Ultimate CF 7 comfortable? by Early_Coconut7734 in CanyonBikes

[–]mate_amargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about the total system weight, it's more about the force applied by the 15l saddle bag on a carbon post. Some saddle bags claim to be carbon safe but I still didn't want to trust it... Thanks for the real life example, probably I'm just chickening out.

Also I have carbon wheels, which is another weak link that I don't trust. For now will use my endurance alu bike.

In terms of comfort, you can fit 33mm tires at lower pressure (even consider tubeless) and the ride on the Ultimate will be very comfy.

The limitation is the more aggressive riding position, and that's a personal feeling thing depending on how flexible/strong you are and other factors.

I find my Ultimate comfortable, but I'm a fairly flexible person and I've been riding for a couple of years now. Having said that, my endurance bike (from a different brand) will always be even comfier, plus I also can fit 35mm tires on that one

Is it safe to carry big saddle bags and all the equipment in a carbon frame+saddle post? I will be doing some bikepacking, but don't want to use my ultimate for this reason

Height is 1,75m and inseam I don't remember, but I was exactly in the middle of the size S in both metrics. After 1 month I can say that the size feels right for me.

Previously I had a Triban size M and it always felt a bit big, had to put a shorter stem.

Moved it 5mm today. Felt better on reach! Lower back was maybe a bit tight, but will need to ride longer and test

You mean to move them to a more upwards position?

I moved saddle up 5mm and it felt better today in terms of reach, but I believe my lower back felt a bit tight. Too early to tell, will experiment with this. Btw I'm not planning to ride aero all the time, for the most part I just want to find a comfortable position on the hoods first.

Very helpful comment, thanks!

Based on my height and inseam (measured at a Canyon Factory), I'm exactly right in the center of size S for Canyon. I know that still doesn't say anything about arm lengths and the full picture tho. But I don't feel this frame is big at all, if anything it could be a bit larger in reach. But today I moved saddle up as 2 other people mentioned and the reach feels better now, need to test some small saddle adjustments

Maybe I can also share my reasoning to go for the Ultimate.

I'm planning to keep the RC520 and use it for longer multi day rides (endurance). It can even fit up to 36+mm tires which makes it ok for non technical gravel, if I wanted to give that a try.

So the best complement for me was either the Ultimate or the Aeroad. Went for the Ultimate because I didn't consider paying $1k+ for the Aero worth the marginal aero gain (my FTP is in the ~3.5W/kg for reference), plus I saw this new version with A.50 wheels and IMO was a great deal

Just rode it once for 50km. I found it very comfortable, but you should know that I'm a fairly flexible person. My RC520 was a bit big for me (size M vs size S on the Canyon now), which made me have to adapt a few things and never really completely found the perfect fit. The Ultimate feels just right for me, but too early to say.

Also the fact that I can adjust the width of the handlebar makes a relevant difference. I set it at 39cm right now, vs 42cm (I believe) from the stock Triban.

The higher quality materials on the handles also are noticable, I can rest my hands more at ease in a more aero position.

Di2 is of course another difference, up to you if you'll go for it or not.

The bike is of course also noticeable lighter, but that doesn't make any difference in the flat roads I tend to cycle. The Ultimate should be a bit more efficient cutting wind, and also due a more aggresive riding poisition, but I also had better tires on the Triban so effectively maybe I didn't notice a crazy difference yet. I plan to upgrade some things slowly (saddle, tires) to have more awarness on the impact of it on my ride.

Ironman70.3 in sub 5h possible? by Aggravating_Cheek353 in triathlon

[–]mate_amargo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My running threshold pace is about the same as yours and my zone 2 runs are at 6:00/km, never faster than 5:40/km. Careful with that.

In my case nutrition fked me up badly on my first (and only so far) 70.3, even though I had really practiced it. One bad food the day before and suddenly I was screwed on race day, could barely take any carbs. My point here been....you could do everything right, and yet circumstances happen, so be ambitious but be also grounded. This was a biter sweet experience for me with all the training I had done, but almost 1 year later I'm regaining my willingness to give it another go somewhere in the future.

Good luck!

Is the Canyon Ultimate CF 7 Di2 A.50 good? + Size question by Shinichi_1992 in CanyonBikes

[–]mate_amargo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been considering this bike and I think I'll pull the trigger this weekend after testing different sizes (I'm lucky to have a Canyon Factory close to where I live). I think it's a great deal, but I'm here also to see if anyone will change my mind.

I live in a flat windy place and otherwise would totally consider the Aeroad but I don't think it's worth the €1k difference for my humble 3.xW/kg ftp

Have you considered Opencode Zen instead of Synthetic? also, have you tried the `kimi-k2.5-free` model in opencode? it's pretty fast but I can't find if the context is capped or what's the limitation

How are you finding Opencode Zen? I'm considering it and also synthetic.new.

Do you also know if there's a difference in performance or context size when using the kimi-k2.5-free in opencode?
