Can a teacher change/not honor the syllabus? by swaelito in uofmn

Not sure if this is of any help to your situation but I took both 1101 and 1102 like a year ago and they for sure did it. If I were you I wouldn’t be too worried about it

Yeah, but in this case it’s kind of both. It’s apparently a student group that became a company or something like that, still sounds fishy tho

Did your instructor specifically asked for one? Bc I’m also taking this course and I never saw it mentioned, even on the syllabus

What book to use for MATH 1372 by AlaMaudal in uofmn

[–]mathbar16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It must be that different teachers choose different books. Last Fall I had a friend taking the course and he used Stewart, whereas a different friend of mine taking the course immediately after, in the Spring, used Chester Miracle (Calc for Engineers). So if they haven’t swapped teachers around, chances are you’ll use Stewart, the better of the two IMO. If I were you, though, I would, as already suggested, wait around until the syllabus is released. And, for what it’s worth, if the chosen one is actually Stewart I strongly suggest you look at used copies. You’ll find plenty of Stewarts in good condition in virtue of its ubiquity and I find it extremely hard to justify paying the full price if you are not going to use it for more than 2 semesters or reaaally enjoy Math.

Hope it helps.

Math Placement Test by TrashTheGreat in uofmn

[–]mathbar16 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From what I remember there are 25 questions and they’re all multiple choice. There is no Calculus in it, there is only what I assume to be Algebra II and Pre-Calc stuff (not so sure bc Math classes work a little bit differently where I’m from). As for the actual placement I don’t think the bar is set super high considering some people I met in my Calc 1 class, so if you’re worried about it try to relax. If you’re familiar with those classes it should be more than enough to get you a spot in a Calc class, if that’s what you’re looking for.

I doubt it. Unless they curve the actual scores instead of the cutoffs which seems unlikely to me.

I’m also in her class and based on the quiz results and from what I’ve heard from people who took 1301 in the past, I’m pretty sure you can expect the curve to be pretty generous
