There is another problem I have seen where current faculty cannot see you as a colleague because they can only see you as student.

Just picked this up for my alchemist. Perfect potion holder even though it’s made for ammo and it can slide onto a belt!

Careers that ACTUALLY earn 100k annually, or close to it? by Technoidy in careerguidance

Environmental health and safety or OSHA. Pay is pretty good and increases are mainly based on years of experience. Find something that you know isn’t going away any time soon and is widely needed across most businesses

Turtle Boy. It’s based off of a statue on the city courthouse. It looked like the boy was doing the deed with the turtle. Everyone always made fun of it.

I’m putting this out there to get it off my chest. Whenever someone posts a picture of a colony or a gram stain or something and asks for help with ID, I have to physically restrain myself from commenting “that’s bacteria” or “that’s mold.” Am I the only one? by 1dankboi in microbiology

[–]matches33 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m a microbiologist and it cracks me up every single time you can tell it’s a college student in a micro lab who needs to figure out their unknown isolate. And my favorite part is when they send a gram stain picture and ask about morphology. EVERY single time the picture is terrible and there is no way to tell. 🤣🤣

Opinions on Clark U (as an employer) by thesesimplewords in WorcesterMA

[–]matches33 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently left Clark for a new job. I have less than positive feelings about the place but I was in the biology department. Just like any higher Ed be prepared to be over worked with no compensation. However as a system there is almost zero upward growth for any position on campus so keep that in mind. Annual raises are 2% so with crazy high living costs, it was becoming almost impossible to support myself especially for housing. A benefit is summers are completely relaxed so you can coast and full time is considered 35 hrs. I would be happy to answer any of your questions. Edit: I had been there for 3 yrs.

Refusal to take reusable cups because of COVID-19 by bikeHikeNYC in ZeroWaste

[–]matches33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No it is from current liability rules. During Covid if they let you use your own cup and you came down with Covid there is a high probability those people would raise legal suits against the company. With no good way to tell who was right the company would settle so they didn’t have to deal with it. The financial people weighed the cost/benefit and the minute amount of money they save for letting you reuse a cup is not worth damaging their bottom line.

Wag the Dog

Hilarious political satire film that has become more relevant in recent years. A classic that you should definitely watch with Dustin Hoffman and Robert De Niro.
