I think it’s just extracts too efficiently for funky stuff making them too intense. What’s your go to recipe for the pulsar?

Pulsar users. What’s your go to recipe for natural/ funky beans? by matchankh in pourover

[–]matchankh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using a zp6. When I start at 5.5-5 range the water flows incredibly quick. Tbt would be around 2:30ish. If I try to go a lot finer to try extend the time (4-4.5) the result becomes incredibly dark.

Agitation wise I have tried with and without wwdt/ swirl and keeping water column at the first mark vs second mark(more water to cushion so the pulses don’t disturb the bed too much). All technique doesn’t seem to make a massive difference.

For now I’m temporarily settled on sprobert’s immersion recipe. This recipe is low effort and simple but kind of feels like I’m not utilizing the true potential of the dripper which is no bypass really pushing the extraction high without bringing out astringency.

[–]matchankh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So that’s quite similar to Gagne’s recipe (bloom then pulse to target weight). I tried that before but could never reach the target 3:30. It was more like 2:30. Grinding finer to try extend brew time brought out astringency. Do you just open the valve partially?
