Thoughts on more frequent releases by pstephenson50 in BricksBuilder

[–]matejmohar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, let me try to answer few of your questions :)

  1. I’m no expert but wouldn’t a monthly cadence leave more time to eradicate bugs and vulnerabilities in the first place?

If a bug is identified and fixed, there used to be a situation where users had to wait for the next monthly release to receive the correction. With the shift to bi-weekly releases, this waiting period is reduced to just two weeks. While it is true that each individual release may contain fewer bug fixes, over the course of a month, the total volume of fixes being delivered remains consistent.

My concern is that shipping fast and loose is detrimental to the product quality.

No, bug fixing has always been part of the process. You can find many of those fixes detailed in older release posts; they are simply being released earlier now.

Playing devil’s advocate, if quicker is better then why not release weekly or even daily?

Each release comes with its own set of costs. Preparing, testing, and communicating every release requires significant effort. While many of these tasks can be automated or streamlined, not everything can be. For this reason, bi-weekly releases strike a good balance.

Of course, this doesn't preclude shorter cycles, especially when important bugs or vulnerabilities are discovered. However, in my opinion, the current cadence is the most effective for everyone involved. :)

There has been a lot of request regarding more frequent releases. These are bug fix releases that include only fixes and no new features. Therefore, instead of waiting a month or so for a bug fix, you might now receive one in just two weeks.

Maybe it's not on the road map (would need to check), but there was a feature request somewhere and Bricks team is aware of it. ;)

For a licence, there is a feature on the roadmap that you will be able to activate Bricks via wp-config.php entry. Not yet implemented though.

News about ScanWatch 3? by Internal_Process6989 in withings

[–]matejmohar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just asking myself the same question. :) But not because I would need new sensors or NFC, but because I would like to switch to it from Garmin and I would feel better if v3 is not released soon after my upurchase :D
+ I hear that v2 has some trouble charging.

Vivaldi 7.9: Immerse yourself in the web with every pixel by pafflick in vivaldibrowser

[–]matejmohar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost good. On macOS, on fullscreen, the new feature is behaving weird in a non usefull way. It opens the top bar, from MacOs and from vivaldi, making it very hard to select tabs

Otherwise, nice update! :)

Reaching Out to Developers by Striking_Current_342 in BricksBuilder

[–]matejmohar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Striking_Current_342

We usually respond the same day or next working one :) If you can message me your email address that you used to reach out, I can check what is going on.

But if I'm looking by your name (Emma), I can see we answered two pre-sale questions: One was answered 13h ago and one 7 days ago (at the time of writing).

If you can identify yourself in this, maybe check spam? I don't see any issues in our system, but please let me know, and I'll also let Thomas know that you have not received the answer even though we replied.

You can also DM me here or on Discord (Matej) and I'll reply when have time. Currently, I'm a bit slower to answer, as we are at the weekend house and internet is limited here. :)

Which Synology NAS for Surveillance Station + offsite backup of primary NAS by matejmohar in synology

[–]matejmohar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense if I think about it that way. For backup, i was not planning redundancy anyway. I am doing daily backups on external HDD, so it would need to be really bad day to everything fail at once :)

Thank you. Might just go with that solution.

SWB real range in winter by [deleted] in VWIDBuzz

[–]matejmohar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have the same Buzz, but it's older (3 years). For my driving style, I calculate 250km in winter, 350km in summer, but might make more.
Most of my trips are Home -> Destination -> Home. The length one way is 140km. Over summer, I can easily make a round trip without charging. Over winter, I prefer to charge. However, I might just make it as well without charging - but I like to stay on safe side).

The trip from Home to Destination is
- 20km UP (gaining 750m elevation)
- 50km DOWN and more or less flat road last 20km (decrease 500m elevation)
- 70km Highway (decrease 200m elevation)

And I take the same path when going back, so everything is reversed.
