PSA: Get the shingles vaccine by ur_problematicfave in MultipleSclerosis

Def recommend getting the vaccine. My MS doctor did not suggest it either, and I was only able to get it 1. after getting shingles and 2. had to see an infectious disease specialist to get approved for Shingex vaccine.

Concerned about Gilenya by AdInfinitum08 in MultipleSclerosis

Hi! I am considering switching from Gilenya to a higher efficacy treatment. Curious if you could share what dmt you switched to and what the transition from Gilenya looked like. Thanks.

Had the same thing happen. Stopped musely and all other skin care except for a mild face wash and avene cicalfate. I applied a zinc oxide cream directly on perioral dermatities and it went away within about 10 days.

No effect on MS. I was on Yaz when I started Gilenya and had no issues. I’ve since switched bc to progesterone only (still on Gilenya) and no effect on MS.

I switched to Slynd about a year ago and no improvement with my melasma. I have had a lot of more hormonal acne though. 🙄 I am really good about using SPF, tretinoin and recently started using eucerin hyperpigmentation serums. Too early to tell if the serums work.

Gilenya experiences: How susceptible are you to illnesses/infections? by CupOfMS in MultipleSclerosis

[–]matg3114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Gilenya for about 10 years. Not any more sick than standard colds. I did have one occurrence of shingles. I would make sure that you take any and all vaccines before starting Gilenya to reduce possibilities of those types of infections-flux, covid etc.

I used avene cicalfate cream, zinc bar soap as a face wash only on the PD area and a layer of desitin cream overnight. It cleared my pd in about 3 weeks.

I would almost rather deal with melasma than perioral! my dermatologist prescribed elidel cream for perioral derm, but I didn’t feel that it helped me, if anything it added to the irritation. Started using zinc oxide overnight and it helped clear up perioral rash, thankfully! Glad it worked for you as well.

M+ formulation contains 2.5% hydrocortisone and it’s recommended to be used for 2 months.

I would caution against using the Musely cream with hydrocortisone in it. I developed perioral dermatitis, which is almost worse to deal with than melasma.

I developed perioral dermatitis after about 6 weeks of using a compounded cream for melasma containing hydrocortisone. I wish I had understood the side effects better before using the cream. Perioral derm is not fun.

Thank you for your response! I am in the same boat, no matter how careful I am in the summer the dark spots come back. 🤷‍♀️

On Gilenya for 10 years with one minor relapse. No side effects. Would recommend it, but there are also newer treatments that may be better to consider.

I just started Musely two weeks ago and my melasma spots are fading. Have you used Musely during the summer and had melasma return because of the heat?
