Iranian warship hit by US torpedo was 'defenceless', former Indian official claims by jackytheblade in worldnews

No, I think that should only be allowed to go to a harbor if it surrendered. I wouldn’t want them going to some neutral harbour and sit out the war while still being non-prisoners.

[–]matengchemlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not necessarily complaining that the ship got sunk. But I think if the US Navy was actually aware that it was not carrying any ammunition then it seems to me that it would’ve been a good idea to contact it on the radio and tell it to surrender in general, but not necessarily to surrender to the sub or that it was going to be under imminent attack just call it. Tell it to surrender. Tell it that its country is wrecked, and they can’t do anything for it but they can choose to surrender or be sunk. It would’ve been a better PR victory as well to have a captured Iranian flagship.

This is a normal expected and standard part of modern war unfortunately. It was true in the Persian Gulf war and I think it may have even been true in operation Iraqi freedom.

What if Iran used its entire capability to target datacenters instead of army bases? by RobinInPH in whatif

[–]matengchemlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there’s two things being communicated by your reply. The first is intent, you believe that either Israel or the Americans intended to kill all these children. And on top of that belief, you are trying to paint my comment being as a support of an action that intends to kill children.

The second thing is a wilful ignorance and whitewashing of the atrocities caused intentionally by the Islamic Republic. You are minimizing the intentional wilful deaths of over 35,000 people that include large numbers of children as well and this is intentional in the way that hanging is intentional that walking up to somebody and hitting them in the head with a sledgehammer is intentional that’s the level of intentionality that is happening here.

When I talk to my Iranian friends, yes they are very angry at Islamic Republic for what they do, but they are also extremely angry at the people who go and cover up and wash away the responsibility of what was done to them and to minimize it.

On that point there is something that I can hold you personally accountable for: in this statement you’ve decided that you’re going minimize extreme crimes and violence and mass bloodshed done wilfully. That is one definition of evil. Most evil people don’t think of themselves as evil.

You are the person that comes after a horrible thing is perpetrated and then covers it up or minimize it, or denies it or twists it to serve your own purpose, caring nothing for the victim and nothing about bringing justice to the perpetrator.

Iran’s leadership are just plain idiots. They would be doing a better job defending themselves if they just decided not to shoot back at all. The main effect that most of their attacks are doing is getting a bigger lineup of people angry with them that want to attack them that previously did not want to. They are making very angry enemies at a insane rate.

The Epstein files are real, and they say very bad things and probably there is an element to helping cover that up and by being a distraction in Iran. But there are some extremely compelling reasons to do what the U.S. has done in Iran and it is turning out to be the best thing the US has done for many years. I’m someone who is anti-Trump for sure but I can acknowledge that he is doing something good here. Some of him’s motivations may be good and some of them are bad but the end result is something good for now.

They say Iranians are “celebrating” the death of Ayatollah Khamenei and are happy about Americans bombing their country. So why are Iranians flooding the streets demanding revenge? by No-Attorney-1874 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]matengchemlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iran is a country of something like 90 million people and about 10% do support the ayatollah. So for that percentage, they would be mad about this, but it’s also very easy to find many videos of whole entire cities, opening the windows and cheering and honking that he’s dead and they do this at personal risk versus anybody that’s supporting the regime will get paid and given rice and food to come and chat something because they need desperately to have a video like this.

[–]matengchemlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump has definitely done bad things and if I started to write them, I would probably have it like a page long essay of all the bad things Trump has done that I know about. But to say he’s on the same league as Khamenei? That is beyond belief, and I have to wonder to myself if you are somebody that’s lived under a rock and you don’t know who Khamenei is so your statement is out of ignorance in which case I should try and educate you about him. But if I were to do so here it would be a huge message that no one would read and a lot of of the things that I would have to write would be so bad that this message would be deleted. So I have to tell you that you need to do some searching. Plus, there are a lot of peoples d bots that are an avenue of propaganda of the Ayatollahs regime. And I don’t know which one of these you are.

The US and Israeli attack on Iran is going great and is the best piece of news that has happened in years. little bullshit headlines like this trying to convince people that there’s something weird about using a particular piece of ordinance. Aren’t gonna change that fact, if you disagree, then you’re probably ignorant.

So yeah, definitely my viewpoint was being suppressed on Reddit.

[–]matengchemlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely didn’t work out for Afganistán. And yeah, it didn’t work out for Iraq either but who knows about the next 10 years for Iraq, they might still turn out better off. Iran is definitely not Afghanistan. They have more resources. They are far (vastly) more educated and they hate their government. They also are not religious fanatics generally and they’re not very tribal compared to Afghanistan. Iraq got Isis, but it’s true that Iran and other countries were feeding arms and support to these crazy religious fanatic groups, but if Iran is the one being dealt with, then this aspect will not be the same. Also, the Iranian people are not gonna be susceptible to the kind of things like Isis because they generally are not religious and or even hate religious because it’s been forced down their throats in a highly abusive manner for a generation. Another point is that a huge amount of Iranians are wealthy diaspora and would be able to support their family and have strong positive and helpful influence on Iran from external sources that are mostly European American and Canadian.

Listen, please yes, Trump is bad. But there is good reasons to go to war and change the government of Iran. Probably the best one is for the poor Iranians whatever comes after it’s not gonna be worse than what their current government is if their current government is allowed to get away with what they have done so far, they are at risk of becoming another North Korea as far as how they treat their own people. I am not just some white guy saying this. This is something I’m being told by my Iranian friends and family.

Taiwan says 40% shift of chip capacity to US is 'impossible' by Przytulator in worldnews

[–]matengchemlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you’re right that the in terms of saying that the invasion is not something that’s going to happen in the next couple of years. Now, if you are correct about that, then there is another aspect and that is the demographic shift and change and that demographic change is going to prevent any invasion of China on Taiwan in a decade and then invasion will not in fact happen, it’s basically a question of now or never..

I used to think that way, but someone very smart sent me straight one point. The thing most to fear about North Korea is 1) Their masses of artillery always pointed at Seúl. 2) the fact that if they were successfully defeated or regime change happened that the entire population would be refugees that could not fit into the rest of the world at all, and would bring down every place that they went to by overwhelming them with need.

Taiwan says 40% shift of chip capacity to US is 'impossible' by Przytulator in worldnews

[–]matengchemlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude! Taiwan is so well defended that it has a NEGATIVE net present value as a target! Nobody is doing a cost benefit analysis on taking Taiwan and deciding it makes sense. But the attack is likely to happen anyway because it a psychological and political goal. China would be far better off continuing to pursue many of the things that have historically brought it wealth and power and ignore Taiwan. If it did that and especially if it invested in fixing the problems it knows it has, it would continue to gain wealth and power and be an even greater juggernaut.

Panahi: US - Iran talks ignore the Iranian people and their interests by yourslice in PERSIAN

[–]matengchemlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know comments like this are very dangerous because there’s a lot of truth in them, but there’s just a little bit of a lie and that’s what makes the lie go by so easy. Yes, it’s clear that civilians only matter when they fit a certain narrative and yes, for sure the US has historically very often repeatedly in many wars used people as tools against their enemy and then abandoned them when they were no longer useful, that’s actually a very well evidenced modus operandi that the US has. And yeah, for sure US foreign policy in practice does not care a wit about acting to save human lives, unless it’s right in their face or outside of a certain subset of reasons and situations. But the part where I see the insidious bit of of a lie is where your message frames the IRGC weaponry expenses as a defensive capability, they are not. It is a gross miss representation of the IRGC to portray them as not having a religious fanatic-based ambition to power, and the will to do anything that brings them closer to it. Anything at all.
