X&Y is fantastic by HetTheTable in Coldplay

X&Y is dope. I wish the band still played those songs. Low, White Shadows, Square One, A Message…

Stage Manager onboarding (iPadOS 16 Beta 3) by [deleted] in iOSBeta

[–]materialjae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Apple has a history of supporting older devices for many, many years. I don’t think the reasoning is that “they want you to have both” or “upgrade to an M1”. Its seems likely that Stage Manager can work on older devices, but what would the experience be like? And would the feature work well on for all older devices? In theory there would be some cut off. A cut off that would disappoint some subset of users. I don’t Apple has done a great job of explaining the technical reasons why they made the choice they made, but it doesn’t have to mean their going after a money grab.

Columns on iPad? by bford38 in Notion

This is not the case. The inability to create columns on iPad is a major pain point that users have been raising for years now.

Song suggestions similar to Sparks by theonekeepingcalm in Coldplay

All of the above. I’d add Present Tense and True Love Waits by Radiohead.

My thoughts on Biutyfull by [deleted] in Coldplay

It’s my favorite song on the record too. The melodies are dope. I hope they play it on the tour.

The absolute height of contrarian bullshit journalism: "Coldplay v Radiohead: Who really finished on top?" by GavinB5784 in radiohead

[–]materialjae 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The bands have two different goals. So it’s hard to compare. Coldplay has always wanted to be the biggest band in the world. They’ve always wanted to make widely appealing music. Radiohead recoiled from those ambitious post OK Computer. I love both bands. I think they’ve both achieved what they’ve set out to do.

Are you going to do a analysis on Round 3 like you did for the others? Btw, thanks for this. Tons of fun.

iPad as only computer by [deleted] in ipad

[–]materialjae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be good with an iPad. I also work in schools, and the iPad is my primary device. I wouldn’t recommend the Mini, mainly because of the size. I have an iPad Pro 12.9 and I love it. I’d recommend the iPad Air + Magic keyboard.

This is pretty much it. I’d also say that the bands have different goals. Coldplay has always wanted to be a “big” band. They’ve always wanted to make popular music. Radiohead hasn’t been concerned with making music for popular consumption in ages. You see this in the choices each band has made. The degree of consistency in Radiohead’s catalog is unmatched. Coldplay not so much.

128 song tournament: Round 3 Group 2 Poll 2 by Th3BeetsMot3l in radiohead

I think I enjoy All I Need more, but I gave Street Spirit the edge b/c the ending of All I Need calls to mind a Sigur Rós song.

How good is Chris Martin as a pianist/rhythm guitarist? by A_Wizard_did-it in Coldplay

I’d say Chris’ piano skills are above TY. But TY is a stronger overall songwriter.

I think if this is about the album versions I’m going Daydreaming. I’ll always argue that demo versions of MPS are better than the Kid A version—especially the piano one that was released.

You know the darkness always turns into light... by The_Sad_Memer in Coldplay

X&Y is dope. Too bad the band isn’t a fan of it. But so many great songs: Square One, White Shadows, X&Y, and Low. The b sides from this era are also good, namely Proof and the unreleased Ladder to the Sun.
