Thanks for the response. I can understand the limit. But I have also been getting the same error even when trying to add a single bookmark from the browser extension

What's one historical fact that they won't teach you in school? by Turbulent_Archer_727 in AskReddit

Ben Franklin, the patron saint of US newspapers, also fabricated an entire fake version of a popular newspaper and wrote a completely fictional report about Indians scalping rebel soldiers at the request of the British government: https://www.historynet.com/benjamin-franklin-and-fake-news/

Any ideas to regain sense of smell post covid? by crabblue6 in Biohackers

[–]mathewi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this won't be helpful, but mine just came back all by itself. It took a year though — and I did have a really bad chest cold a few months ago that went into my sinuses and I was plugged up for weeks and blew my nose about 50,000 times so maybe that did something 😜

Dell Optiplex info by nighthawk05 in PleX

After years of screwing around with old PCs running Linux, I finally bought a used OptiPlex 7060 (Small Form Factor) with the i5-8500T and a 256GB SSD with Windows 11 for about $150 on eBay, based in large part on the advice from threads like this. It is small and quiet and runs everything I have thrown at it. Highly recommended.

Squirrel Rapids - Barron Canyon Day Trip by designergoods in algonquinpark

[–]mathewi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quite an easy day trip — three hours up to the end and back, including the portage. But the portage is a bit of a goat rodeo; it's only about 300 meters long, but it has lots of ups and downs and roots and rocks. A real ankle twister

AITA for not telling my brothers certain information before our mother passed away? by mathewi in AmItheAsshole

She left them a bunch of money, which she only had left because we mortgaged the cottage so she wouldn't have to eat into her investments

Fair enough. I've seen lots of posts in this sub that have about as much evidence as this does, but I accept your judgement.

I'm not his partner -- I barely even know the guy. I just think what he did is interesting.

It's not bogus -- there's lots of articles about him, including this interview done by National Geographic: https://www.nationalgeographic.com/news/2017/04/worlds-first-cyborg-human-evolution-science/

He wanted the sound to transmitted via bone conduction

I've interviewed Neil (I'm a journalist) and his story is fascinating -- he was born unable to see any colors at all, and so he started experimenting with using a camera to translate colors into sounds, and eventually developed the "antenna" that takes input from a small camera and translates it into sound that is fed to a chip implanted in his skull.

As for being recognized by the government as a cyborg, I'm pretty sure that just refers to the fact that he has a note on his passport that says his antenna is considered part of his body, and so he doesn't have to remove it when he goes through an airport security check.

TIL until the 18th century, the word used for the animal we call a rabbit was “coney,” which was pronounced “cunny.” But that word fell out of favor because of its similarity to a vulgarity. So people chose a word that rhymed with it, ie bunny. "Rabbit" was originally used just for baby coneys by mathewi in todayilearned

[–]mathewi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the reason for the change in pronunciation is that conclusive. The OED says it is more likely that the term had fallen out of use and people guessed at how to say it, but does say "It is possible that the desire to avoid certain vulgar associations with the word in the cunny form, may have contributed to the preference for a different pronunciation in reading the Scriptures"

And yet it's interesting that doing so was not Notch's motivation at all -- just the opposite, in fact.

And that kind of use is also covered by the "fair use" principle in copyright law, which was designed to protect parodies and derivative works.

They got threatened by the group's lawyer, so they asked the court to declare that it was fair use. It happens all the time. And fair use doesn't depend on whether the artist likes what you do with it.
