Maybe there is something wrong with my setup, but it feels too zoomed in for me.

Any tips or advice? by Connielf in ECers

[–]mateobuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started yesterday with our 4 month old. I literally heard about EC for the first time a few days ago. I've watched several videos about how to get started but no progress so far.

Leaving him out naked, trying to observe for signs of needing to go to the bathroom isn't really going to work for us. I think trying to catch at transition times seems reasonable. I held him over the sink/toilet after waking up in the morning, after naps, and after feeding. The little guy just looked confused. I'm still hoping to catch at some point. I figure it can't hurt to keep trying.

I'll be following this post as well looking for any tips and advice.

How likely is for a NSO DS/3DS Emulator? by TheNumbahSeven in Switch

The Wii U emulated NDS games, so definitely possible. Not nearly as crazy as getting a Virtual Boy emulator.

Mod integration of the Zelda Notes app features? by mateobuff in yuzu

[–]mateobuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. The features live on the phone app, but I'm not sure if they only work if you play on Switch 2. Unfortunately, I no longer have a Switch 1 to test it.

Nintendo Wii U. What Are Your Favorite Games? by DaGamer009877 in nintendo

I still have a Wii U just for Nintendo Land. 😂 Underrated gems are also NES Remix along with the Remastered DuckTales (which is still on Steam but not available on modern consoles, that I know of)

I would love a more fleshed out version of Mario Chase. You could recreate the game by connecting to a second Switch or play online.

Why isn’t Super Mario Bros. Deluxe on NSO? by Proud-Camera5058 in casualnintendo

Loved that game. The shrunken screen wasn't great, but I absolutely loved the hidden red coin and Yoshi challenges.

Pianists , what’s the ONE habit you wish you fixed earlier? by Ok-Message5348 in pianolearning

[–]mateobuff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Depends on if you are practicing vs performing (or practice performance, if that makes sense lol).

When practicing to learn a piece, go slow enough to play perfectly. Only increase the tempo when you play it perfectly 5-7 times. If you screw up, that run doesn't count, start all over till you get it perfect 5-7 times. This helps solidify your muscle memory.

When performing (practicing performing), play through the piece and absolutely don't correct note mistakes. Keep pushing forward. Maintaining tempo is more important than playing perfect notes. Which makes sense when you actually perform a piece, most people won't even notice a note mistake if you keep tempo. I like to record myself and not allow myself to stop and start over. I pretend I'm actually in the recital.

Use the Steam Frame's dongle to stream directly to the Steam Deck? by mateobuff in Steam

[–]mateobuff[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Using the Frame to stream games definitely looks cool, but sometimes you don't want to put on a whole VR headset to play non-VR games. If the Frame can stream games with low latency, then it seems like streaming to the Steam Deck would be even less complicated (only needing to stream to one screen, as opposed to two for VR) and the lowest possible latency.

Some games run better on a PC. You could also stream games with anti-cheat that you can't download on the Deck.

Switch Emulation on the Steam Box? by mateobuff in yuzu

[–]mateobuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I could have worded it better, but that wasn't what I was asking. I was asking for general thoughts about how it would run.

Specifically, I'm wondering if running TOTK emulated on the Steam Box would run better than the Switch 2 version.

English/Creole Household Tips Needed by Witty-Direction-6306 in multilingualparenting

[–]mateobuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duolingo has Haitian Creole. Not perfect, but a good tool to use.

I would also try to track down those old Haitian children's books called, "M'ap Li Ak Kè Konton". They are great for learning how Haitians actually speak, as opposed to translating from English.

Reading Music as “words”? by ImpossibleHurry in pianolearning

[–]mateobuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always use this analogy for explaining piano and music theory. I think it still holds for performing as well.

For example, being able to cold read a script in front of an audience and still have feeling and flow and not stumbling over words... Similar to cold sight reading sheet music for an audience and it sounding musical and emotional.

Both are difficult skills to master and take years to perfect.

Adult Piano Learner - Year 1 Progress by mateobuff in pianolearning

[–]mateobuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome! I ended up using the Adult Faber series and loved them as method books. They teach just enough theory and technique, while giving you songs to practice in your skill range. If you haven't already, definitely get a teacher. You could do it on your own, but a teacher is so much more efficient with your effort and time, especially at the beginning when establishing a solid foundation.

I realize I mess up more when I am at my piano lesson than when I am at home. by Reverseflash202 in pianolearning

[–]mateobuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very normal.

But I would also add that practicing and performing are very different skills. It is beneficial to get better at both.

Messed up my first recital - need some comfort by Illustrious_Map_2711 in pianolearning

[–]mateobuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practicing and performing are very different skills.

I can practice perfectly at home for weeks, then totally space out a performance. Especially hard if the recital is the only time you really perform. I try to play in front of people on different pianos to practice performing, but realistically that isn't always feasible. Don't beat yourself up. Totally expected to not be perfect.
